Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
This is got to be one of the biggest MMA fights of this year, maybe even more so than the Lesnar vs Shane Carwin fight, only because as of a few days ago, the fight has turned to racial insults, from Brock's side.
Brock has insulted his mexican heritage, and says after the fight he will eat a burrito and drink a corona, and also says he will beat his "mexican ass". In response, the normally polite and reserved velasquez has promised him that Brock has "f***ed with the wrong Mexican". I say Velazquez beats him. Thoughts?? |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
As long as Brock can take him down, he'll win. If they stay standing, Brock is in trouble.
|
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
I agree with Quake. If Lesnar can take Velasquez to the mat and keep him there, he's going to be tough to beat. If Lesnar tries keep the fight up on their feet, he's gonna get knocked the f' out.

Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Alot of people are understating Cain's wrestling ability. Even Brock's trainer, who is also an MMA fighter and former collegiate wrestling, said that he has wrestled velasquez before and that he is very formidible. He said if Brock doesn't take him seriously, he could be in trouble...

I know Cain is a great wrestler but, he isnt as big as Brock is and Shane Carwin couldn't get up when Brock took him down and Carwin is every bit the wrestler Cain is. |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Anything could happen but Lesnat has the edge. His size and athleticism is just so hard to over come. But if Cain can keep it standing up then he has s good chance to catch Brock. I suspect we might see a good facsimile of the Carwin fight where Cain pounds on him a little bit until Lesnar fin s a spot and brings down the hammer or a submission.

Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Carwin had no cardio. He was totally gassed after round 1. Cain Velasquez has the stamina to swing away for 3 rounds, no problem.

Ok 3 rounds no problem, so what happens in round 4 and round 5. Also, cardio goes away when a 265lb man-beast is on top of you punching you in the face. Just ask Frank Mir. |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
I think Brock's just too darn big for anyone in the division right now. Dos Santos may be his only legitimate challenge, imo.
GSP is going to punk Koschek in December, likely embarrassing him in front of thousands of French Canadians... if all goes according to plan, Fitch (rematch) and Shields are waiting in the wings. I can't wait for Sonnen-Silva II. |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Gonna be hard if Sonnen cant take steroids this time.

[/quote] Shane Carwin is still a legitimate threat, and after he gets past Roy Nelson in January (he should), he will be in line to take on the number 1 contender, so he could challenge for the title again by next spring/summer. If Carwin can get past his stamina problem, he beats Brock every time... |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
No doubt the HW division has some very good talent in it right now. Velasquez and Cain are legit as well as Dos Santos. Certainly the best the UFC has had in a very long time. The problem is that Lesnar is such a freak. A guy with his wrestling skills and his decent stand up game is going to be a contender no matter what. Add in his demonstrated toughness and his shear size and he is clearly a favorite against anybody in the world. In MMA everyone always has a chance so it is always hard to predict but if you play the odds Cain wins this fight more often than he loses it.

Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
I'm not a big guy, 5'10, 195, but i know how i'd fight Lesnar if I was a HW. Brock doesnt like standup, he turns into a turtle whenever anyone starts landing on him. He's tough for sure, but his expert area is wrestling, and taking a fighter to the ground.
I'd work behind a stiff jab to keep him honest, mixing in power shots when he comes forward. if he tries to bullrush to take me down, i'd try to sidestep him, or retreat, and setup again. being a kempo guy, i'd throw a high kick or 2 to confuse him. Now keep in mind if he takes me to the ground, it is probably over, unless i can get him in an arm triangle choke from the full guard, because he is susceptible to submissions. If somehow I knocked brock down, like Carwin, i would swing for the fences until he either gets knocked out, or there is a stoppage. I have great cardio being a boxer, and i believe i could throw heavy shots on him for quite a while... This is just the model of how someone could win, by not fighting Brock's kind of fight. |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Yeah but Cain stop Brock's explosive takedowns. I dont think so.

Wrestlers are actually taking over UFC right now. Silva was getting dominated by Sonnen until a 5th round comeback. Brock's able to use his world class wrestling to get past power punchers (Carwin) and jiu-jitsu guys (Mir). GSP's dominance is in large part due to his training with the Canadian wrestling team- he gets on top of the opponent and then just gnp's all day. And wrestling is probably the reason why Maynard has a decent shot at taking away the lightweight belt from the fast fists of Frankie Edgar. I just think that wrestlers have figured out a way to beat fighters of all different styles. |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
I didn't get to see the fight but it sounds like Cain brought the heat. Congrats to him. Gotta love MMA where everyone loses at some point. Brock will get back. Like I said earlier I think in a very short amount of time the UFC's heavyweight division has become quite good. Just 3 years ago it was complete crap. Now it has multiple top-quality guys and is really interesting. So who does Cain get first? I'd bet Brock gets a second tier guy next and assuming he wins that then the loser of whoever loses the Cain-xxx fight or maybe the winner of a Carwin-xxx fight. Schaub will maybe get a shot at someone decent soon? Putting Gonzaga down moves him into the discussion for a top opponent.
I guess Dos Santos is next in line for Cain. |

Lesnar's next fight is rumored to be the rubber match with Frank Mir, unless Brock leaves UFC to go back to the WWE, which is the rumor as of this morning. UPDATE: The Undertaker was on hand for the PPV last night, and made allusion to Wrestlemania by "confronting" Brock on camera. As of my update, The WWE has offered Lesnar a very lucrative deal to come back to wrestling and face the Undertaker at wrestlemania 30. |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
isnt the undertaker 4000 years old?
|
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Wow, just caught the fight. Brock got knocked around silly... He looked like a rag doll stumbling around the ring. I have to give it up to Velasquez- he just handled Brock.
Dos Santos is definitely his biggest threat. |

Back in the day there was no weight classes and little shits kicked ass. They would just avoid the big punches until the big guy got tired then they would beat the crap out of them. Not sure if that would work in todays world. |
Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Yeah back in the day UFC was totally different. Tank Abbott was a monster. He had no formal training, but kicked everyone's ass. I still remember when Abbott KTFO of John Matua, giving him a seizure and going into a "fighter's crucifix" from massive head trauma. Matua never fought again, true story...

Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
I remember Royce Gracie having to just keep working his BJJ on huge dudes until they submitted... crazy times, back then.

Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
yeah ive seen gracie break his own arm/shoulder to get out of an arm bar. vicious

Re: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez predictions??
Not to take the focus away from this thread but I honestly feel like the only fight that for me is really worth watching will be Paccy vs. Mayweather. Come on guys, stop the bitch-fest and just agree to terms. I can watch MMA/UFC and all that but Manny v. Mayweather is all I really want to see.
