5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

According to the Monday morning guys on ESPN 980, we need to go 11-5 or better to be assured a play off slot. What's your picks?

11/16 Dallas @ Washington W 31-14
11/23 Washington @ Seattle W 28-17
11/30 NYG @ Washington W 21-17
12/07 Washington @ Baltimore L 14-10
12/14 Washington @ Cincinnati W 31-7
12/21 Philadelphia @ Washington W 24-17
12/28 Washington @ San Francisco W 34-14

I think saying we're going to beat NYG is pretty optimistic. I don't have a big problem with your other predictions, but I wouldn't make the margin of victory so great by any means. All of our victories so far this season have been by less than 10 points.

Giants, Ravens, Bengals, Eagles & 49er's. It wouldn't feel right if we didn't need to win our last 5 games to make the playoffs.

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

Wow. Going 5-2 the rest of the way? That will be quite a feat. We have three tough divisional games to play (although they are indeed all at home), and play a tough Ravens team on the road. The other three opponents are all ones we will be favored against, but those games are all on the road. And as we learned after the Rams-Browns-Lions trio of games, the Redskins essentially give ALL of their opponents a shot at winning. I think going 4-3 the rest of the way is far more realistic.

If we do manage to win 5 of the last 7, however, you have to guess that three of the wins would come against the Bengals, Seahawks and 49ers, with a 2-2 split between the Cowboys, Giants, Eagles and Ravens. I would guess that the Cowboys and Eagles games are the ones we'd win.

Have to agree.
Not to mention The Giants had 17pts by the end of the 1st quarter last night against Philly. And went on to win with 36pts! The closest we've come to that was 29pts in week 2 against the Saints. Lol
Our offense is going to have to be firing on all cylinders and still have a few breaks go our way if we plan to beat them.

Call me what you want i'm a little concerned over the way we've been playing. I'm looking to see is we can step it up this week. JC has got to step it up this week and make some plays. I don't think there are any "gimmees" w/ this team.

I think we'll win this week.

we need to end up 11-5 just to make the playoffs? geezus christ that would be tough. arent we in a good positon to win the tie-breakers against teams like the boys and iggles so that 10-6 would get us in?

that means we HAVE TO handle our business against seattle (who i would love to destroy for the past 2 playoff losses and zorns return), cincy and 49ers (who is not a gimme game) . . . . this is going to be tough if 11-5 is the true mark. meaningful football at the end of the season is all we can ask for.

Its going to be almost impossible for a 10-6 team to make the NFC wildcard spot. Both the NFC South and East are too deep.

That's finishing 5-2. I really think we can play better than the Giants. But we struggle against teams that are good at stopping the run, ie Baltimore. I don't feel the Flacco is going to have a good week against us. Hall returns a punt for td in that game.

we better beat dallas

I don't think we'll travel well to the west coast... we never really have... and the weather will probably be a factor, so i'll give the hawks that game. baltimore is tough as crap and playing excellent football in every aspect right now. baltimore with a potent offense is scary as hell...

NY is also a great team, but is the loss I think we have the best chance at getting a surprise W. Expectations have a lot to do with it.

going to cincy, our guys will vent some frustrations, then decide it feels good to score points and our rookie recievers will play a much bigger role by the years end... opening up our offense more and we will score points.

philly will come in and look anemic. their D will hold us to several field goals, though..... then SF comes in and gets routed as we try to will ourselves into the wildcard spot with 10 wins.

Not necessarily with the Panthers and the Falcons both sitting at 6-3 in the NFC South with soft schedules ahead.
Matt Ryan is looking like he's doing some great things. But I'm not fully sold on them quite yet. The Panthers however are solid and a team to be reckoned with.

We always seem to have a big losing streak followed by a big winning streak at the end of the year, and I think that trend will continue. 10-6 with the 6th seed in the playoffs.

I think we're only taking at most 4 of those games. No way do we finish 11-5 unless we make some big improvements on Offense. I see us losing to Baltimore, NYG and Dallas/PHI.

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

In the beginning of the season I had the skins going 11-5. The Giants are looking good sitting at 8-1 BUT has anyone looked at the Giants schedule?! The Giants are good but they are going to have to play some tough teams that I can realistically see them losing to. They also have 3 remaining NFC EAST games which just happen to be in a row starting with us. I know this is a big IF but what if the Skins and that Giants both end up having 11-5 records or identical records at the end of the season. What ya guys think?

Yes. The NFC South plays the joke AFC West. I fear NFC South teams get in even if we are better. 11-5 is much safer for making the playoffs than 10-6.

That said:
11/16 Dallas @ Washington W
11/23 Washington @ Seattle W
11/30 NYG @ Washington W (I think we get up for this one)
12/07 Washington @ Baltimore L
12/14 Washington @ Cincinnati W
12/21 Philadelphia @ Washington L
12/28 Washington @ San Francisco W

We finish 11-5, Giants finish 12-4 or 13-3.

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

I don't think the Redskins make the playoffs if they lose at home this week. I don't think Dallas makes it regardless, but I think Atlanta and/or Tampa will get to 11-5, and keep us out of the playoffs.

10-6 gets us in ONLY if we can finish second in the division. So if we lose to NYG, and Baltimore in consecutive weeks, but beat Philly, I think we still have a one game margin for error in the other 4 games (Cinci, SF, Sea, Dallas).

