Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I wonder if TBMODIV had anything to do with this
|
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Woah. That's a shocker. Kind of dumb to wait so long after the end of the regular season.
That team will be totally different next year, and probably pretty awful. No Monte Kiffin (their defense mailed it in for a month straight as soon as he announced he was bolting for Univ. of Tennessee to work with his son), no Gruden, Garcia could be gone, Derrick Brooks is nearing the end... Now, if they bring in Mike Shanahan as GM/head coach and are willing to spend a big portion of the $40M+ worth of cap room they have, it could be quite interesting. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I bet Dan Synder is breaking out in hives with all the big name coaches avaliable. I'm wondering if someone is in his office holding him away from his phone so he won't call in Jim Zorn and fire him. LOL

He already did that last year. Z is there because everyone else laughed in Danny's face. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Very surprised.
|
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Wow, Chucky is gone. I wonder what he will do now? Become a coordinator??
|
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Coach the Raiders?
|
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I hope that Tampa blows up. I've hated them for a long time.

Oakland fans would be thrilled about that. Bill Callahan took Gruden's Raider team to the Super Bowl that, ironically, Gruden won with a Tampa Bay team that had Tony Dungy written all over it. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
That's very surprising but in today's NFL does it really shock anyone? If Shanahan can get fired then no one is safe. I think the loss to Oakland sealed his fate. I really don't like Gruden's version of the west coast offense so I hope he doesn't come here. Too much dinking and dunking and god knows we already do enough of that here.

Hey, Joey Galloway and Antonio Bryant have caught more deep balls for the Bucs the past few years than anyone has for the Redskins. Gruden for OC! Just kidding. Kind of. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Gruden for OC sounds really good to me.
|
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
WOW I didn't see that or Shanahan, and I sure expected Wade Phillips gone. (and kinda Norv too.) Gruden seemed like a solid coach, the Rams should try and get him.
|

..would be huge for that franchise right now. I could see it already. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I bet they go after Shanahan or they promote Raheem Morris.
|
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I never thought Gruden was all that impressive as a coach. The only thing he did was lead a team built by Dungy to the superbowl, since then he hasn't done much of anything.
|
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
That's too bad for Bruce (George's son), but I've never been impressed with Chucky.

NFL Fanhouse already reports Bux hire Raheem Morris. NFL FanHouse |

LOL. That is a shocker though. They should have beat the Raiders in Week 17. I figured they must have had a big name lined up to take over as coach/GM, Pete Carroll for example. But I guess not. I guess it was time for a change though. Bruce Allen was never all that impressive, and everyone around here always talks about how hated Gruden is. I'll bet other teams that were looking for coaches sort of wished they had the opportunity to interview Gruden though. |

That was quick! |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I just read that the Cowgirls fired their DC Brian Stewart after 2 seasons. I mention it here because I doubt it's threadworthy.

Since that SB run TB hasn't even won a playoff game. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Wow, now this is a surprise. Wasn't Bruce Allen the GM everyone wanted not too long ago?
|

Yeah, but remember in that SuperBowl they beat a Raider team that Gruden started building when he was hired in his early 30's, at the time the youngest HC in NFL history. So Gruden beat a team he built with a team someone else built. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Woahsers!! Didn't see that coming. I think TB's lack of success is more to do with Allen tahn Gruden but then again I am not too sure who had the juice there personell wise.

Sounds like Dallas is about to explode their staff. There are reports that their OC Garrett is getting the Rams job,(SportingNews.com - Your expert source for NFL Football stats, scores, standings, blogs and fantasy news from NFL Football columnists and I saw talk that Phillips may take their D over and give up the head coach job. (please note this part is all just speculation and I have no sources worth quoting) |

It sounds like your agreeing with me.
I agree that he won a SuperBowl with a team Dungy built. But to say he hasn't done much else is inaccurate. He built a helluva team in Oakland before he left. Bill Callahan has proven he's a piss poor head coach more than once- the way he effed up Oakland shortly after their SuperBowl appearance and the train wreck in Nebraska. While Gruden may have hoisted a Lombardi Trophy with a team another man built, he still had fingerprints all over the AFC Champion that year. Actually, to do what he did in Oakland at such a young age despite Al Davis is pretty impressive IMO. |

Phillips is actually a decent DC, I think Jones sees that as his strength. I'd be a little surprised if he'd take a demotion though. It's a strange world in Cowgirl Land. |

Then shouldn't the Colts be calling Gruden any day now? LOL. To Pick up where Dungy left off. Again. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I don't have a problem with Gruden. No he's not the team builder you want but he definitly can lead a team. He definitly can motivate a team. For those reasons I have no problem with him.
and since I have not seen it anywhere......sign him up....OC. lol. JK. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
I hope people aren't serious in suggesting that Gruden would even consider going back to Oakland.

Never say never. Given enough money, safeguards against Al Davis and a level of control he could go back. |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
LOL how do you safeguard against Davis? Until the guy is dead and gone he will have his hands all over that team. Gruden would be insane to go back, especially when there are going plenty of other teams interested in him. Worst case he sits out a year and comes back next year.
|

What about JJ out in Dallas. I wonder if he would consider Gruden? I know he stated his staff is in place but he's already going back on that. |

Well Chucky did do a good job with headcases like Keyshawn and Warren Sapp. The question is would Gruden wan to go to that mess that is the Dallas Cowpukes |
Re: Bucs fire Coach Jon Gruden and GM Bruce Allen
Wow, just...wow. Wish he could come here but with our front office and ownership, we know that's never going to happen.
He's a damn good motivator but also a stubborn bastard as evidenced by his refusal to start Garcia and only doing so when he had no other choice. He might have had only one appearance at the Super Bowl but he had the Bucs in contention each and every year. |

We have a HC in Zorn. If Gruden's the answer, then the Bucs should keep him. We've had better coaches than Gruden. It's not the answer. IMO. |
