We have the power?
As one of the many many many people who would be absolutely disgusted if we shipped off a bunch of draft picks, left all our holes open, and moved up and took Sanchez, I think there's one thing we can do.
It might not have any effect, but if thousands of us disgruntled fans do it, maybe it will. Write massive quantities of complaint letters to the Redskins FO. I'm prepared to make the template and send it out to everyone if needed. Who is with me!? |
Re: We have the power?
Huh!?
|
Re: We have the power?
How about starting another meaningless petition?
And what is this going to accomplish exactly?? |
Re: We have the power?
Actually I think the most effective approach would be protest...local fans taking their signs to Redskins Park and picketing would be awesome :)

You're not gonna make me change it are you? :) |
Re: We have the power?
Here's a way to get the Skins attention, stop watching the games, stop buying the swag, stop paying attention to the team altogether. When its hits them in the wallet they will notice and react but as long as the fans keep lapping up what they are selling like hungry dogs the FO couldnt care less what the fans think.

Re: We have the power?
I'd be disappointed with a front office that just did what the fans wanted. Fans are emotional, irrational, often stupid. It's the job of the front office to do what's best for the team even if it's unpopular or not what the fans want. The best front offices don't spend their time preoccupied with what the fans want. Case in point, the Eagles and Brian Dawkins.

If the Skins were to trade up to take a QB, or to trade our 1st and 3rd for Boldin, or whatever other crazy scheme we've all convinced ourselves the FO is planning, we need a voice of reason that can kick Snyerrato in the junk, figuratively, and make them realize the hole that they seem to be digging by ignoring the lines.
Yes the fans can be very irrational and stupid, but is that any different from how Snyder runs the team? |
Re: We have the power?
I do believe the fans prevented Jim Fassel from being coach of the Redskins. So in that respect I guess hooting and hollering can make a difference in certain decisions if it involves the vast majority of redskins fans. However, I don't believe that would carry over to actual personnel decisions...if the redskins believe Sanchez is a franchise QB they will get him regardless of what we think. And that is how it should be.

In 30 years of following the redskins I can never remember the redskins fans so collectively opposed to any one decision. They had to know that and be taken aback by it. That wasn't the normal some like some hate it decision....that was like 99% angry disapproval from their paying customers. |

No I think Fassel and Cerrato's general dislike of each other played a much bigger role. They just couldn't agree on a model to work together. Personally, I wasn't one of those against Fassel. I thought he would have been the right coach with Zorn as the OC. |

Look at Robert Kraft: he's a former pats season ticket holder but he seems to let his football people make the football decisions. In this situation a more rational football mind would say the team has so many more important holes to fill that trading up to get a project QB who could eventually be great isn't worth it. The problem is that Snyder seems to think "well, we were 8-8 last year, so with a new stud QB we could make it to the Super Bowl." That's illogical. |
Re: We have the power?
I saw Ozzie Newsome being asked about trading for Boldin and got a good insight into the way this man thinks. On giving up multiple picks for an established player, he basically said, with a first round pick you're getting a player in his prime for a very low price. When you trade for a marque player, you're not only giving up the picks, but an awful lot of money to the player which because of the cap, restricts you from fulfilling other needs. I've always admired Ozzie. Watch and learn Danny/Vinny.

I didn't know about the Fassel Vinny dislike angle. Then if that's true I guess Fassel was never as close to getting the job as the media lead us to believe. |

No, he had a good shot because he and Snyder like each other and Fassel was/is really eager to be an NFL head coach again that he thought he could deal with it. But at the end of the day, Snyder had already decided Cerrato was his top executive and Fassel didn't want to answer to anyone but the owner. But that's not how Snyder had structured it. |

I think the fans' influence on Fassel has been blown out of proportion
I agree from beginning to end. To think that the fans influenced Danny regarding the Fassel decision presumes that Danny listens clearly to others. I have seen little evidence of this. Danny may seek advice from others but in the final analysis seems to listen only to himself. |

Synder is very wealthy and he made his money by doing it his way. He also thinks he can win a Super Bowl the same way by doing it his way. Hard heads dont learn right away, this may take quite some time for him to learn this. I hope to think the front office knows more than us Redskins fans considering they make thousands of dollars more than us. We spend time doing this for the love of our team. Hummm who is really the smart one. Well for me i got all the time in the world cause i'm at working typing these threads. Hail |

You are so right about that. He should let the professionals run personnel. I may be in the minority, but I think that Vinny and his staff are capable of building this team into a perennial contender if allowed to do so without the handicaps of having fewer draft picks and less salary cap room because of Snyder's penchant for signing famous players. |

I'm with you on this. Synder has the itch for getting high profile players (Haynesworth, Sanders, etc) and thinks this is fantasy football. We all know this Sanchez deal (if it happens) is 100% Synder and no one else. Unfortonetly Vinny always gets charged with guilt by association, but Synder is the Real GM, and Vinny's the scapegoat. |
Re: We have the power?
F'ing Sanchez? The guy coach Pete Carroll said he's not ready for the NFL? It doesn't make sense at all.

Yes, I think Vinny is the scapegoat for many fans. My biggest criticism of Vinny is that I'd like to see him take a stronger position in favor of the draft. Whenever Danny sees something shiny in the display window of another NFL team, maybe Vinny could point out to Danny that Andre Smith is shiny and he has boobs, too! |
