My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
I am serously concerned about this team and I am starting to get the feeling after today's game that the skins will be 8-8 and miss the post season. Why do I feel like this? Well the Offense is simply abismal in the redzone. The Defense is starting show wear and tear (especially against the stretch run). Lastly the play calling is seriously lacking and Campbell is reverting to his old ways.
I'm afraid that when this team faces a top tier defense, its gonna lose. We struggle against marginal teams (Seahawks, Browns, Rams, and Lions). I feel we have the talent to beat any team in the NFL, but I don't know whats the problem. My Questions: why can't Davis seem to find his way on the field vs. Yoder? Is there a rule that no more than 1 rookie can be on the field on offense at a time on our team? Why is Campbell still force feeding double covered targets? Does our line seem to get beat way too much in pass coverage? Lastly why does this offense still look the same as last years, and why are people actin like Mike Sellers as a target is something new? Gibbs used him alot! Do we just have too many weapons, they don't know how to utilize them all. If we face the Giants like we played the Seahawks we will get beat. Please warpath ease my fears? Am I trippin, or am I justified in worrying? |
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
I have to say,I agree with some of your postings. The lack of progress with our rookies seems interesting. Look at Keller for the Jets, he is having a great season. I think the whole issue with our team this year is the line. Doesn't matter which one, they both were grossly over estimated going into the season. We get no pressure on D and the offensive line is struggling mightily. We should have used one of those 2nd round picks on a lineman. Going back to the Jets they have built one of the best lines in the NFL in only a few years. Zorn is a good coach and good guy and he is beginning to understand this I believe. He is calling plays that keep Campbell from being drilled on a consistent basis. Campbell should buy CP a new rolex though, that is for sure!

Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
There are three things we did against the Seahawks that are apparently being overlooked. And if we do those three, we can beat the Giants next week. We moved the ball with a powerful running game, we got turnovers, and we play disciplined football with only two penalties...and we won.
|
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
Why haven't we seen one of those big rookies on a drag route and try to get YAC, Isn't that the West Coast Offense?

Yep. But I don't know if these three things alone will be enough to take us to the playoffs. At some point the entire offense has to break out and that seems more possible after seeing Kelly on the field. I thought Kelly [sic] looked very comfortable out there - my gut tells me he is smarter than Thomas and will be more productive over the final 5 games. Anyway, if Zorn continues to utilize big Mike here and there to keep defenses guessing and Kelly finds his mojo we have 2 legitimate new threats for this home stretch. May be enough to give us a shot @ January. |
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
The Running game did look very good, don't get me wrong. I like what we did, But the Giants defensive line can focus on rushing the passer and stopping portis I can't see the game going good for us. You can tell our Dline is hurt up front right now. Its been a long time since I've seen us give up running plays like we've given the past 2 weeks, and the Giants are the Number 1 rushing team. We have to be not just balanced in the run to pass ratio, but also the type of pass plays that we run.

Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
We still play Cincinatti, Philly, and SF. Thats atleast ten wins.:laughing2

Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
ur right WALDSKINS that does make me feel a little better... I just want to win this game against the giants BADD.

ten may not be enough this year...

We've also seen Sellers more involved with the offense the last couple of weeks. We knew he could do it, now it appears Zorn knows it too. Kelly is getting involved in the offense and we took some deep shots today. The o-line played better today and Springs is back on defense. All these things are good signs to me. The Giants are not unbeatable. I hope they think they are. They are an excellent team but they have been beaten. They're not undefeated. The way Portis is running right now and Kelly getting on the field make us more competitive than the first time we played them. Will it be easy? No. Can it be done? Yes. |

Look @ the remaining schedule for Tampa and Carolina... 10 wins may not get us in the playoffs this year. Both teams are now 8 and 3. I believe Tampa will take the division w/ 11 or even 12 wins because the Bucs have an easier schedule. Carolina plays the Pack, Tampa, Denver, Giants, and the Saints. They win at least 2 more games and possibly 3, so we may be facing a tiebreaker there. Meanwhile, I believe Dallas only wins two more games this season. They face Seattle, Pitt, Giants, Ravens and Philly. Obviously they have an easy win on turkey day against Seattle. But I think they'll lose the following three games and get a win over philly to go 9-7. If they played Baltimore after Seattle I'd give em the win but after getting the shit beat out of them in Pitt and then getting stomped in Dallas by NY I think Owens will lose it and the team will blow up. |

Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
Kelly looked good but the 5-10 yrd passes have got to stop. I know it's the WCO but Zorn also said passing would be our bread and butter and that we would be a scoring machine. Then said we would have to utilize the run until the pass got in to full gear.
Kelly and JC need to get on page with the fade. It looked horrible. Kelly kept running himself out of bounds and JC kept leading him there. I would like for once if they would use Kelly for medium range and Thomas for the long go route then use Moss in the slant formation. step back pump fake to Moss making the D think the quick slant is coming and pass long to either Thomas or Kelly. |
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
This is Kellys first real action of his rookie season. Relaxxxxx

Don't forget ATL they are right with us at 7-4 we can't afford to fall behind in the playoff hunt were sitting at the 6th seed now. |

ATL has the Chargers, Saints, Bucs, Viking and Rams. I'll be very surprised if they win 3 of those games, but you're still right we need to get out in front somehow. And anyway if we don't win a week from today I think it's pretty much over. |

