This Has Got To Burn You Up!!!!

Gibbs Should Reretire by Dave Goldberg

Some people just don't get it!

NY_Skinsfan 11-21-2004 02:12 PM

That is just so stupid I won't even comment.

MTK 11-21-2004 02:24 PM

LOL

whatever

Actually it's such an idiotic article it doesn't even tick me off, just makes me laugh

RedskinRat 11-21-2004 02:29 PM

So he's Shula's best friend, so what? Meaningless article that will be made all the more meaningless when Coach Gibbs gets this turned around.

LongTimeSkinsFan 11-21-2004 02:29 PM

Dave Goldberg = 'tard :tongue

SmootSmack 11-21-2004 02:32 PM

Goldberg should retire now before he writes any more bad articles and tarnishes whatever reputation he has

Gmanc711 11-21-2004 02:48 PM

Whatever. Its such a stupid article. I'm not being narrowminded either ( none of us are ) its just rediculous to tell a coach to retire after 9 games. I dont care how succesful he has been in the past, its rediculous. Its not like he inhareted the Super Bowl Champions, I mean, yes , we have some of hte best talent in the league, but gimme a break.... unreal.

Daseal 11-21-2004 02:52 PM

I'm not saying it's true, but the rest of the world doesn't give Gibbs a free pass.

redrock-skins 11-21-2004 03:29 PM

He'll be writing next year or so what a great move it was by Gibbs, when we're winning. Man, aren't the sportswriters busy with T.O.'s skit, brawls, and BCS? He must have been given a "side" assignment or something.

Bozzy 11-21-2004 03:43 PM

Yeah, let's have them retire with a pitiful team as their last...that won't tarnish their record.

/sarcasm

monk81 11-21-2004 03:47 PM

utter stupidity......Joe just got to Redskin Park......he doesn't have the players yet to make the offense work, he needs another draft and you lost your KEY offensive linemen for the season.....give me a break!!! It's going to take more than 9 games to get the Redskins back to a playoff caliber team.......give Gibbs a chance, SHEESH!

Daseal 11-21-2004 03:52 PM

I think it's an absolute myth to say "Gibbs doesn't have the personal he needs"

He got the TE he wanted, he got the RB he wanted, and he got the QB he wanted. Two of three ain't bad. Anyhow, our WRs are good and line is steadily improving considering we have a 42 Or 41 year old playing where Jansen should be. Where are you going to upgrade the offense, tell me that.

WE NEED TO GET YOUNG TALENT THROUGH THE DRAFT........
I don't think the offensive line has played that well.......Samuels has been inconsistent at times, and Thomas as struggled, center has been iffy. Especially with Ramsey in the pocket you have to give him time to throw the ball. One TE does not a team make. Cole has played hurt, I give him KUDOS for just not sitting on the bench. Gardner has been disappointing isn't that why we are seeing McCants more. Poor play at QB hasn't helped, maybe Joe didn't put Ramsey in because he realizes an immobile QB won't work with this offensive line. ... We got a running back that needs to learn to wait for his blocks...Then there are all those mistakes-turnovers, fumbles, dropped passes, and Joe isn't on the field making those ERRORS so you can't blame it all on Joe. We need to draft an offensive linemen--get Jansen back, and see if we can upgrade a WR, maybe get some defensive linemen help. Special teams needs work also......................

skinsguy 11-21-2004 04:05 PM

So Daseal what are you saying? Are you saying the article has some validity?

SmootSmack 11-21-2004 04:55 PM

So basically Goldberg is saying that coaching losing teams is tarnishing Parcells and Gibbs' reputations so they should just quit

As if bailing on these teams would be good for their reputations? I don't get it

skinsguy 11-21-2004 05:13 PM

I think the point of the article was to ignite as much reaction as possible...knowing that he has no true facts to back up his claim.

MTK 11-21-2004 06:14 PM

I don't even agree that Parcells should retire.

Any coach needs 2-3 seasons to get their players in place and establish their systems. 9 games and this guy has Gibbs figured out? Please.

MTK 11-21-2004 06:27 PM

offensive line

Daseal 11-21-2004 07:02 PM

Matty, thus far Gibbs has been PATHETIC. I know everyone's scared of him, but I follow the what have you done for me lately mentallity. If this were any other coach you'd be calling for his head.

MTK 11-21-2004 07:05 PM

After 9 games? Sorry no, I wouldn't be calling for his head.

I can't put 100% of the blame on Gibbs. The players haven't exactly been pulling their weight. The exeuction has been pretty poor all season. Drops, penalties, etc.

