Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
The Washington Redskins will restrict large tailgate parties in the FedEx Field parking lots this season, limiting tailgates using more than one parking space to "the back" of parking lots, according to a release from the team. The team also said that drivers of all vehicles will be directed to specific areas of the lots instead of being allowed to choose their own. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
S**tty decision to make in a bad economy.

Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
I have to say, The Daniel is an idiot.
After 15 years of being on the waiting list, and then having season tickets for the last nine, paying over $17,000 in total to see some really mediocre football, I just had lunch with my brother today and told him I wouldn't be renewing my tickets for the 2011 year. Just cements my decision. I'm still a fan, but with the HD TV I could by for the cost of every single game I went to, I'll be watching from home. J-Dawg. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
If it makes getting in and out of the stadium more efficient than it is probably the right move. I can see how those who get there early and pick out their spots would be upset but they are definitely the minority.
|
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
Note:
The team will no longer maintain game day, cash parking lots since there are numerous private operators in the stadium vicinity providing the service. From their website |

If you want a big tailgate party and need several spaces you have to use the back of the lots. If you want to use one spot and tailgate then you can park toward the front. I get there early enough that its not an issue but when you have people tail gating taking up several spots and then people driving around and cannot use those spots then it leads to longer lines getting into the parking area. |

Agreed. If this your reason for giving up season tickets, then maybe tailgating is more important than seeing the game live in the first place. |

Agreed agreed. You are only supposed to get one spot per car. Those who take two cars and do a tailgate in between on a third space make an impossible lot even harder. the backs of the lots have plenty of green space room to have larger tailgates. I see no problem. Now the tossing of the cash lots is interesting. I guess the crap with the buses became too much of a headache. |

I'm not sure if its still true today but a couple of years ago there was a waiting list for a parking pass. So if you finally got season tickets you had to get on a waiting list to now get a parking pass. So I don't think that's much of a change. |

No not much of a change but getting to and from those lots may now be a giant pain in the ass since they'll be private deals. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
I've never been a big fan of tailgating at games, concerts, whatever. If I'm going to an event it's to see the event, not to get all tanked up before hand. So even if I did go to games this wouldn't bother me.

It's a matter or principle for some. I know plenty of people who didn't renew their season tickets and won't go to Seahawks games because they don't allow tailgating at all anymore. |

So are you saying you cannot tailgate because you drink too much and could not stay sober enough to enjoy the game? LOL Actually tailgating keeps me more sober as I get stuffed eating and then it cuts back on how much I can drink durn the game. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
Crap now people will have to go to the game sober. Actually now that I think about it, given last years performance they shouldn't be allowing people to go to FedEx field sober otherwise people might realize whats going on. Hell after last year they should start selling oxycotton to insure the happiness of the fanbase during tough times. "Oxy Cotton Candy get YOUR oxy cotton candy. Cotton Candy with the power of oxygen! First One's free!"
But in all seriousness is this really such a bad thing? Does anyone remember the Mike Wise story about his experience at FedEx field with his son during the Bears game? Now of course if this is a scheme to increase sales inside the stadium then that would be pretty messed up, but they must have had a lot of problems to put something like this into effect. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
I have a friend making this season his last because of the news. Now he may change his mind after calming down a little, but who knows. I get phone calls and emails on a regular basis offering tickets "personally" from Zorn, after waiting for 6 years. I wasnt plaining on getting tickets this year, and now wont even think about it next year.
When you go to a game 1 or 2 times a year its a novelty and you are more interested in the event. But if you have season tickets in the 400's you get a lot more from the game by watching at home. The best reason about going to Fedex when you have 400 level tickets or Restricted Viewing is the tailgating. |

I'm 100% the opposite. I'm not a type of guy who goes to the tailgate and gets hammered. But to me, what makes it worth driving 7 hours to DC to 2-3 games a year is the tailgating. Theres nothing like being at the staidum at 9am with a beer cracked, get a little buzz working and grilling... I love it.... of course there are a TON of idiots who are the entire reason for this decision. Does anyone know what "colors" they're going to be doing this with? |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
I live in Texas and never had the pleasure of making a home game yet, but through the media and there web site I've seen a heard about the (DTC) Dead Tree Crew. I get the impression they are some tru die hard fans which I cant wait to get a chance to tailgate with them (You should see the fools in dallas or Texas).
So,what I'm asking is. Is the DTC a cause of this? |

I just can't wait for my first game, I'm planning on making it when dallas visits. Dude I could see myself with ya'll! |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
Yea they definitely do not need to be making it harder for our already uptight fan base to let loose and get rowdy for our team. Tailgating helps to keep it so not everybody in the expensive seats is just sitting there quietly with their hands crossed! Terrible news

Damn, you guys were pretty close to the stadium. Now I got an idea why the tailgaters are upset. Anyway just for fun I'm going to wager that you're the guy in the Taylor jersey at 0:08.
There goes my mass gang bang in the green lot.
LMFAO |

