Eric Maynor picked by the Utah Jazz

My boy Eric Maynor gets picked by the Jazz at 20. I dont really have any knowledge above ncaa basketball, but I know Daren Williams is Utah's PG and is pretty good.

So does anyone think he will get to play at all? Maybe this will be good get to sit back and be learn and bulk up?

I think he will pan out to be a really good NBA player but he doesnt have the strength yet and isnt a superstar shooter yet either. He's one of the best clutch players and is the best true guard ive ever seen at the college level. Comparable to Steve Nash, in my opinion.

Re: Eric Maynor picked by the Utah Jazz

From Eric Maynor | NBADraft.net

NBA Comparison: Mark Jackson/Eric Snow

Strengths: Crafty point guard with a winning pedigree ... Single-handedly led VCU to national prominence after taking over the PG reigns his sophomore year ... Fearless performer in the clutch, stepping up in the biggest moments of the biggest games ... Despite being a one man show, rarely settled for quick forced shots or made teammates outcasts ... Extremely patient on the offensive end, allowing plays to unfold- no predetermined decisions ... Tremendous basketball IQ and understanding of court geometry ... Shows good court vision and ability to find the open man, averaging over 6 assists per contest in the 08-09 season ... Utilizes the change of pace dribble as well as anyone in this draft class, lulling defenders to sleep and blowing by them ... A master of getting into the paint off the bounce, either finishing well at the rim or getting to the FT line where he is very efficient ... Shot 82% from the stripe as a Senior, which is efficient ... Has an amazing ability to convert difficult shots ... Very tricky around the rim, shooting from odd and angles with the ability to adjust in midair ... Despite slight frame, shows deceptive strength finishing well through contact ... Possesses deep range on jumper (39% as a junior and 36% as a senior.) Has a solid mid-range and step back jumper as well ... Excellent hands on defense, averaging 1.7 steals per game his senior season ... Considered a high character guy and has the advantage of 4 years of college experience under his belt ...

Weaknesses: Not a top level athlete ... Foot speed and explosiveness are not optimal ... Extremely light at 164 lbs, whether he can add weight is a big question mark ... Gives the appearance of being heavy footed, lacking burst on his first step ... Was not forced to compete against upper echelon athletes on a regular basis in the mid-major CAA ... NBA will be a huge step up in class athletically, as well as size and strength ... Turnovers are a concern. Against top competition was very careless with the ball racking up some massive turnover totals (10 at Rhode Island, 7 vs. New Mexico and 8 at Oklahoma) ... This could be a product of team quality, as he was forced to supply a large majority of his team's offense ... Gets too fancy with passes at times, looking for the spectacular. Settles for too many jumpers when switched against a big in pick and roll situations ... Not a natural shooter. Lacks elevation on jumper, almost shooting a set shot from three ... Low release point and slow delivery from behind the arc ... Can be lax on the defensive side of the ball - has a tendency to take plays off on defense if his offense isn't flowing ... Will turn 22 in June and improved shooting stroke.

Notes: Scored team's final 9 points in 2007 CAA Championship game to overcome late 5 point deficit ... Hit game winning pull up jumper to defeat Duke in opening round of 2007 NCAA Tournament ...

Great start to his career. I hope he keeps it up, and really hopes he gets traded to the Wizards at some point.

Also Oklahoma @ VCU is Saturday night and should be a really good game. Thinking it will be on at least espnu.

VCU is lead by big man Larry Sanders this year, who will probably be a top 10 pick if he leaves this year. He is 6'10" and has a 7'6" wingspan, and only weighs 230. He looks absolutely ridiculous, but he is a blocking machine and is fun as hell to watch.
whats the connection between you guys?
No real connection. I went to VCU. When your school has no football team and you have a absolutely awesome player on your midmajor bball team he can make things really fun. Current students and alumni alike are big Eric Maynor fans, he wasnt a show boat and preferred passing over shooting, but he was exciting to watch and was the most clutch NCAA player ive ever seen. VCU Basketball has become really big down here over the last 8 or 9 years, and he was/is definitely part of that.

