Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
We talked about him a few weeks ago, here's some more recent news
UK's Jarmon attracts 18 NFL teams to workout | KentuckySports.com |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
I don't know much about him personally. Is he worth a flyer? How high of a pick is he worth?
|
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
After signing Haynesworth and drafting Orakpo, you would think Redskins are done with D-line.. If it wouldn't cost us a high round, then I wouldn't complain I guess.. After all, more than half of the league checked him out..
If we try to accquire Jarmon, then does this mean Redskins seems to be set on playing Orakpo as LB? |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Same as Mattyk72.

Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Depending on the pick we give I wouldn't getting him. He's a little small (6'3 277) but he was named All-SEC (first team) by Rivals.com (2007)
All-SEC (second team) by SEC coaches (2007) Univ Kentucky Co-Most Outstanding Defensive Player (2007) so he has some talent. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHXQMQ9aSWI[/ame] |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Here is a good description of how the supplemental draft works from the article
The supplemental draft is done via e-mail. Each team submits to the league the names of the players they are interested in, as well as the round of the supplemental draft they would like to choose them in. The team that submits the highest bid is awarded rights to the player. If more than one team bids a pick from the same round, the team with the highest pick in the round wins out. If a team uses a pick in the supplemental draft, they must forfeit their choice in the corresponding round of the next year's regular draft.
|

Vinny likes him so.........if we could get him for a 6th, I'd say go for it, but he will probably go higher considering he had a good workout. Great sophmore year. Not so good junior year. |

That's how I see it. 18 teams went to his workout so there's probably a higher bidder than us, but it could happen that we get him in the 6th or 7th. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
I'd consider giving up a 5th, especially the way we draft late in rounds. I'd rather have this guy than Cody Glenn. Other than a few exceptions we haven't drafted that well past the 3rd. Not that other teams are much better and I do think we've been doing better lately, but it still feels like we miss more than other teams.
2005 4. Manuel White, FB, UCLA (120th overall) 5. Robert McCune, ILB, Louisville (154th overall) 6. Jared Newberry, OLB, Stanford (183rd overall) 7. Nehemiah Broughton, FB, The Citadel (222nd overall) 2004 5. Mark Wilson, OT, California - 151st overall 6. Jim Molinaro, OT, Notre Dame - 180th overall 2003 7. Gibran Hamdan, QB, Indiana - 232nd overall |

Huh? That's about the prototypical size for a DE coming out of college. Anywhere in the 270 and above range is not small for a college DE. Orakpo at 260 is a little small for DE. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Too bad he doesn't play RT or LB.
But I guess you'd argue a 5th rounder aint gunna get you a talented OT or LB anyways. I say, throw in a 5th...why not?...I've never heard of the guy...hey...why not hire me as the Skins GM while you're at it? |

Orakpo at 260 is a little small for DE.
The height not the weight. If you read my first post, I said "small" referring to his height. My bad for not making that clear enough for you. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
The only thing I don't want to do is give up draft picks like they don't mean anything. If nothing else, they can always be used to help move up in the draft. Vinny likes him so there's a chance we'll go after him. Just be reasonable about it.

Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Jarmon considered leaving after his junior season, applying to the NFL Advisory Committee and receiving a fourth- to fifth-round grade
Jeremy Jarmon, , NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com I've seen folks mentioning anything from a 3rd -5th rounder for this guy...he will probably go with a 5th or a 4th to a desperate team, which we are not. No way someone gives up a 3rd for this guy...I sure hope we don't....a 5th..maybe...but then who do you cut? |

I suppose we should ask ourselves what round pick would make the fanbase have another one of those Vinny is a complete freakin moron reactions! My bet is a 4th round pck would be really testing the integrity of the dam and a 3rd rounder would unleash the beast. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Jarmon is worth a 5th at best, but I have a gut feeling Vinny's gonna outbid and give up a 4th and maybe (I hope not) a 3rd. If we do get him I think we'd cut Buzbee.

Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
I guess I wouldn't have a big problem giving up a 4th or 5th.