It is just representative of the Daniel doing anything and everything to make an extra buck off the team, which is of course is his right. When Fedex opened it had 78,000 seats. Now it is 90,000 but the building isn't any bigger. In business schools, we always teach that there are three major elements of any thing you spend money on:
1. Product 2. Price and 3. Service
The general rule is you can get two out of three but not usually all three. For years, it seems the Redskins are not delivering any of the three to their fans that pay to go to the stadium. The product is not great. Haven't had a HOME playoff game in how many years? Price: Not just the tickets, but the start to finish price for a day at the field is ridiculous. Service: Escalators that don't work, lines everywhere. Pat down searches to make sure you don't smuggle in peanuts. It just aint fun. It just aint worth it. Not to me. Maybe to you But not to me. J-Dawg |

The only lot where tailgating won't be allowed is the Platinum...they'll tailgate in the Purple lots |

She also had a pocket knife which she was able to keep. True story. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
Just one more thing that makes FedEx Field a logistical nightmare and a lousy place to go see a game. I get so much more out of the game watching it at home in HD anyway. The gameday experience is fun - it's great to grill burgers and dogs with friends and get a buzz on, but honestly, when I do that for football games, I don't get a lot from watching the game itself in the stands. Not nearly as much as I do in front of crisp HD with a DVR so you can rewind plays, pause for bathroom breaks and beer runs, etc etc.
I had the opportunity to buy season tickets this year and declined. It stinks to say, but I hate FedEx Field. I just happen to love the team that plays there. I'll probably go to one or two games this year, and that will be plenty. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
jgalecpa:
You have it right. The game-day experience at Fed Ex is not much fun anymore and it is nowhere near worth the cost on a season-ticket basis. And since you can get single game seats to ANY game you want, you can pick and choose only the best games with the best weather. If I wanted to be hammered - - or buzzed since 9:00AM - - while watching a game, I can do that at home in front of my HDTV anytime I want. Funny, but I don't choose to do that very often... I'll probably pick two games to see live this year - - maybe one. I'll go with four or five friends. We will hire a limo to take us from one of our houses to the game and then to pick us up and drive us home afterwards. We will have had a few adult beverages; we will still be functional and rational - - but not necessarily legal for driving purposes after the game. Total cost to me for those two games - getting prime seats even if we have to pay more than face value which we don't usually have to do plus limo plus our adult beverages and food along the way - will be far less than a decent season ticket without parking or any food costs. |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
I've only gone to a handful of games at FedEx and the experience I think has gotten better over the years, but it's never been great.
On the other hand, going to a Ravens game is a great experience...except for the fact it's the Ravens |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
If Im reading this correct you can still tailgate, you just cant take up multiple spots. IE grill behind your vehicle instead of next to it. I don't see the big deal, you want to have a huge party, you'll walk a bit longer.
Personally, I'd much rather watch a game on TV than go anymore. Unless it's a special atmosphere game (2005 Cowboys Game was crazy!) |
Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
Smootsmack:
Ravens' home games are more fun than Skins' home games from the perspective of "game day experience". One of the absolute best NFL stadium experiences is to get invited to one of the top-shelf luxury boxes in Philly at the Linc. You do NOT want to be in the parking lots among all of the mouthbreathers who are tailgating there, but once you get to the premier luxury boxes at the Linc, you are in a very good place... |

This is incorrect. The last time they won the division, in 1999, they hosted a game in the Wild Card round and beat the Lions 27-13 at home. |

I've seen them act like jerks to Browns fans and I experienced during the Sunday Night game last year. What's worse: I don't think the a$$hole Baltimore fan is the minority. I actually know a lot of them (from living in B-More) and I had a Ravens fan tell me, before last season, "Joe Flacco can die in a car fire for all I care, he hasn't proven anything, it's all about Troy Smith, F*@K FLACCO!" Immediately after saying that every Ravens fan at the party cheered. Come the middle of the season when I was saying, "I told you he would be good." They all claimed he had earned his stripes and was the "new Troy Smith." True Story. |

There are idiotic fans everywhere - - not just in Baltimore. Recall I said that going to the luxury suites at the Linc was a great experience; we need not contemplate the rationality and the sobriety of a large number of Philly fans in the same stadium. |
I cant believe people are so upset about this news. They arent doing away with tailgating, they are just moving it to the back of the lots to minimize the congestion. Its pretty annoying to get into the lots to see every-other-spot taken up by a group of drunks. Just move to the back, do your thing and have a good time. Most of you guys could use the extra 50 yard walk anyway. AND.............what stadium are you going to? Ive never seen the escalators broken, and the searches are for guns.....not peanuts. It was more than just a select few is all I'm trying to say. |

Re: Redskins to Restrict Large Tailgate Parties
It does seem to be a little ridiculous that premium spots are taken up like this. Makes sense to have a designated area for tailgating.
