Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Who's your MVP so far?
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Hard question. You can make a case for anyone of those guys listed. But if a gun was pointed to my head and I had to choose, I'd go with Fletcher. Our D has kept us in games, and really gets the O back on the field. Fletch has been the rock on that side of the ball. He has been absolutely outstanding
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
I say Portis because we are where we are thanks to the running game. The only question is how much is down to Portis himself and how much the line?
Otherwise I'd have voted for Campbell. Were it not for his fumbles, I'd consider him MVP. No INT's and no particularly poor games, notwithstanding those fumbles. However, by the end of the season (assuming they keep playing better), I think it may be the D that should get the MVP. |
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Portis no doubt about it
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Clinton Portis without a doubt. With the passing game still developing, Clinton has carried the load and up until now, no one has stopped him. I really hope he can get to 2000 yds, but it will be very difficult.

Quoted for Truth. Fletcher has been outstanding, and is the heart and soul of the 6th ranked defense in the NFL. Taking nothing from Portis or Campbell of course, but if Fletcher isn't out there busting his hump and leading this defense, Portis or Campbell don't get the ball as often. |
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Easy question. Portis is not only the Skins' MVP to this point, he would be MVP of the league if the season ended tomorrow.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
No question, it's Portis with an assist from the Offensive Line and JC.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
i am rooting for portis to break a huuuuge season open...but, i think we maybe have to give it to jc in respect for the way he has managed the games.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Clinton Portis is certianly the obvious choice and no doubt he's having an All-Pro season, but I think you have to give the MVP to London Fletcher the leader of our defense. Our defense has kept us in every game and has been the most consistent part of our team. When the offense is struggling our defense keeps the game managable enough to were we can win it. I think if our defense wasn't playing at the level they're now we're a 4-4 team. The defense's success all goes back to one man and that is London Fletcher and that's why he gets my vote for MVP.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
This is a team effort and some players have better stats than others etc. Portis wouldn't have the numbers he has if it wasn't for the OL paving the way, not taking anything away from CP. Too many contributors on both sides, Rogers, Fletcher, Horton, CP, Moss, Campbell. My vote goes to Joe Bugel and the OL for making things happen up front.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
gotta go with #26,but campbell is a close second.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
i love me some Portis. and the oline has been outstanding. but i cant imagine an nfl quarterback going a half of a season with no picks. just simply outstanding work
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Definitly Portis, almost at 1000yds and only halfway through the season.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
All the guys listed are deserving. Campbell- 0 interceptions and after the first game has really taken control of this offense. Plus he's running for first downs which has added another dimension to the offense. Portis has been on fire and helps us control the clock and keep the defense off the field. Moss has been huge in receptions, blocking and even punt returns. A real team player. Nobody expected Rogers to be a shutdown corner but he's been about as close to being one as you can get this year. And he's made some hellacious hits. Fletcher plays like a Mad Dog. He may have single-handedly saved a couple of games for us this year. I want to say Fletcher, but as important as ball control is, I would have to go with Portis.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
As it's been said, Portis can easily be league MVP, and Horton (if he keeps it up) can be Defensive Rookie of the Year.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
It's a no brainer when you have a player who leads the league in rushing, and the next-best out there is 260 yards behind him.
Portis. |
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Maybe once this year would I say Portis was the MVP of a certain game. However, given the varying play of the rest of the team over the season, Portis has been the biggest single reason that this team is 6-2, so he gets my vote.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Its gotta be CP. He is running hard and fast which is taking the pressure off JC to feel he need to win the game by himself.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
One of the biggest reasons that Campbell has yet to be picked off, is that at no point in the last seven games have the Redskins been in a must-throw situation. Think about that. An entire half-season, and at no point in those games did the Redskins have to abandon the run.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
I voted Campbell...why?