Re: Eric Maynor picked by the Utah Jazz

He won't get much playing time behind Deron Williams, he's one of the top PGs in the NBA, except for when Deron is injured or missing like he is now (daughter having surgery).

Maynor scored 24 points in 41 minutes last game vs. Cleveland on Saturday and had 13 points/11 assists against the Sixers the night before. When Williams returns, his playing time will go back to next to nothing (under 10 mins), but he's making the most of his chance to play right now. Williams missed 20 games to injury last season, but has been pretty reliable most of his career.

The way he’s playing, Maynor can expect to still be on the court even when the rest of the Jazz get healthy.
Maynor scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and helped the Utah Jazz stop a late surge by the Toronto Raptors and hold for a 104-91 victory Wednesday night.
Maynor and Deron Williams(notes) ran Utah’s backcourt for the fourth quarter and the combination of point guards was too much for the Raptors to overcome.

“He continues to impress me,” said Williams, who finished with 20 points and nine assists. “He’s playing great. He’s composed, he’s making plays. He takes a lot of pressure off a lot of people.”
Maynor had started the last two games as Williams left the team last week during a road trip to be with his young daughter as she went through medical tests for an undisclosed condition.
The Jazz were 1-1 under Maynor. He teamed with Williams for the fourth quarter after Toronto cut an 18-point lead to three.
The Raptors got within one point early in the fourth before the Jazz blew it open with their 17-2 run.
“You want to win at all times, but you also want to be a part of what’s going on out there,” said Maynor, who is averaging 17 points and seven assists in his last three games. “For me to get out there and get the minutes and be a part of what’s going on, I think it’s great.”

Impressive, still played 23 minutes with Deron back and playing basically the entire game. Looks like he's played his way into the lineup in a way that the coach can't leave him on the bench.

I haven't posted anything about e main in a while but this is a really good read. Anyone who watched the thunder got to see maynor play off the bench and he did a really good job. I hope he stays w the thunder because they are a young good team I think he could start pressing for more playing time.

Also anyone who watched the nba draft this year might of saw espns gaff when larry sanders got picked. On the screen it said "first vcu player drafted since eric maynor (2009)". I mean we suck but damn that was last year they could have phrased it a little differently....

So im not sure what the deal is.
I think Larry Sanders has the upside to be a tremendous player due to his freakish physical characteristics. I believe he has the same wingspan of Demarcus Cousins, which I think will give them top 5 wingspans ever in the nba. He just really really raw, as he has only been playing organized ball for 5 years. That said here is some great and surprising news:

Scott Skiles and company seem to have this draft thing figured out. For a second straight season the Bucks have landed another player that has turned more than just a few heads in Summer League action.
Larry Sanders, selected 15th overall in the 2010 NBA draft by the aforementioned Milwaukee Bucks, is proving that he is much more than just a 6'11" athletic power forward with above average length. The kid out of Fort Pierce, Florida is making a huge impact not only with his rebounding and defense, but he is providing an unexpected boost in the scoring column as well.
Tuesday night in Las Vegas the lanky power forward registered a team high 22 points on 9 of 14 field goals. One of those nine field goals coming from beyond the arc tying the game at 64 all in the closing stages.

Although the Bucks wound up losing at the final buzzer on a three pointer by Grizzlies' forward Sam Young, the VCU product showed scouts, GM's, and everyone else in attendance just how versatile his game stands to be at the next level. Showcasing a very adept ability to put the ball on the floor and make plays as well as knock down the three ball (2 of 4), the Bucks have to be excited about the prospect of pairing Sanders up with franchise center Andrew Bogut next season. If the 6'11" forward can take his strong play into the regular season, then the Bucks look to have quite a formidable front court duo moving forward.

But not to worry, Sanders didn't forget what the Bucks liked most about him coming into the draft; which is dominating on the defensive end picking up nine rebounds and two blocks in the loss.

All I can guess is maybe you saw something on the Bottom Line of one of ESPN's channels. Either something was written wrongly or you read it wrong. But there was no mention of Maynor within the draft telecast from what I saw
