Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
I'm sure Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy are probably the media favorites to win the Heisman, but boy is Toby Gerhart (Stanford) one helluva player. I don't think I've seen a running back run like he did tonight since Charles White (USC) in a Rose Bowl game years ago.
Gerhart deserves the Heisman. |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Gerhart, Tebow, and McCoy all proved this Turkey Day weekend why they are the three favorites. They'll be the finalists. Too bad there isn't a Pac-10 championship game. That could hurt Gerhart. Tebow and McCoy both get to tee it up one more time before the bowl games begin.
GO GATORS!!! |

How can anyone not root for TCU?

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
For real...John Riggins Jr.

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart

some good games? try about 12 great games. i dont think he will win the heisman, but he should definitely be in the conversation. |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
It's too bad they lost because Clausen had another great game yesterday
|
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Apparently Gerhart has never fumbled in his 4 years in college. Never had below a 4.6avg this year, never had a long less than 11, and only in 1 game did he fail to reach the end zone.

if you think he is going to be a star in the league in the same catergory as Peterson, Johnson, Turner...... I dont think so, keep dreaming, if he was a Heisman Contender he be getting love for it right now, there is no John Riggins out there, and he is not coming to Washinton to save the day..... get over it, he is a college star at best......4th round pick |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
you act as if 4th round picks have never amounted to anything... Marion Barber and Brandon Jacobs were both 4th rounders, westbrook a 3rd rounder. I could probably find more but you get my point.

Might as well just cut the draft to 3 rounds and let teams sign the rest of those scrubs as UDFA's huh? |

As the nation's leader in rushing touchdowns, he is getting some of that love, including this thread. Whether or not he gets the Heisman or makes it in the pros, Gerhart is fun to watch. He plays the game the way it should be played. |

if that is all true that is pretty amazing i doubt he will win the heisman, i think it's a lock for mccoy, which would mean three heisman winning qbs in the draft |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Like I said before, this guy will be successful in the NFL because he has heart, smarts and is a tough SOB. This guy is relentless and will not quit, just ask all the teams he has run over and pounded their ass.
|
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
It takes three guys to tackle Gerhart. The first is thrown off, the second hangs on for dear life, and the last guy jumps on his back. Gerhart isn't a running back. Gerhart runs over people's backs, fronts too!

Just ask all the Pac-10 teams that got their asses handed to them. |

Oh but USC, they're a bunch of scrubs San Fran! I mean let's see Gerhart play a real team! |

I laugh when people are not convinced, I've seen this guy go against the best teams in the country and have great games against them all. Don't you know it's college? The one thing this guy has is HEART, if you've seen him play he leaves it all on the field. Reminds me of Riggo. |

Now I may be wrong here, but I thought the Heisman was given to the best college player of the year, not to the most promising NFL prospect...? |

since when does translating to the pros have anything to do with winning the heisman trophy? when did i ever say he was going to be a good nfl player? i have no idea, and frankly i dont care about that. bottom line is hes a top college player, thus he should be getting the hype he is. simple as that. |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Gerhart reminds me of Jerome Bettis...which may be hard for some people to grasp because they're not the same skin color

Does Gerhart like to bowl too? :) If he's anywhere near as good a pro as Bettis was, and I think he could be, I'd take him in a heartbeat. I think Colt McCoy has the best chance at the Heisman but Gerhart has had a good enough year to win it. I'd like to see Gerhart running the ball at the end of a game for us after wearing down the defense for 3 quarters. |

Riggins was The Diesel Bettis was The Bus so is it "Freight Train" Gerhart? |

i dont like mccoy for the heisman, mainly because he has dropped off a decent amount from last season. he is down 9 rushing touchdowns from last season and 5% completion, and his rating is down 20 points. he may win it, but only because this is a down year for the heisman in terms that there are no totally dominant players. |

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
This kid went to High School ( Norco, CA) a few miles from my house. His dad is the High School coach of Norco HS and his brother is a OL at ASU. I think he is a canidate but he will not win. I think CJ Spiller would get more voters because he is a return man also on special teams. He runs hard and has quick feet for a big back but not sure how he will translate in the NFL. He would be a nice 3rd pick but we do not have a 3rd rd pick so far. He would look good in Burgundy and Gold.
|
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Maybe his 40 time will not be impressive and we land him in the 3rd or 4th rd < I know we do not have a 3rd at the moment > , I don't think rb is a high priority , but I would like to find either a grinder or speed / quick Rb .

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Looking at the strength of schedule in the SEC i think it should go to Mark Ingram after the display against Florida the #1 rank defense in the nation. Tebow didn't play well neither did Colt I like Tony but truth is the PAC 10 is weak compared to the SEC.

I think Colt took himself out of the race with his performance against Nebraska. |

I agree he did |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
yeah but last week ingram played like crap against auburn, and colt had 300 yds passing and 175 on the ground
that said ingram will most likly get it |

the pac 10 was very good this year. SEC has 3 ranked teams, pac 10 has 5... |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
it also pisses me off that so many people think colt mccoy should win the heisman, when in fact this is one of his worst seasons. he had the same amount of td passes and less ints when he was a FRESHMAN as he does this year, he is down 7 td passes this year from last year, up 4 ints, down 6% in completion percentage, and down a whopping 8 rushing tds. he doesnt deserve the heisman imo.
|
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
With it so close, some voters may say well McCoy should have won last year so let's give it to him this year, or well Tebow is one of the best players in the history of college football let's give it to him like a lifetime achievement award.

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Looking at the total stats it's hard to say Toby doesn't deserve the Heisman.

I would say that's pretty good production against teams that were ranked in the top 10 at the time they played (Oregon and USC). |

True, but look at who they played & how times did they beat the SEC? Does the PAC 10 even face the SEC often? In the past everytime Bama, Auburn, Florida & LSU requested to play USC they decline. After the year they screwed JC & Auburn out of the National Championship Auburn ask to play USC to show them they could beat them without JC, Cadillac & Ronnie Brown they didn't want it. |
Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart
Give it to Ndamakong Suh of Nebraska, never once have I ever seen such a dominate defensive lineman man handle oLineman like he did throughout the whole game. He picked up Colt McCoy with one hand around his neck and literally threw him to the ground. He is more dominating than either ingram or gerhart IMO