Well, at the beginning of the year, everyone knew Portis and our line should be good. What no one knew was how would Campbell do. Most predicted he would struggle early. Last year, Campbell was an Average QB. Everyone said the Skins season depended on his development.....well, he developed...nicely... He is now a GOOD QB, arguably on the edge of pro-bowl consideration. Why is Portis getting so many yards? many reasons...of course his ability, training and oline are huge....but....if there is no passing threat such as prior years with Brunell, early Campbell, etc., defenses key on him and keep him in check...ya know 8-9 in the box. Zorn and Campbell have done a good job in the passing game to keep defenses honest. This removes an extra defender against the run and THAT is a HUGE ADVANTAGE in the running game that we didn't have in prior years..... So, I say, Campbell is a big reason for Portis' success. Portis was good before, and he still is. But Campbell is vastly improved and the team rides on his shoulders. So I am taking the more controversial pick with Campbell. (though I can be easiliy swayed by all your excellent points on Portis) |
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
clinton portis defnitrly is so far but i am surprised that cooley wasn't mentioned.GO REDSKINS!
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Campbell is BY FAR the most valuable player on this team. He plays at the most demanding position, and he hasn't thrown an interception. That is far more valuable than what CP has done, IMO.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
TOUGH!!! It is a warrior like effort on several fronts.......but you cannot make the case anywhere else other than CP
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
From ESPN the Magazine
You want a midseason MVP? I'll take the guy on one knee. Clinton Portis does that often, you know. He rests every chance he gets. It has become a humorous point for his Washington Redskins teammates, who notice that during a fourth-quarter timeout or two-minute warning, Portis is down on bended knee, catching his breath. ESPN - Rest assured, Portis has been the MVP so far - NFL |
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
I agree that Portis is the Redskins AND the League MVP at the midway point.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
With Portis leading in the race for League MVP, I can't vote against him for team MVP.
His legs in the first quarter could be the most valuable appendages in all Football this year. THAT BEING SAID:
London Fletcher is a beast. He had a game ending tackle last week and has given the D real, honest to god leadership.
Honestly, though, who could imagine we would be so fortunate to be able to have this discussion? How many pro-bowl caliber people are on this team? It is off the hook. I was on the Season ticket list for 15 years. I've had season tickets for seven years now. I've got one one last thought: FINALLY! J-Dawg |

Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
it's hard to vote for only one redskin. but i had to go with portis. moss is having a great year. but i have to say i'm sorry to jason campbell. i stated that we would be under .500 with him taking the snaps this year. WOW!!! i was wrong!!! no interceptions in over 230 pass attempts, making good decisions with the ball. jc has turned the corner. and the entire defence reminds me of the capitol defence in the early 90's the offence is making play's...HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Gotta say Portis, but a large part of games are put in the hands of the QB. For that reason Campbell is a very close second.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
It's a team effort, but I had to select one guy it would be Clinton Portis. Portis would not have gotten his numbers without the offensive line and tight ends. The running game would not be as effective if Jason Campbell and the core of receivers were not effective. The team would not have won a single game without the defense.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
If the offensive line had been a choice I most likely would have chosen them. That being said, this is an individual player poll. So I have to go w/ Portis! He IS having a sick season so far!
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
I'd have to say Portis. He's been on fire.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Campbell has had a good year, but portis leads the league in rushing, so he gets my vote.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
I know everyone wants to pick CP. And its hard for me not to. But the Midseason MVP has to be Campbell. He's the leader of the offense and stresses ball security. He has 200+ pass attempts WITHOUT and interception. And with all 6 wins being by 8 points or less, its impossible to say we'd be 6-2 if JC had thrown a couple picks.
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Campbell.
Not to take anything away from Portis, dude is a complete badass, but if the defense didn't have to respect the passing game, there might not be as many holes to run through. Oh and did I mention that I am a completely biased Auburn grad???:) |
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
The D has been great but have to go with Portis
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
Portis!!!!!
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
MVP is Sean Taylor. I swear, Chris Horton is just Sean Taylor reincarnated with dreadlocks. Go Sean Taylor/Horton!
|
Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?
I say Zorn.
