Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
I've been patient and given the benefit of the doubt with Snyderatto, but this is just flat out ridiculous...

Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
haha wtf. Danny definitely planned to keep ESPN "unbias" and this will definitely help Vinny do his job better.
I really thought Snyder couldn't do any more, but he continues to amaze me... |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
I disagree with the move, but Jason's RI is getting a little ridiculous. The little boy takes shots at Dan Snyder and Vinny every chance he gets and he's starting to sound like a guy with a vendetta, as opposed to a journalists with some personal opinions.
|
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
I don't think it's such a huge deal. Most of Vinny's work is really for the off-season. Day to day and in-season Scott Campbell and Morocco Brown are running the show. Four hours a week is not something for JLC to get worked up over.
Will be interesting to see what questions he'll get asked |

I think some people automatically assume that if you're not kissing ass then you're being objective. Unfortunately thats not always the case and in fact it can be just as bad on the other end of the spectrum, as is the case of JLC, who will whine about anything and everything dealing with Snyder and Cerrato. In fact I'll say it now, JLC is just as objective these days as Larry Michael. Though to this date Charles Gibson is the only one I've seen that has been able to achieve both extremes of bias. Just compare his interview with Obama and Palin. |

Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
True JLC is getting carried away, but is this show really needed??

What shows are? |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
Yeah, it didn't sound like that big a deal to me. Can this really be so unprecedented? Coaches have shows. Quarterbacks have shows. Are you telling me they have less day to day responsibility through the week than a GM? I would think they would have considerably more.
Seriously, JLC has blown his top. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
I don't know if ppl listened to Vinny in Elliot in the Morning, but I must say that I enjoyed listening to him. I agree that JLC sounded a little bit over the top with his criticism. I agree that journalist are suppose to give their objective opinion, but sometimes it sounds like it is personal for these guys.

Ok put it this way, does Danny and Vinny really need to get their view out? They are trying improve their image but this doesnt help |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
Ruhskins, I agree. Vinny was good on EITM. All in all, if done right this show could be quite interesting and informative. I'm sure he's not neglecting his work to do a radio show.

I think it could though. And I would at least think JLC would think so, seeing as to how he's always complaining how secretive the two of them are. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
Does any other team have a GM that does this?

My thoughts too. I don't know but I'm guessing that NO other GMs in the league do this. I would think Vinny C should be pretty busy w/....hmmm...I don't know.....FOOTBALL!!! This is pretty ridiculous. It's the middle of the season in the NFL and in college I would imagine there's plenty of other things to do other than host a radio show. I'll name one...how about getting together a list of young, up and coming, diamonds in the rough, that could be coaching candidates in the future. I think some, give VC some slack b/c he's employed by the skins and they're using their B&G colored glasses to see the glass half full. It's not half full w/ Vinny. He has a losing record here. That's about all that matters. In the offseason, maybe. In season, no. Bad move by the Skins on this one. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
This is one of the most ridiculous complaints I've heard. What about all the coaches and players across the NFL (and every other sport) that are part of weekly radio shows? Should we complain about Zorn's press conferences too?
Plus we're not talking about his entire day or week. You don't think maybe, just maybe, he's got time outside of his radio show to work on the Redskins? This idea that he can't do his job or isn't doing his job because of this, or when he appears with Larry Michael on Redskin Radio, or when he eats dinner, or takes his dog for a walk is insane. |

As you say, the foolishness and profit-over-football mentality (or, perhaps more fairly, desire for maximum media exposure with a naive belief that it will not impact football operations) should just be readily apparent. |

I'm not taking up for JLC but he's a beat reporter and gets paid to have some opinions. There are alot of people w/ negative opinions about our FO. I just think it's odd. Do other GM's do it? Who cares what VC sais anyway b/c it's just FO speak generally. I don't really trust the guy based on a number of different reported situations over the last few years but that's not the point. Hey, VC is actually ok to listen too on the radio. The point is...why? Is this now in the job description now of VP of football ops? Very odd. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
JLC is just doing what he does best. Making something out of nothing.

