you can just tell,he's a nobody with a blog. All he did was post a video about the skins on his blog, big whoop. On the other hand, the ESPN story about us winning the computer simulated SB against the boys was good, although im sure it will get no play. That 91 team was great.I remember being at a sportsbar with a bunch of skins fans{in Houston}when we whipped Atlanta 56-14 or whatever the score was,it was great. That SB we won that yr wasnt even close, final score was not an indicator of how bad we whooped them.Watching that show on that bloggers site reminded me of that.I had remembered that they called back Monk's td but what i didnt remember is we botched the fg and came away with no points, plus we had another redzone mistake before we got our first points. The score could have been much worse against the Bills |
Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
IMHO......this can not be determind. The times changed and the game changed.Packers in th 60's,Steelers in the 70's Forty Niners in the 80's ,Cowboys and Rams in the 90's and the Pats in the 2000's ...... and then you have 85 Bears ,91 Skins,86 Giants and almost all of Payton's Colts teams....arguments can be made for all,I know some Cleveland Brown Fans that will fight with you and tell you to look at the Browns of the early 60's.

Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
The 18-1 Patriots were the best team I've ever seen

Like I said before, if the Redskins had a consistent QB after Theismann got hurt like the Giants, 49ers, Cowboys, etc. Can you imagine what this team would have done if the would have had a QB like Simms, Montana, young or Aikman during the 80's. It would not have been close. Making it even more impressive winning with two mediocre QB's after Joey T. |

We'd be hard pressed to present any argument against the Cleveland Browns. Including the four years they were in the AAFC 1946 to 1950 they went twenty seven years, 1946 to 1973 with only one losing season, 1956. |

Don't forget Bobby Mitchell. The ESPN computer game was based on teams from the 70's, 80's and 90's. No argument that probably Cleveland and GB were the teams in the 40's, 50's and 60's. |

I didn't forget about Bobby. I did edit Jim Brown because I typed in the wrong year. 1965 as opposed to 1956. A lot of years for me to have to keep up with anymore. |
Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
I agree with Giantone, there is no such thing as best team ever. There a ton of opinions and that is all.
I will say one thing, there are less dynasty type super teams in the 2000's (2000-today) then there were in the 70's, 80's and 90's. In the 70's-90's you had 8 to 10 excellent teams that played well at all phases and were not one dimensional like alot of todays top teams In the 70's 80's and 90's you had the Steelers, Redskins, Dallas, 49ers, Chicago, Giants, Raiders, Eagles were capable of winning the super bowl in any year and the games between them were physical wars. Today's flag football pass happy football with rules to protect Qb's and give free release to receivers is a joke. The top teams of today are so one-dimensional pass happy like the Peyton Manning's Colts or Brady's Patriots they would have been beat by the better Steel Curtain defense,, 85 Bears defense, Cowboys Doomsday type top defenses of yesterday. This is one area where free agency hurt the top level play of the NFL. Today there are a lot of mediocre teams that have to re-build all the time. The Patriots and Colts are the few teams that have been somewhat able to keep strong teams and they really are not that great most of the time. |
The 18-1 Patriots were the best team I've ever seen
No, the Giants were better because they thoroughly pounded Brady and won that Super Bowl by being the more physical team.

If they played 10 times I'm convinced the pats would have won at least the majority. The giants were a greatly underrated team that year, but he pats were still better...they just lost at the wrong time. I really don't believe in the "you are what your record says you are" line in this situation. |

When it really mattered, the Giants physically dominated the line of scrimmage, and knocked Brady down more times in one game than he had been hit that entire season. The Giants D-line was superior to the Pats O-line, no matter how many times they played.

You obviously weren't watching in '91. They were mindblowing. |
Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
91 skins were a piece of art
|
Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
In my opinion, 83 team was just as good, if not better
|
Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
The 91 team was great, but I think the 83 team was better. They just didn't show up against the Raiders.
|
Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
But...but...I thought ESPN hated the Skins and had a bias against them? [/sarcasm]
|
Re: 1991 Redskins best team ever (finally recognized)
Honestly that was 19 yrs ago and who really cares what people think. I'm ready for a winning team in 2011 to talk about. I've done enough of going back into the past.

1983 is my choice, but it's real close.

The Steelers, meanwhile, won two super bowls and reached the AFC Championship game four times. |
