Record Injuries

Record Injuries to the Offensive Line

Wow, did not realize this but if you stop to think about it, the number of injuries to hit this team is truly mind boggling. I mean Portis goes out, then Betts, O - line has been decimated, Hall is out for the upcoming game, Haynesworth is questionable, Cooley out for the rest of the year I believe...so many big names going down.

Bad conditioning or bad luck?

Bad luck. You can't blame broken bones and weird degenerative neck syndromes on conditioning.. this team is just plain cursed.

Let the young players get some playing time. Get rid of the old dead weight . Go 4 - 12 and get a nice high first round pick. My holiday wish.

Re: Record Injuries

It's not like we were worldbeaters when we were fully healthy. We still had a losing record before a big part of these injuries occured.

It ain't a curse and sure isn't a sign of conditioning. Record injuries or not, they are part and parcel of fielding a competitive NFL football team. The Skins have neglected this competitive aspect of the team and now are in the throws of a terrible season.

What it comes down to is that there should be no excuses for not being ready for a complete NFL season.

The Eagles in preseason lost their starting MLB, the one that wears the Radio for the defense, and they still have one of the best defenses in the league. The Eagles know how to account for these eventual problems. They've had just as many injuries to significant players and positions, even much earlier, but they still remain competitive in light of that.

NO MORE EXCUSES...it's time to build a competitive team from the ground up and make sure that it remains competitive until December and preferrably January. No more taking risks by fielding a team with shallow depth every year. The only bad luck we have is having managment personnel with poor foresight and direction.

Bad luck is for losers.

Re: Record Injuries

Honestly -
Both Samuels and Thomas were know to be highly likely to sustain multiple game injuries. MWilliams hadn't played and was out for a couple years so it's not shocking to see him sidelined a couple games. Rinehart also had struggled with injuries.
Overall, the FO was counting on luck being involved with the OL somehow staying healthy. Instead everyone's body reacted normally to the pounding of an NFL season. These weren't for the most part mystery injuries, or even conditioning injuries. They were historically known injuries that somewhere along the line you have to acknowledge and bring in young healthy solid and qualified replacements.

Also I read that the Redskins are investing heavily to prevent future record injuries

I believe they have started 5 different players at MLB in the 10 games this season. Their solution seems to have been a revolving door.

I wasn't aware that they went through 5 different players, as I thought they found a solution by trading for Witherspoon? I'm pretty sure that it happened before they went through 5 players?

They ended up trading for Will Witherspoon before the trading deadlne this year.

Before that though they went with Stewart's backup and even brought Trotter back for a game or two.

Right I believe they made a couple of trades and ultimately ended up signing a guy who I don't believe has played for a couple of years. It's not like they had someone waiting in the wings should their starter go down. So let's not act like they did.

My point being was their defense didn't fall apart due to the absence of a vital cog in their defense.

I can list a few other positions where they had injury and we'll look at the backup...QB Kolb comes in and throws huge for the 2 games of relief he played, goes 1-1 and wins over the Chiefs. Campbell played verse the Chiefs and lost and he's a starter. McCoy is proving to be serviceable with Westbrook going down. The rookie, Maclin, steps in for Curtis since he's been out with knee ailments. Winston Justice is a 2nd rounder who the Eagles didn't want to rely on OL. He is now starting and receiving praise for 'stepping up his play' this season.

Here is the list of the Eagles IR:
Cornelius Ingram Sep 1, 2009 Injured Reserve Knee
Stewart Bradley Sep 1, 2009 Injured Reserve Knee
Fenuki Tupou Sep 6, 2009 Injured Reserve Chest
Shawn Andrews Sep 15, 2009 Injured Reserve Back
Omar Gaither Oct 28, 2009 Injured Reserve Left foot
Ellis Hobbs Nov 11, 2009 Injured Reserve Neck

Here is the Skins:
Colt Brennan Sep 6, 2009 Injured Reserve Hip
Randy Thomas Sep 23, 2009 Injured Reserve Torn right triceps
Chris Samuels Oct 31, 2009 Injured Reserve
Chris Horton Nov 11, 2009 Injured Reserve Toe
Ladell Betts Nov 23, 2009 Injured Reserve Torn ACL and MCL
Eddie Williams Nov 23, 2009 Injured Reserve Fibula
Chad Rinehart Nov 23, 2009 Injured Reserve Fibula

They've suffered their season ending injuries earlier this year. Just about half of our come from this past week. Also Colt is hardly apart of this list as he was battling to even make the team during camp.

With this said I feel the most important thing to be reminded of is this...under no circumstances should there be any excuses for the current state of our team. If we're not seeing a bountiful harvest it's probably because no one is planting seeds.

Re: Record Injuries

Kevin Kolb and Winston Justice, especially Justice, are two examples of high draft picks that have struggled for years and would have been called busts by the middle of their first season here.

And Ingram and Tupou are two rookies anyway
