Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Will update as I hear things

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Zorn: Looking at all positions. But when looking for a QB first thing I look for is accuracy

Also, look for mobility, leadership, ability to come back and win tough games. Emotion

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder: We bring in about 20-25 guys (all positions across the board) for a private workouts/meetings

Cerrato: I can't tell you who's number 1 on our board

Snyder: Grades start during the season with the scouts. It starts with them. Coaches and scouts go over all the grades/comments/inquiries over 2-3 weeks of 18-hour days to create their board. Board is not driven by a need

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Cerrato: They had Derrick Dockery as a late 1st rounder

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:09 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Cerrato: We didn't need Dockery when we drafted him (really?), but he was there and based on our grade he stuck out like a sore thumb

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:15 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Cerrato: 19 first round grades last year, so at #21 Plan A for us was to trade back

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:16 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Cerrato: The last few days before the draft every team is calling everyone to be prepared for any scenario on draft day (trade up or trade down)

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:17 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder: Zorn is the head coach, his grade counts above (above who or what, I don't know)

Zorn: I'm not bashful about expressing my opinion

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:18 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Zorn: We're always considering a QB, I think you have to draft one every year (interesting)

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:19 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder: Zorn saw Colt in the 6th round as a QB he wanted to take to develop

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:20 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder: Gibbs and I are very close, and meet regularly. His philosophy remains that the core starts with we're looking with players of character who have a passion for the game

We got a RT?

SmootSmack 04-24-2009 05:23 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder: Comfortable at LT, Samuels is still young, outstanding center (Tripp is crying), looking to address right side still (not guard though, because they spoke highly of Thomas)

Snyder/Cerrato: Signed an OT today. Name isn't on the contract so they won't say his name

Zorn: Thomas/Kelly/Davis-We gave up pleasant pleasures for future benefits with those three guys

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Zorn: There will be guys in the first round that will contribute immediately and then there will be guys that you expected to contribute that won't even see the field (Brady Quinn and Matt Leinart cited as examples).

Dan Snyder doesn't know the age of Randy Thomas (thought he was 30 or 31. He's really 33).

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Zorn: I'm much more confident going into this draft. Excited about off season program. Fred Davis is a very powerful human being. Anyone watching him will be impressed with some of the things he can do. He'll be on the field this year.

Dirtbag59 04-24-2009 05:31 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Zorn: Devin Thomas will not have hamstring problems this year. Working hard, working with all three QB's. Working real hard.

Coming up, evaluations of all three QB's.

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Zorn on Colt: He's got his body right. Offseason surgery this year. So he has rehabed much more ready to take on the rigors of NFL season. His arm actually increased in strength and ball speed. He's turning it on. His season is really wrapped up into the preseason games. He's going to see a lot of times this preseason. Won't unseat Jason Campbell but he sounds confident that he could be the #2 QB.

Guys are excited about the second year in the WCO.

Dirtbag59 04-24-2009 05:41 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Zorn: I don't keep much hidden from those guys. They're going to look at the draft as trying to help us improve our football team. Theres no alterior motives. There will be another QB. I don't know where he's going to come from. Theres going to be another guy throwing the ball in mini-camp and training camp. Could be some good free agents that aren't drafted that could contribute.

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder on Dinner: One of the things we want to do is get to know them as people. How they are in an enviornment with coaches and players. Most of these dinners have two or three other players (not sure if they're prospects or Redskins).

Dirtbag59 04-24-2009 05:43 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Vinny: Couple of occasions where guys will leave after they're pre-draft visits and they'll say "no way thats not a Redskins guy"

Dirtbag59 04-24-2009 05:44 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Vinny: If we're stuck at 13 we will get a player that can come in and start.

Dirtbag59 04-24-2009 05:45 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder: We're not going to be trading next years 1. We're not comfortable trading 1st round draft picks.

Dirtbag59 04-24-2009 05:46 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Vinny: Immediate help needed at OL, DL, and LB

Dirtbag59 04-24-2009 05:47 PM

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Snyder: Always willing to trade up as well as stay put and trade down. First goal is make the playoffs, win the division, make the Super Bowl.

Thanks guys for posting this!! I can't hear so I never hear anything on the radio..

Interesting; Vinny said that we have needs at OL, DL, and LB.. And yet we are looking to draft Sanchez? At least good news, Vinny (or Danny?) said that they aren't comfortable with trading next year 1st rd..

But once again, they were willing to give up this year and next year 1st rd for Cutler..

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

It sounded to me that Snyder seems fine with the O-line as it is. He subtracted a few years from Randy Thomas's life though. He also said that Rabach was an [ahem] outstanding center.

In response to not following conventional wisdom when it comes to building football teams (i.e. draft vs. aggressive free agency), he said that the criticism is because they're not winning with this strategy. Interesting though, because I didn't get the impression that he was changing anything in that regard.

I didn't hear this in the interview, but I'll bet they believe their pass rush has been repaired with the addition of Haynesworth.

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

Maybe he tried to say "stands out".

It's troubling that 32 year old Samuels is considered young, considering he's 4 yrs above the average age for an NFL player, but I guess now that we've replaced Kendall, we don't have any holes on the OL anymore. We're relying on voodoo magic techniques to get us through next year.

Exactly. Early in the interview, Snyder justified the situation of Chris Samuels' age by mentioning the Cowboys starting left tackle who is 4 years older.

It just seemed that Snyder went starter by starter along the O-line, saying this player is great, that player is great, and that RandyThomas is really only 30 or 31. He did single out right tackle as an area that needs to be addressed. Apparently to him, depth or the ability to groom replacements for Samuels, Thomas, Rabach, and Jansen just isn't a priority.

Re: Running Transcript of Doc's Interview with Snyder, Cerrato, and Zorn

I think Samuels is still a top tackle in the NFL. People have to remember that he is asked to take on the opposing teams best pass rusher one on one w/out help. He's going to get beat and when he does people around here seem to think he's not good anymore. They've just got to start drafting some young guys, groom them and have them ready to play when one of the old guys go down. Instead they sign journey men.

I listened to the whole thing, and that cracked me up. My girlfriend and I were in the car together, and we simultaneously starting laughing out loud when he said that. "That's always going to be a criticism until you start winning." Really you little friggin idiot?? Could it be that after a decade of NOT winning it may be time to rethink your strategies??

I've asked this before, and I'll ask it again (maybe Tripp can help answer): Why on earth is it so evident to so many people that Rabach is severely lacking, yet inside the Skins organization they are not just satisfied with him, they actually think he's very good?? This baffles me. I think it's pretty obvious he stinks.

He turns 32 right at the start of training camp. Maybe the word "young" wasn't correct, but I think he's got another 2, maybe 3 seasons of high level play in front of him. Maybe 4 if we move him to RT after '10.
