Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
Steve Spagnuolo's defense is looking damn good, maybe Dan Snyder will reconsider hiring Fassel.

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
Yeah, for those who don't want Spagnuolo this isn't helping the cause so far
<<Fassel Fuel!!!>> |
Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
i'd rather have an offensive hc instead of a defensive one.

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
He did say in an interview earlier that he did intend to interview a coordinator or two from the Super Bowl teams.
Im a little wary of Spagnuolo because he has only been a DC for 1 season (granted it is a Super Bowl season), and that is simply too short a time to be certain that he is worthy of HC job. I will say, however, with his youth and his success this season he is certainly an intriguing prospect. I think I could get behind that hire, as an obvious attempt to take a step towards the future. I mean hey, if they win tonight his defense will have shut don seemingly the best offense in the NFL. One that has been dominant not only all season, but over the past 7 years as well. If he can do that then perhaps he will be the beginning to a new type of dominant team in the NFL. One that can shut down the potent elite-qb led Offense. That is very tempting, and I would be willing to give it a shot, bc IMO it is more appealing then the alternative. . . Two aging retread coaches, whose last coaching stints were complete failures. Im not saying I wouldn't be excited to see what Mariucci or Fassel would do for this team, but you gotta wonder how long either will stay here. Neither are so old that they couldn't coach for 5-10 years, but I doubt if either would. So it would be interesting to see some young blood at the helm, and then the hand picked coaching staff would help the young coach to transition into his new position. Anyways I doubt it ill happen. |

OSI, Strahan and Tuck were monsters today! I dont know if spagnuolo can duplicate their performance with Carter, Daniels and Golston.

that's what i'm saying. screw spags, i want to trade the skins front 4 for the giants front 4. |
Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
I believe his interview was a success

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
Okay, I'll say it: Spags, Spags, Spags, Spags! (Think Meatballs the movie)

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
I'm on the bandwagon. Mr. Snyder we have found our man even it Blache gets mad. This guy schemed the hell our of the Patriots. Welcome home Spags!!!!

You mean welcome back, he started as Charlie's Casserly gofer back in '83 with the Skins. |
Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
Yeah, well lets not get our panties in a bunch.
If he signs here, he no longer has Pierce. |
Welcome Home Spags!!!
I think we have found our next head coach. I just hope Zorn is ready to handle the offense since Spags will take control of the defense. I believe that he needs to be our coach. This guy schemed the hell out of the Patriots. The Giants were the only team this year to handle the Pats offense. I have never seen Brady get hit that many times other than when the Ravens played them.

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
I have wanted him since the beginning, right after the g-men beat dallas. The d looked great tonight, and I cant imagine what he could do with our defensive talent.
|
Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
Let's please not annoint Spagnuolo on the basis of one game.
|
Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
After what his D has done I would give him a serious look. Not sure though how he would work with Blatche/Zorn...
|
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
Him coming here is a pipe dream. Just forget about it. I doubt Snyder is really even gunning for this guy.
Hunker down for either Mooch or Fassel, because thats what you're gonna get. |

Why would you want Spagnuolo? Hell, we can get Belichick for free now. |

Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
His name is too hard to spell. Pass
Seriously though, hiring him-while not a bad choice-would defeat the idea that the coordinators were approved by the coaching candidates. Unless of course, a friend of a friend of Spags mentioned to Snyder that maybe, just maybe, he'd like Zorn as his OC. Fassel Fuel!!! |
Let's please not annoint Spagnuolo on the basis of one game.
Too early to annoint him, sure, but remember that he has been a force in the NFC East for 7 or 8 seasons now, and it would be more exciting to have a young, relatively unkown head coach with a lot of possible upside than to have Mooch or Fassel, two guys with experience who have proven to be a bit more than mediocre head coaches. |
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
Not taking anything away from the Giants or Spags, but I'm not ready to annoint him our next great coach based on this game or this season.. We don't have Strahan, Umenyoura (sp), Tuck or Pierce.. They have better talent across the DL which makes the defense go..
Blache can adopt some of his philosophies but he's a 1st year DC who did a great job but our roster and current coaching staff isn't built for a rookie head coach.. |
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
Slightly off-topic, but it's pretty amazing how stacked the Giants are at DE. They've got 2 Pro Bowl, bookened DEs in Osi and Strahan. a double-digit sack BACKUP in Justin Tuck and Kiwanuka (who plays OLB, but can play DE).

great job by the Giants D, but I'm not sure what brilliant scheme you are referring to. The G-men's D-line is phenomenal. If only we had built up a D-line like that instead of holding onto losers like Wynn and Daniels over the last few years. |

Norv Turner calling plays for Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Jay Novacek & Michael Irvin was an offensive genius. Norv Turner calling plays for Heath Shuler, Ricky Ervins, Alvin Harper and Michael Westbroke was a f-ckin moron. |
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
The Giants can't match the HC but as far as money .........that won't be the issiue.

Man, AMEN to that. The NFL is a copycat league, and we can only hope that Cerrato and Snyder will take notice. Unless Spags can bring that front four with him, I wouldn't expect the same type of results in Washington. |

The players are what make the difference here, not the coach. Plus, we already have our defensive coordinator in place. It's not likely for our team Snyder would hire a defensive minded HC with no NFL coaching experience. He would probably hire Meeks if he was going to do that. |
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
This has to be a clear lesson to idiot GM's that the key to defense in today's NFL is having DE's that are freaks. What the Giants D did tonight was just straight up incredible.
|
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
Spags will be our next HC. He is now officially the hottest coordinator in the league. He won against an undefeated Patriots team, won a superbowl and would be the splash hire that Snyder loves. I'm for it personally that was one hell of a performance and if he has any input on who we bring in here we will finally get a decent passrusher

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
SI.com's Don Banks seems to imply that Spag's might be the frontrunner now...

Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
There's alot of defensive coordinators around the league that would look pretty damn good with a a front four that gets consistent pressure. I am not discrediting what "spags" has done, only making the point that a solid team is built from the line up on d and o alike. NY has an awesome defensive line...
|
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
dont you think us bringing spags here will give us the line that we want in 2 to 3 years??? you guys have to think now now now, a new coach will eventually build the team he wants and im for hiring spags. on a side note... whoever said blache was a 1st time dc... didnt he dc the bears??
|
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
he worked well with the talent that he got.
|
Re: Welcome Home Spags!!!
Is this the same guy who had Corey Webster covering Randy Moss 1 on 1 in a must-throw do or die situation?
Good gameplan, but piss poor on the fly game calling. And we really want him to be our next HC? |

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
I'm wary of the 'hot' candidate. Plus, being a great coordinator (who also had good talent) for a short period of time (or even an extended period of time) doesn't seem to necessarily translate into being a good head coach. There is so much administrative stuff, delegation, etc. that a head coach deals with. That is why when people say 'retread' as a slur I think it is foolish. The best prep for being a head coach is ... being a head coach. I hope Fassel gets the job ... I'm sure he learned from New York, his people are already here, he doesn't strike me as a flake (as Mariucci does - subjective of course), and with G. Williams gone I wish they would have just given him the job a couple of weeks ago. If he doesn't get the nod then it probably means Snyder bowed to perceived fan pressure and chased the sexy candidate instead - wrong move IMO.

Re: Spagnuolo is looking good (Defense)
If we draft a freaking monster DE then maybe we can duplicate the giants success no matter who is coaching
