Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
How about bringing in Matt Stover for some competition at kicker?
|
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
is leroy hill still available?
|
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
apparently he is still with Seattle
|
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Hill re-signed w/ Seattle pretty quickly.
|
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
With Mike Williams already seeing injury (a long shot to begin with) I still think the smartest thing to do is sign Levi Jones...even though he won't start @ LT and it will cost us the rest of cap.
Would also still like to see MW re-signed...I agree he's the 2nd best LB on the market...and when healthy probably the best. |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Wouldn't mind seeing Washington back, but no one on either list has me excited
|
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Levi jones or derrick brooks
|
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
T. Laboy , can rush the passer , and has played with big Al in Tenn. He is probably just a pass rusher , and he might be able to spell AC 10 plays per game . We may be set at END as well as DT so I wouldn't be dissapionted if we did not invite any DL .

I like T. Laboy and I'm surprised he's still on the market. I also think we need a legitimate backup LT (L. Jones) in case Samuels goes down. |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Marcus Washington!
|
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Nothing too exciting, maybe Washington or Brooks at LB
Levi Jones or Kwame Harris at LT |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
i'd LOVE to se MW brought back and Orakpo put where he's supposed to be... right in front of him.

That's what I'm hoping to see by the beginning or ending of the camp.. I have feelings that Marcus will perform better than we thought he would for two reasons.. One, he has a chip on his shoulders, to prove people wrong that he can still play.. Two, he has been working out with same doctor Ryan Clark used when he had his spleen removed and Redskins chose to let him walk.. And now look how Clark is doing at Steelers, he compliments Polumanu (sp?) well.. |

Curious about where u got the digs on MW gridiron... I think the conventional wisdom is the longer we go the less likely Marcus' return is. I'm holding out hope anyway but what u said above seems pretty encouraging on top of everything else. My intuition is Marcus makes a better SLB than anyone else on the roster at this point...i doubt that changes before the season. |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Something about Ty Law in a Skins uniform would make me very happy

I think I read it somewhere in washingtonpost.com's JLC blogs or an article.. I will try to do some digging and see if I could find it.. Edit: I found the blog, here it is; http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/jason-la-canfora/marcus-washington-update.html
Something about Ty Law in a Skins uniform would make me very happy
Why would you want an aging CB coming in to block Barnes and Tryon's developments? |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
I'm still having nightmares of MW getting smoked by J. Witten. Leave him on the free agent market.

No Job is promised in the NFL, I don't care if you were drafted by us or not... who ever will help us win... Development is what the practice squad is for. |

 If Horton hadn't of blown his assignment and came over the top like he was suppose to, nobody would have gotten "smoked". |

And Law will be able to cover many WRs? I highly doubt it, and the fact of his availability in the market proves my point.. |

I am excited about Barnes but just because you draft someone shouldn't guarantee a roster spot if a FA would make you better. When you are 8-8 every starting spot should be open. |

We weren't even that good. Edit: Ok we were that good. Haha i thought we went 7-9. Nothing to see here move along. |

Yes, but smart teams also develop their young player, and giving them the opportunity to play in real games (instead of practice) is the best development a player can get. Besides, our CB unit is pretty solid right now, why bring in an aging player to the mix? I don't think anyone is handing Barnes or Tryon a starting spot, but they should see action in the defensive rotation this year, and bringing someone like Law would hinder that. |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Jeremy Tuman would help this team win right now, but I don't think they'll go get him because they want to have Eddie Williams win Yoder's spot as backup FB/3rd TE.
If we were willing to stash Williams on the PS for a year, Tuman could pay off big time on the GL. |

Exactly and I love Gibbs as much as most of the next guys, but the plug in old guys who might be able to do it now approach did set us back. |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Honestly there is no promise that Tryon or Barnes will beat out Smoot or Westbrook for a crack at the starting lineup... An invite to camp doesn't install you instantly in the final roster if you a vetran. It only sets you up with the opportunity to compete. A player like Chris McAllister, Samari Rolle, or Ty Law could come in here and make a positive impact. Filling the roll of the crafty vetran, who can cover the slot and spell Landry at Free Safety on occasion. All I'm worried about is a repeat of the last play of the Rams game last year, when tryon got burned on a game winning play ughh!

That was Torrence not Tryon who got burned, and we cut him. We just need to let the yonger guys step up, and signing a veteran CB would screw up Tyron and Barnes's developement. |

I can't see Westbrook making the team and I can't see us PS'ing a 3rd rounder. |

true on not putting barnes on PS but Tryon on the other hand why not?

Jerry Gray has said that Tryon is coming along very well and he thinks Tryon is going to be very, very good for a long time in this league. They will not put him on the PS. |

It was on the Redskins Blog when Matt Terl interviewed Jerry Gray I think. I remember reading it somewhere. |

Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Although I am 99% sure Jeremy Bridges will end up winning the RT spot..Are any of the FA's below a better option before the season starts?
Levi Jones (LT) - Talented, long-time starter for the Bengals, but has suffered through various injuries over the past few years which have limited his play. Mark Tauscher (RT) - May not be ready to play until after the regular season starts. Jon Runyan (RT) - He still wants to play one to two years and should be ready to go some time in July or so. [Charles Spencer (LT/RT/G) - Very talented and versatile, but hasn't been the same after suffering a horrific leg/knee injury during his rookie season with the Texans. |

B) Levi jones is the only one I would sign on that list, runyan I would sign if our tackles got injured during the season C) I would definitly bring in derrick brooks at least for a workout he is a great OLB which we desperatly need |
Re: Updated (06/12/09),defensive and offensive free agents
Whether bridges starts I can't say...but if the roster stays as it is i bet he'll get significant playing time time this year. Heyer has suffered injury every year, missing time, and Williams is such a longshot. I'd sign Jones even if it took the rest of our cap room...OL is still such a glaring weakness IMO.

I hate to say this, but with Samuels locked in at LT, and a slew of suitors for RT (with Heyer at the front), I doubt Jones would want to come here. I would want him here, I don't know if he would come here as a backup, unless the team would guarantee him a starting spot. |

I'm sure you're exactly right Ruh. LJ basically has no reason to play for the Skins. He's a legit starter when healthy and someone will need a starter as we get closer to opening day. Hopefully we get some really nice surprises this year: Samuels and Thomas back healthy, Rinehart/Heyer/Bridges/Williams much improved. |