I would LOVE to know who this NFL executive is that he always quotes in these negative stories.
|
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
Holding it on Mondays is peculiar too because if they have a performance like they did against the Giants Vinny would really hear about from fans.
Maybe this is Danny's way of filtering any intense negative fan reaction through Vinny. Looks like he'd like Vinny's name associated with any Redskin pratfalls instead of himself. |

He could spin a 45-0 loss into a lovefest... |

Right now and through the season the rosters are fairly set, the scouts are at the college games, but after we win the Superbowl, he will need to be focused on next season and beyond. Of course having never been a GM I am only speculating... |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
i don't really like it, and i think vinny is terrible on TV and on air, so i'm not sure why anyone would even think this is a good idea, but whatever.
|
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
Jason LaConfora is like the fat kid who wanted to play football but could never make the cut. Instead, he writes with a chip on his shoulder. How about when he was on comcast (TV) out at redskins park before preseason with a Boston Redsox hat on? This guy has the personality of a sponge and clearly has other agendas.

Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
JLC making another mountain out of a mole hill.
|
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
It is some classic JLC anti FO propaganda, but I have to think that launching this in the midst of the season is, at best odd timing and I've got to think he'd have better, more important things to do than talk to radio callers for 4 hrs a week. It just seems a little out there.
|
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
It's dangerous from a PR standpoint. If he is answering calls from fans (not sure this is the case) it could cause a lot of problems. Isn't there already a little bit of controversy as to who is making the roster decisions? All ten draft picks made the team as we all know. Personally, this just means I will have more questions answered concerning player personnel. So far now that "Cerrats" is the man, I like what he has done. People criticize the Jason Taylor deal, but it was necessary. I think his real challenge lies ahead in the next couple of years with all of the money and mistakes they've made in the past.

With JLC I'm kind of torn apart. During the coaching search for example he was golden. On more then one occasion I have emailed him thanking him for all the hard work he's put into the blog and he's always emailed me back. In fact he took the time to answer a question from me concerning a trade for Lions DT/DE Cory Redding during last years offseason. However the grudges that JLC and other members of the Post seem to hold towards the organization is doing no one any good. If Mike Brown can't be driven out of Clevland then what makes anyone think that Snyder can be driven out of DC. I say just report on the team and when they really do screw up, call them out on it. The recent blog entry with the angry fan would have went over a lot better with me if I couldn't tell the Post's writers were bias (for the most part, Wilbon, Wise, and Kornheiser are all right in my book). |

Vinny is on right now.

I agree. Some of the bad decisions of the last 5 years have his name on them though. I like what he did this past offseason, but he did offer 2 picks for Chad Ocho Cinco reportedly. Those picks were reported to be either 2 first rounders or a 1st and a high round second pick. The Bengals declined. But yea, it's just kind of odd. Not a huge deal, just odd. |

Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
I have been quite critical of Vinny, but I must say I would rather listen to him than Cowherd. I believe that ESPN affiliates are required to carry Mike and Mike, but not C.C., so I say Vinny should go daily.
As for J-La, these other club executives he blabs with always seem to come through with the anti-Redskins goods on demand. If I were a league executive I would be loathe to provide such quotes to another team's hometown newspaper. I mean, I don't think it would be proper for Redskins people to anonymously slam the Ravens in the Baltimore Sun, for example. I mean talk about wasting your precious time. If this guy is so busy, why is he blabbing with La Canfora? |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
Good point. JLC needs to get a life.

Otherwise you're going on the air with no plan, you wind up babbling, and the end result is that your show doesn't sound very good. I'm not sure the press conference analogy works, because I believe the NFL requires it. Obviously these people have a life outside of work. And who knows how Vinny schedules his day during the regular season? I can appreciate those who question whether this is the best use of his time though. According to Andy Polin and Steve Czaban on the Sports Reporters yesterday afternoon, they said that five other general managers across the NFL, including Bill Polian, do a radio or TV show of this nature. All in all, given his track record in personnel management over the years, Vinny had to understand that doing something like this would be frowned upon. Generally speaking, I don't like the idea, but it's not something that will keep me awake at night. |

Except this show is mainly about football which is what VC spends a good chunk of his time working on anyway. So I don't think it's that huge a deal. |
Re: Vinny Cerrato to host a mid-day radio show?
If you are not currently listening to Vinnie's show on Mon and Fri 10-12, you are missing a good show. Good guests (today it was Jaws reviewing the Mon night game). BTW, Jaws MVP pick for first half is our own JC.
Plenty of local call in Q & A. Much insight into the team not readily available outside the Skins family. It is solid, and entertaining. VC does a good job as host ESPN 980 - Home of the Redskins |