SmootSmack 11-21-2004 07:16 PM
Matty, thus far Gibbs has been PATHETIC. I know everyone's scared of him, but I follow the what have you done for me lately mentallity. If this were any other coach you'd be calling for his head.
And yet you still preach on about how Spurrier should have been given another shot

If I were Gibbs I'd be tempted to say:

"Look, this franchise has been underachieving, dissapointing, pathetic, you name it for over a decade now. And time and time again the mantra has been 'if we only had consistency' or 'if only Gibbs were still coach'. Well you know what, I'm back and if you want to be the fans of a winning franchise again why are you so quick to turn your back on the man who made the Redskins one of the respected franchises in sports? I've earned the right to struggle early on, and be selfish, and do what I think is right to get this franchise righted again."

MTK 11-21-2004 07:18 PM

great post SS

for some reason 'what have you done for me lately' doesn't apply to a coach who won 12 games in 2 seasons, LOL

Daseal 11-21-2004 07:19 PM

At least Spurrier put up some points on HIS side of the ball. Gibbs has one of the best defenses in the league at his back but can't get more than two field goals? It's not all on Gibbs, but I'd say 80% of it IS.

i agree man. like i hate to say it but i'm def not just gonna blindly follow someone just cos they won forever ago. this guy is just goin based on the facts. gibbs' o is doin NOTHING these days. sure he deserves some time and its a bit forward to be talking about retirement. but you cant deny the validity of doubt.

the only reason we're in any game is cos of D. penalties, stupid mistakes, thing gibbs was supposed to, at the very least, alleviate are now abound more than ever. this season is a disaster. sure it takes time and this is not fully JG's fault. it think now it goes to the owner. we just need to build up, which we'll be doing again soon.

i still hold with my original opinion. if i could have anything, i'd still wish for schotty to be here. that was our best chance to succeed and with such small windows of opportunity, you dont get many.

Daseal 11-21-2004 07:33 PM

Denny Green has the ARIZONA CARDINALS, yes you heard me, in position to possibly win the NFC west. Doubt it will happen, but talk about impressive!

MTK 11-21-2004 07:37 PM

Arizona is one game better than the Skins right now and got smoked today by the Panthers, I'm impressed.

VTSkins897 11-21-2004 07:39 PM

yeh it is impressive esp. since its ARZ.

Daseal 11-21-2004 07:41 PM

Exactly. Let's compare talent levels and it becomes impressive. They also have two decent teams in their division as opposed to our one.

Sheriff Gonna Getcha 11-21-2004 07:43 PM

Gibbs will get it and will take us back to the playoffs. BUT, I'm sick and tired of people giving him a free-pass. In my mind, he is as open to criticism as anyone. Our talent is fine. Our playcalling stinks. Gibbs will turn it around, I just want to know when. I haven't seen any improvements in our offense (which is supposed to be Gibbs' realm).

VTSkins897 11-21-2004 07:43 PM

and talent level shows why we are easily the worst O in the nfl...

MTK 11-21-2004 07:44 PM

Over the past 12 years we haven't been much better than Arizona.

I'm not giving him a free pass, but what gets tiring to me is always blaming him for the team struggling and giving the players free passes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the execution was downright horrible today. 12 penalties (especially in the redzone), drops, mental errors, etc.

Yes the coaches deserve some blame, but let's not forget it's the players that have to go out there and perform.

Gmanc711 11-21-2004 08:01 PM

Agreed Matty. The Coaches defintley deserve some of the blame, and so do the players.

MTK 11-21-2004 10:05 PM

Last year I said the same thing. I thought there were many times where the coaches were getting unfairly grilled when the players and their lack of execution was more to blame.

More often than not though, I thought last year boiled down to a coaching problem.

This year while I agree coaching has been to blame at times, I feel that the players have let us down quite a bit and we've also been killed by some things we can't always control, like injuries and bad officiating.

Sheriff Gonna Getcha 11-21-2004 10:16 PM

The injuries have hurt us a bit. Most of our injuries have affected our defense, which, thankfully, is still very good.

The penalties cost us a game (Dallas), but they're not a main reason for our woes.

The players (i.e. Brunell) have hurt us quite a bit. BUT, for me, it's difficult to separate the players from the coaches. Ultimately, the coaches share a lot of the blame for the players' mistakes.

What made Gibbs so fanatastic is that he was a people person and was able to maximize the team's talent. He hasn't been able to do that yet. Our talent should put us around a 6-4 record, but our record is 3-7.

So, the coaching staff deserves some of the blame for poor play.

skinsguy 11-21-2004 10:23 PM

Your right, the players have hurt us quite a bit! If the QBs (Brunell and yes RAMSEY as well) could have been more accurate and if the receivers could catch some passes...like the ones that happen to hit them between the numbers....

It comes down to the players making the plays....