I don't know the kid and have not seen anything about him. If he's that good and can help the team this yr then go for him but if he's raw and would take a yr to develope then no. If he is that good then I could see Vinny offering a 3rd. Then next yr using the 1st and 2nd on offense....perhaps O-line considering the defense would be pretty much done bar any injuries. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Thing is, if you draft him, he has to make the team. Which means, he has to outplay Wynn/Buzbee. Which means you can't take him if you aren't absolutely certain he can help the team's DL depth THIS season. As a rookie.
|
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Gil Brandt on NFL radio said he thought it would take a 3rd rounder to get this kid, for whatever it's worth. Gtripp, I don't agree with you. If you draft a rookie, especially in the supplemental draft, you're drafting them for the future. Not this year. He's an investment that you have to let grow.

Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Does anyone know of a site where all the players that are available in the supplemental draft are listed and evaluated?
|
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
I would be pissed if we spend a 4th on this guy....remember, he is totally clueless as he missed out on all the rookie classes/practice/etc.
Therefore, I would suggest that he should be drafted up to 1 round later that where he would have been drafted in april. We don't need this guy...if we get him for a 5th, I'd be fine with it...but he will be running around like a chicken with his head cut off for the first half of the year....that is not good. A 3rd?....that would really suck...as a 3rd should arguably be used for a starter in year 1...if not year 2. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
What happens to Wynn, Daniels, and Alexander if we get this guy?
|

In addition, I'd like to see the FO try to acquire additional picks in the first three rounds via trade whenever it makes sense to do so. If I were GM, very few players would retire as Redskins on my watch. They'd be traded and replaced while they still had some value. If that makes me a bad guy, so be it. I just want to see the Skins build a dynasty. More to the point, I doubt that this guy is special enough to merit a 3rd. I could live with a 4th if Vinny wants him. |

We'd most likely cut Buzbee if we got him. From what I'm reading most of the draft experts thought he was a mid to late round pick in this years draft. Now Vinny sees him at a workout and wants to outbid the other teams to get him. Jarmon's true value is a 5th, but I could give up a 4th. Anything more is a huge reach in my mind. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Someone remind me... do we have all of our 2010 picks?
For some reason in my head I thought we gave up a 4th in 2010 to the Dolphins for Taylor or maybe someone else... |

Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Yes, a second in 2009 and a 6th in 2010 for Jason Taylor. Isn't that great? We haven't offered enough for his considerable production. We should give the Fins our #1 next year just to be nice.

Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
correct me if i am wrong. last year we had a chance to use a pick on the RT in balt. i dnt remember what they used to grad him, but i do recall he had bagage. the kid turned into a surprise and a beast at RT fot the ravens. i would use a 3rd if we have one avaible. then next year we focous on the offensive line, plus the kid would come cheap.

Why would anyone have a problem with that? We usually throw those away for guys who wear T-shirts on Sunday. |

He was recruited as a runningback and converted to LB so his athleticism is going to be pretty good. I know he didn't make the best first impression but give the guy a chance. What if he turns into an Antonio Pierce type guy? You never know. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
This will be a waste pick unless you have a extra pick to use don't do it. We have plenty of D-Lineman in camp we don't need to add 1 more practice squad player.

Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Saw this on RI - does anyone know about this guy and is he worth using a supplemtal pick on?
It might also make sense for the Redskins to take an extended look at Central Michigan OT Joe McMahon, whose academic struggles forced him to enter the supplemental draft.
Redskins Insider - Free Agents, Cooley and Fan Appreciation |

Redskins Insider - Free Agents, Cooley and Fan Appreciation
From what I understand, he's kind of a jack of all trades/master of none type of lineman. He can fill in anywhere along the interior most likely in the NFL and could make a career out of it as a backup (or backup to the backup), but probably not starter material. Blake Boyd (LB from Western Kentucky) is an interesting prospect, but he's really a 3-4 LB. Otherwise, we don't need to spend a draft pick on any of the WRs and I don't want McKinner Dixon. I guess I'd be ok with a 4th for Jarmon, though it wouldn't be my preference. |
Re: Redskins Showing Interest in Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
WTEM is reporting we just took him in the 3rd round of the supplemental draft