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm confident that a three game winning streak right now will allow us to win the NFC East. I don't see the Giants beating both Baltimore and Arizona in their next two games, I see them splitting those. If we can beat them, we will knot it up at 9-3. I also think they will lose to Philly OR Dallas in their last few games, so that would put them at 12-4 for the year.

We can hold that tiebreaker if we can will all three of our home division games. I believe Philly will be the toughest of those games.

If we don't go 3-0 the rest of November, I think we're playing for a wild card.

GTripp0012 11-10-2008 04:59 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

Objectively, I say we beat Dallas, Seattle, New York, then lose to Baltimore, beat Cinci, lose to Philly, and beat SF. 11-5 and a second place finish in the NFC East. That gives us the 5th seed in the playoffs and a likely trip to Chicago or Minnesota in the wild card round.

GTripp0012 11-10-2008 05:06 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

Undoubtedly, this is the most important three game stretch in recent memory for Redskins football. Yeah, we've done more impressive things just to make the playoffs, but this team has a chance to do some seriously great things by winning a tough division. Here's hoping.

Ruhskins 11-10-2008 05:07 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

If the Redskins don't blow the Cowpukes out of the waters (and I mean points, not stats), then we'll be a 6th seed at best or not make it to the playoffs at worst. We can't have this shitty up and down play from our team when teams are looking to distance themselves from the rest (NYG), trying to stay in the playoff race (Philly), and are desperate for a win (Cowpukes).

saden1 11-10-2008 06:37 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

We better f'ing beat Seattle! Going 5-2 is going to be tough but it's doable. I'm not really feeling too great about the Skins chances against Dallas this week or Giants in a few weeks. Here's how I see it:

11/16 Dallas @ Washington L -- I don't like playing against teams in a do-or-die mode.

11/23 Washington @ Seattle W -- If we can't beat them you can count on us laying an egg if we make the playoffs. Plus, I'm going to the game so it's more important than any other game they have played.

11/30 NYG @ Washington L -- Super Bowl Champs playing like Super Bowl Champs. I don't like playing their defense. I don't really care for their Offense but if we're not healthy in the secondary Eli is going to look like a SB MVP.

12/07 Washington @ Baltimore W -- Good defense, offensive offense. We should be able to squeak out a win.

12/14 Washington @ Cincinnati W -- They're not going to win 7 Games

12/21 Philadelphia @ Washington W -- Send a message to McNabb that says "you're not that good, certainly not good enough to beat the Redskins."

12/28 Washington @ San Francisco W -- Decent defense, they can't throw the ball to save their lives. Easy win.

i think jz made some adjustments over the buy and i think we can win 5 pretty easy. i think d hall will ad to the team week by week as ha gets adjusted. didnt agree with it at first but after the interviews today i think if london feels good we will be ok.

GTripp0012 11-10-2008 08:17 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

I'm aware we've done it before saden, but I don't like the odds of going 4-0 in December with Baltimore and Philly on the schedule. There's also no defense if a bunch of players on Cinci have the game of their lives or if Singletary gets SF turned around.

I have to think we will have to do better than 1-2 in the next three weeks to have a shot at 11-5.

saden1 11-10-2008 08:36 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

I believe this team plays better when there's something on the line but with the Redskins you never know. They might bulldoze the Cowboys and the Giants and lose the rest of the way. Honestly though, if they can't beat Cincy or the 49'ers this team doesn't deserve to go anywhere.

The Goat 11-10-2008 08:47 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

Dallas: If Moss and everyone on defense are healthy we win this game otherwise it's a loss.

Seattle: Portis or Betts will be healthy and the the line will look to reestablish itself. A Win.

NY: If we can get basically everyone healthy, including a resurgent Jason Taylor we can win this game.

Baltimore: A loss. The Ravens defense is punishing like Pitt and we just don't respond well offensively.

Cinci: A win.

Philly: A win because our defense will be way up for this one and shut the iggles down.

San Fran: A win.

If we lose to Dallas, NY, and Baltimore the wild card only comes to us by luck. 11-5 or 12-4 guarantee a wild card spot but not the division. Giants end up 13-3 or better.

cdskins26 11-11-2008 12:38 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

I think 4 is more likely, but realistically five could happen. I just want us to be 2-1 or 3-0 down the stretch division-wise, because that could be the difference of a playoff spot in this division. I think we beat everyone but baltimore and new york to finish 11-5.

SBXVII 11-11-2008 02:07 PM

Re: 5 is our playoff number? Pick em'

After last nights Cards/49er game I'm not sure the 49er game is a gimmie. but heres mine....
Dallas-W. A tough win. they need it more
Seatle-W. They have no WR's.
Eagles-W. They are not that good.
49ers- W. I think we can squeek this one.
Bungles-W. They are a mess. take out the WR's and they are screwed.

The questionable ones are Baltimore, which I think we can win but it will be tough, and the Giants, which we need to split the season with. If we are simply going for the Wild card then who cares but I'd like to beat them and call the NFC East a draw. Be even nicer if we could have another team steal a game from the Giants and have us take home field advantage. lol.

The poor Giants have ....

Baltimore
Arizona
Skins
Eagles
Dallas
Panthers
Vikes

I think the Giants start getting beat up a little and lose a few in the mix. I'm sure the Eagles the second time will want redemption. The Panthers will not lay down. Arizona plays hard and can put up points.and last but not least hopefully Baltimore starts off all the fireworks this weekend.
