Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
We did this when we were once affiliated with another Redskins site and it was widely popular during the dead time of the off-season, so we bring it now to theWarpath.net. Through the Summer, we will run polls on our Main Page for the Best Ever Redskins at each and every position. Have your say, go vote. Discuss the positions here. We will put up new therads for each one.
First Up, and the easiest by far: CORNERBACK Rread the nominees HERE and VOTE in our POLL Then get your butt's back here and debate! |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Funny I've watched the Skins since the early 70's and Fisher and Lavender don't stick out in my mind. I had to pick Green. I remember his first play as a kick returner. I can still see him leaping over the opponants and taking it to the house to end up with a broken or buised rib. Then he came out the following weekend. He was one tough CB. Obviouse choice only cause of the number of yrs with the Skins, being a life long Skin, several pro bowls, and one heck of a humble dude. Gotta love him.
EDIT: I stand corrected. The play was in the divisional play offs in Chicago. but no denying he was a baller. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Hy5NJyqYg[/ame] |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Good Thread. Gotta be D. Green.

Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
No shock Darrell Green is up 20-0-0-0.
At the sametime alot of old time Redskin fans give alot of love to Pat Fischer. He was a damn good player for us back in the day. Id also give Mike Bass HM for his INT return for a TD of a Garo Yepremian pass (if you want to call it that :laughing- ) in Super Bowl VII. Without that TD the Skins would be the only team ever shutout in the Super Bowl. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
I don't know if there is anything more of a fact in this world than DG being our best CB ever.

Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
It appears as if you've omitted DeAngelo Hall!
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Hands down, the best we've ever had. I would love to look back in 10 yrs and be able to argue that Hall was the best that we had.

Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
After my vote its 39-0. I watched almost all his career and enjoyed every minute.

Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Has everyone already forgotten Deion Sanders????? lol....
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
I voted, making it 40-0, Darrell. This is, as the OP stated, the easiest for us. As good as Fischer was, he didn't last 20 years & NO ONE in the history of the GAME, not just the Redskins, had his style, speed, or hands. Darrell was a TRUE shutdown Corner & when he was on the field, over 70% of the passes that were thrown were thrown away from him...& he still made QBs & WRs suffer the way that he did...and let's not forget Dorsett & how he ran him down (I swear there was smoke coming off his feet watching him run across the field to catch him...just wow). Darrell, by a landslide.

Who??? ;) |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Darrell Green the best ever Redskin corner of all time. He played 19 seasons as a corner that has to be a record for most seasons played at that positon. Also he played with only 1 team for his entire career. Note worthys Chris Dishman, Lemar Parrish, Pat Fisher, Mike Bass, Tom Carter, Vernon Dean, Joe Lavender, and Martin Mayhew. Not a bad list of corners.

Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Hands down Green is the best Corner in Redskins History. He was very fast, played bigger than his size indicated, and had great ball skills.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
It would have to go to Green. however, had Champ still been playing for the Skins now, that may be a tougher decision.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Pat Fisher was one of my favorite redskins of all time. I wish I could have voted for him but it is so obvious that Green is the best cornerback this franchise has had.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
# 28 D. Green , slow as a snail , but he could cover :) . Pat Fisher was also one hell of a football player !

Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
It's clearly DG, but I think if Champ had played his whole career as a Redskin he'd be right there.

Maybe but Champ has been burned alot over the years. Alot more than Darrell Green ever was. Champs a good corner but hes not in Darrell Greens class imo. |

He was?? Not that I've seen. In his prime, most QBs barely even looked in the direction of the receiver he was covering. There was a time when you could look up "shut down corner" in the dictionary and see his picture. |

When he was in DC he wasnt burned that often but when he went to Denver there were numberous games where he was torched. Bailey has had a very nice career but I dont think id ever put him in Darrell Greens class when it comes to CBs. |

Currently I wouldn't put him in DG's category either. I was just saying that if he played his whole career with the Skins, we'd be talking about him and Darrell as the two best corners in team history. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Ok, who's the smartass that voted for Chump Bailey?

Yeah id agree with that. The only thing I was saying was if Bailey had played his whole career in DC the poll still would have Green up by a insane margin. Honestly id love to know who the 5 people are who didnt vote for Darrell Green. |

Dude you either must be being sarcastic or smokin some bad $h!t. DG was fastest man in NFL for years.. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
Thread is good...but the question is a no brainer..why even ask?
Not only is Green the best Redskins corner of all time...he could possibly be the best redskins player of all time |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Poll Series
We've had amazing corners over the years.
When Fisher retired, I believe he had the record for most games at corner (league-wide.) Then Green had it. And I remember during the '72 SB that they said that Bass hadn't allowed a TD in 2 years! It's a shame his career was cut short due to a back injury. Of course, in the end, you just have to vote for Green. |
