Intriguing Prospect
Considering the apparent lack of faith Snyder has in Campbell...Let's say that Stafford actually fell out of the top ten to number thirteen. Do you guys think that he would be a good idea, in spite of all the current holes we have on our offensive line and at linebacker?

Re: Intriguing Prospect
No.
And I think the chances of Stafford dropping to 13 are next to zero. ProFootballTalk.com - Stafford Telling Teammates He’ll Be A Lion |
Re: Intriguing Prospect
I have seen alot of mocks that have us taking Sanchez. Personally, I think JC can get it done. He isn't going to be the next Marino, but I think he can make plays and help us win. Taking a QB, other than to trade him, would be a mistake. But as trade bait to another team, that would be a different story. Maybe we can leverage him for picks???
|
Re: Intriguing Prospect
He will not fall that far too us but I would think that Sanchez is the better fit for us since he has the experience in the west coast offense like the one Zorn runs. Fred Davis already has stated that this offense resembles the one that the Trojans ran. I have a strange feeling that we will move up in the draft and take Orakpo, Jason Smith, Eugene Monroe or Aaron Curry. When teams want to move out of the top 10 and we have been on record that we like those players. It does sound like a pretty good idea.

Re: Intriguing Prospect
He won't and NO!
We do not need to waste a draft pick on a QB this year! Don't we already have a young QB waiting for a shot......? Or if he really happens to be a hybrid player that can really play Tackle, Linebacker, or maybe DE heck why not...... |

Re: Intriguing Prospect
What are the odds he falls all the way down to 13 even if the Lions do pass on him?
I'm not going to "overmoderate" but I would say that "Intriguing Prospect" is kind of a vague thread title (I actually thought this was going to be about some small school, no-name that we should keep an eye on). Also, draft threads belong in the NFL Draft Central forum |

No, I dont see him developing into a quarterback even to the level of Jason Campbell. He certainly wouldn't start for us this year, and I question his decision making on the Field. He apears to me to be another Jamarcus Russell. From all the games I watched him over the last two seasons,(I live in the heart of SEC country), He typicly relies on his arm stregnth and doesn't make very good reads. I see him going top ten in the draft and never developing into a starter in the NFL. |

If Redskins did that, I would understand.. Even though I would prefer to stay pat with our #13 or trade down.. But if we re going up for one of those players (except for Orakpo, who I'm not big fan of), I would not protest against that but I believe it would ruin our chance to draft two immediately starters (OT and LB).. To answer the question; No, if Stafford falls to us, we should not draft him (just like with Sanchez).. |

Just curious, for what logical reason do you think it would be a SMART move for the SKINS to draft another QB this year? With the true NEEDS on the O-line and Defense. How would you justify drafting another QB now? I'm not answering for anyone else but Brady for Campbell...come on dude that's only common sense. My point of view there are MANY QB's I would like to have over JC. But as it appears he has one more year to get it done, and that's the end of the line for him in DC if it is not a VERY SPECIAL SEASON! |

Huh? There are definitely better QBs out there than Campbell. I slurp Jason a lot less than several people around here. I think he's a solid NFL starter and he's going to get better. But using the 13th pick on a QB or trading multiple 1st rounders for Jay Cutler is a poor allocation of resources in light of the QB we already have. And really, why even ask about Brady for Campbell? |

I personally like the situation Campell is in this year: his last year under contract, he must perform well in order to insure a contract/starting job here or elsewhere. I truly believe that Campbell will have a better team around him this year year than last, with the familiarity the team and coaches will have and upgrades in personel. With all of these motivating factors behind J. Cambell, he will either rise to the top or fade into mediocrity... I hope for his wild success, it would be good for Redskin nation! |
Re: Intriguing Prospect
I have no interest in Matt Stafford, nor Mark Sanchez for that matter. If we give Jason Campbell a stronger line to protect him in the passing game, and if any of the young receivers drafted last year begin approaching the game as professionals, then Campbell and the offense will thrive, mark those words. I want the pick at #13 to be Andre Smith or Oher. Our defense is good enough to win, even with a lawn chair at SLB. The FO has failed Campbell - can we just let the kid stay in the same system for more than 2 years, and see what he develops into? Is that asking too much?

I think if either of the QB's (Sanchez or Stafford OR Josh Freeman) we shoudl either take them and try to trade them ASAP for picks in THIS draft OR just pass and fill or sick needs at LB, DE, and OT. |

And you actually think that mock from Kiper NOW means something..? Not hardly! Last time I checked he has no affiliation with the Redskins! If we keep our position in the 1st and 3rd rounds there will be NO QB drafted by the SKINS. |

If we keep our position in the 1st and 3rd rounds there will be NO QB drafted by the SKINS.
Mike, I actually do think that Kiper's mock may mean something. Let me explain; 1) Kiper is getting info, 1st or 2nd hand, about each team's draft meetings. With all the access to reporters at espn (and especially to Smootsmack!) he's basing his mock on reports from the teams through inside sources. 2) Teams always try to send smoke screens & my HOPE is that we're getting the word out that we want Sanchez. Thus, if he falls to 13, Vinny can tell teams, "we really want this kid, it's gonna take a great offer for us to trade back." On the other hand, we've become so used to the Skins biz leaking out early. So often a report from an unamed source becomes reality. I hope that is not the case, as I really don't want them to draft Sanchez. |
Re: Intriguing Prospect
No matter if we take Sanchez or even had Brady, we need a stronger O-line to protect whomever is calling the signals to allow time to execute the play effectively. I believe the best interest for the Redskin organization will be to take a OT in the first round should one fall to 13th. In the 3rd round, take a linebacker to groom. In the later rounds, we can look to pick up a DE to bring along. We have signed tendered players that will suffice in an already strong defense. Many of those players will thrive with the additon of Haynesworth commanding extra attention in the middle of the line. The only other scenario worth mentioning is if the Redskins trade picks (this years first and next years first) to jump up to the top of the draft to acquire Orakpo and try to pick up a backup OT later to supplement Jansen/Heyer. This would be a gamble, though. Your not always going to find a diamond in the rough like we did with Horton.

Re: Intriguing Prospect
Teams generally aren't going to tell MK sh**. Unless maybe it's the first pick or second..maybe. It's smoke screen time for GM's.

Funny how the Redskins are meeting with Maualuga and no one has made a comment about it (I was expecting a whole new thread). Oh well, I thought I would bring it here to derail the QB talks.

Re: Intriguing Prospect
Meeting with people is simply due diligence. If nothing else, you have a file of your original thoughts on a kid, his personality, etc when they become a free agent. Which under the lack of a CBA -- won't really happen much... at all.