The defense was playing with a few hurt lineman yesterday, and Alexander was playing most of the time so i would go by that too much. Our D is top 5 in the NFL. We have 4 picks the last two games and generated some pressure yesterday with some blitzes. I wouldn't worry about the defense. They have played extremely well all season. As far as Fred Davis...apparently he doesn't know what to do and when to do it. Zorn is not going to play him if he isn't 100% mentally ready. Yoder is a fairly decent blocker. We are 7-4, I dont see why everyone is so down. Would any of you have thought we would be 7-4 right now, honestly...with a new Head coach..a rooking head coach at that. Who would have thought Campbell would be playing the way he is playing. I think he has been playing very very good. He isn't forcing balls that I can see. I see the exact opposite, not taking chances like some other QB's in the league do. I think we are definately moving in the right direction. The offense is new to everyone, Zorn tried to keep most of the running the same because that is what the Oline is built to do. Sign of a good coach if you asked me. people just need to relax. we are a decent football team, not great, probably not really good, but we are good enough to make the playoffs. And a team that can run the ball like we can, and play defense like we can, can cause trouble in the playoffs. |
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
Going by this thread you would think the Skins lost yesterday. Just saying.
|
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
The Skins won yesterday and that's a good thing. The team is 7-4 right now, which is better than they were at this point in 2005 or 2007. So there is some definite good news to report.
On the other hand, the offense continues to under-perform and I'm starting to worry about the kicking and punting game. The way the team has played for the last month, there isn't much reason to believe they are going to beat the Giants this Sunday. Of course, that's usually why they call it an upset. |

The Giants arent the Seahawks. |
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
For me, I was just pleased we could actually put Suisham in position for some easier field goal tries. I've been saying the past few weeks now it seems like we stall around the 35-40 yard line of the other team. We can move the ball at will and then stall in that area. It gave me a great deal of hope we could at least do that.
While some of the Campbell runs were money, I don't know how I feel about actual PLAYCALLS involving him running. He's big and strong, but the last thing I wanna' see is Campbell going down because of a called QB run. |
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
Look, the Skins are going to have to play their best game of the year to beat the Giants. Unless the G-men really lay an egg this Sunday [not likely], the Redskins will have to play better than they have all season. Can they do it? We'll, they should be healthy enough to do it. Of course, it might just be that our best simply isn't good enough against the Giants this year. That happens.
|
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
The biggest task will be stopping the run. If we force them to throw I think we win. Our secondary is arguably the best in the league.
|
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
The problem I have with Jim Zorn is his playcalling on third down. Several 3rd and 3 situations in the first half, Zorn elected to pass and was unsuccessful and led to several three and outs. It is frustrating to watch a team that has the best running back in the league on the sidelines on third down. Any defense that has studied our offense knows that were throwing the ball to Santana Moss. Zorn has to change his playcalling quick fast and in a hurry if we are to make it to the playoffs, because the Giants are showing the league how to score points with a running game and passing attack. Lets hope Zorn really adds some more aggressive plays down field and hopefully the OL protects JC.

LOL . . . The Skins offense barely resembles a WCO!! What happened to the 3-step drops to offset the pass rush?? I think Zorn feels that in order for Campbell to play his best he needs a second or two more to make a decision of where to go with the ball. Hopefully another off-season with Zorn and Campbell can take his play to the next level. |

Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
Teams are in the league to win the Superbowl, not to get to the playoff and fade away. We Won... so what! we should have won, we have to see ourselves as a good team, a championship caliber team and act like it. If you told me to look at the Giants roster or the Titans roster, I would tell you neither is a championship team or a good team. But they win... why because they have high exspectations. We have to raise our level of play in my opinion. We have too much talent to be strugglin like we are.

one more thing I sorry but I don't buy that Davis, a college educated Mackey Award winnig tightend, who has been in a the pro-offense his whole college career. Played football his whole life can't get this offense. I think we have a Vet- preffered coach.

How did NY win the SB? They have people on their front 7 that can dominate. They can get after the QB with 4 guys. We can't do that. They have a better O-line. They have more playmakers on offense. Like him or not when Burress feels like playing, he's one of the top wr's in the NFL. He can take over a game. We don't have anyone at the wr position that can do that. Tenn hasn't won anyhting yet so I'm not crowning them. But I will say they have guys on their D-line and front 7 that dominate. We don't have a player like Hansworth. |

I agree with you. We need to get him on the field more. If he can't get the playbook then the coaches need to do a better job explaining the shit to him. That's on the coaches as much as it is on Davis. |
Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
We don't have a O lin or a D lin. Our QB is average at best. WR's would be 2nd and 3rd if even playing for other teams. Our special teams is not very special and our D backs are getting exposed. The only player on this team that is worth a dam is Clinton Portis. By the time we get all the other player we need CP will be slowing down and near retiring. We also need to revamp our coaching staff and we will never make it to a SB as long as Snyder owns this team.

I too am glad to see Sellers more involved. If Kelly can step up and be the bigtime red zone threat, we may make some noise against the G-men. The DBs cannot drop 4 INTs as they did in the first meeting in NY. Lastly, it's put up or shut up time for Jason Taylor to make a contribution, starting this Sunday. He could be an X-factor if he can get in Eli's face.

Re: My soapbox rant Skins Frustrations!
Reading some of these posts, you would think the Redskins had just lost and the playoffs are in jeopardy. Chill Out! Being a Redskins fan, you had better get used to sitting on the edge of your chair. It's a rollercoaster ride and hopefully when they let us off, the Skins will be in the playoffs. Then it's a new season. Anything can happen. Ask the Giants.
