Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Homeward bound and that didn't take long. Wish JJ only the best, great guy and true REDSKIN!
The Lions on the other hand, good luck with that..... Lions set to sign former Wolverine Jon Jansen | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press |
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Just read that -- good to hear he found somewhere, it was quick too, a bit surprised by that.. thought it would take a few more days. That puts him back home which is good for him, hopefully he'll retire a Skin.

Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Wow, this must be like the fastest signing ever in NFL history?
On another hand, I hope he does well with Lions.. But I sure hope he will retire as Skins tho.. |

Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Good for him! Jansen was one of my favorite redskins for the past 7 years or so. I hate seeing him go but I guess Bugle and company know what there doing. I hope he retires a Redskin too.

Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Lol true.. But I was referring to the situation when a guy is being released from the team :silly:

Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Good move for the Lions, they need veterans to help lead the turnaround.
|
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Nice to see he didnt have to wait long to join a new team. The Lions are a good fit and its cool because hes going home. Glad to see everything worked out.

Yes this was extremely quick even for the hometown ole timer. As I said I wish JJ only real good things great TRUE REDSKIN (when he isn't playing the SKINS that is). Kinda wish he would have just hung up those cleats, especially since the team he is joining ....well is coming off a record breaking 0-16 season. If he makes the team and is in shape to continue playing..? Week three in Detroit he will get to meet Big AL all over again and maybe a little dose of Orakpo.... Come on football season! Sidenote: Comcast has a good live interview with THE ROCK before he pulled out of DC, he had lunch with the RED SNAPPER and sailed off to Lions land! I will post the interview if I can find it....of course he was his usual class act! |

Peace BO...I mean that in a REDSKIN kinda way ;) I just watched myself, they didn't show the whole interview tonight on Comcast live. That just shows what a true class act JJ really is and has been to sit there at I'm sure one of the most difficult times in his life. Stand up guy, class act, locker room leader, one of the best in his prime, hate to see his time expire KIND OF TRUE REDSKIN! Good luck in Detroit JJ! (Except week 3, we need that WIN BABY!) |
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
I wonder if snyder and crew played a role in getting this done so fast

Apparently they flew Redskin One to Michigan just to pick him up, so they were pretty damn motivated. |
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
a signing this quick had to be in the works for a lil....

Yeah, maybe Snyder should be talking to the NFL about tampering by the Lions? j/k :silly: |
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
JJ getting a Vet min deal, worth approx. $845 K

Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
The Lions are sure signing a lot of vets. I think they'll be better but did they look at the film on Jansen?
|
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Great for Jon and the Lions. My only concern is that he will be playing on artificial turf.
|
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
It will probablt be a good signing since the Lions will be a running team and not a west coast passing team. Schwartz is a defensive minded coach from that Jeff Fisher mode.

At the very least hes good depth for a bad team looking to improve. Hes not as bad as people have made him out to be. Usually when players go to a new team they get rejuvenated. I think its a perfect fit for the Lions and Jansen. |

People keep talking about the Tuna having signed a player at 12:01 or something like that last yr. Wouldn't that make the fastest signing? Not including a players who were cut. |

Jansen getting released and then signed by the Lions, all took under an hour I'm guessing.

I agree. At the worst he's giving them a veteran backup presence along that OL. At best maybe he can squeeze a decent season out of himself as a starter. |
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
anybody know what the Lion's o line situation is? other than it sucks of course
does JJ have a legit chance to start? I wonder if they'll work him out at guard first. |
Jansen, 33, will sign for the veteran minimum if he passes a physical on Monday. The former Michigan Wolverine is expected to compete for the starting right tackle job with last year's first-rounder Gosder Cherilus. Both players struggled last season, but the Lions would obviously prefer if Cherilus earned the starting nod.
Jon Jansen |

Jon Jansen
thanks for posting that. I just went to their webpage (I know, I could've done so before I posted my question) & saw a no. of tackles on the roster. They signed a couple free agents & George Foster was re-signed as their RT in 08. Wonder if he's hurt? It doesn't look good for JJ at T at this point, but it could come down to health. I won't be surprised if he does or doesn't make the roster, but I will be very surprised if he starts over a healthy Cherilos or Foster. |

I never underestimate a man on a mission. Jansen wants to prove everyone wrong and it wouldnt shock me if with a new team he does just that. |

Justin Smiley was signed by Parcells at 12:20am. This makes any other situation, such as the Haynesworth deal, laughable when it is called tampering. |

My bet is Jansen will have a hard time making any NFL team besides the Redskins. Even the Lions. |

For real. It's gotta be well know that tampering in these cases is pretty widespread. How can anyone actually come to terms on multi-year (and often complex) contracts in minutes if there wasn't prior discussion? |

Maybe. Im pretty sure though he is solid depth at the very least for the Lions. I think if he signs he will easily make the roster for the regular season. If he was playing in DC for the vet min he would still be on the team imo. |

Yeah I feel the same way dude. Where does the time go? That 1999 Draft was insane the way Casserly wheeled and dealed. The 1999 and 2000 drafts should of built a dynasty for the Redskins. Im still upset how the Skins didnt take those two drafts and win for a decade. |
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Its official....
Lions signed OL Jon Jansen to a one-year, $845,000 contract. Jansen is 33 and declining, but the Redskins shouldn't have let him get away. He is still an effective run blocker and was only costing them $1.35 million. The Lions got an even better bargain and could use Jansen at right tackle or guard, where his pass protection shortcomings would be less problematic.
Jon Jansen |

Tampering. Wouldn't they have to know he was getting cut to even start to begin talks with him or they just got lucky and picked the right guy to tamper with. I'd say its a better chance that the skins maybe tried to trade Jansen first and the Lions knew there was a good chance he was getting dumped. |
Re: Lions to sign Jansen for 1 year deal, pending physical Monday
Glad to hear Jansen caught on with another team quickly. Good for the Lions too, Jansen is now the best offensive lineman that they got and he'll do alot of good there.

Jon Jansen
I'm glad rotoworld thinks it's okay to keep a player who can do half his job "effectively". "We're sorry you have two broken legs and a concussion Jason but we thought since Jon could still run block effectively we'd keep him around despite the fact that you'd get killed every time you try to drop back." |
