Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
Bummer dude. One high-quality, impact LB is off the market in all likelihood. I'm a believer that LB will be a need next season with Rocky hurt, and Dansby would have been a good fit. Even if we didn't want Dansby himself, this shrinks the supply of quality LBs on the market, which would drive the price up for everyone.
Of course there are much bigger and better things to think about with the game against Dallas only two days away, but I thought I'd mention it since several on the site have thought about Dansby. Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
Smart move on their part.

Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
Didn't know he's been playing in the middle. Have to wonder if he would be as effective moving back to OLB. Maybe mike is his best position.
As we discussed in the thread about Briggs, OLB is a position of need, but I hope we gamble on a day 1 draft pick that can contribute immediately. |
Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
anyone know how old briggs is? the skins are still in the market for a linebaker, and will have the money

Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
Jeez, Rocky goes down and all of a sudden LB is a big need? I just don't see it. I like our depth and I think guys like Godfrey and Blades can hold things down in the meantime. Knowing how GW likes his backers I'm sure we might add a player or two to that spot, but I just don't think we need to go crazy and add a high profile guy.

Since supply is so short, Briggs just got that much more expensive. The draft may be the way to go after all. |
Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
There's always Ravens LB/DE Terrell Suggs

We'll definitely have to add a player or two, the question will be whether we're adding a starting caliber guy or backups behind Godfrey, Campbell, and Blades. If nothing else, Rocky's absence leaves a void in our depth which absolutely has to be addressed. We can probably patch things together with Godfrey on running downs, Campbell on passing downs, and Blades mixed in on occasion. But for the long term, Washington is getting older, Fletcher is older, etcetera. Spending on Briggs is probably cost prohibitive now that Dansby is off the market, but I'd definitely be thinking of a 1st, 2nd, or 3nd round LB in the draft this year. Even when Rocky gets back in 2009, we're going to need youngsters at that position. |

I agree that we don't need a big time signing, but it would be worth a draft pick or two in the middle rounds, mabye earlier if there's a good one available. Godfrey is old & we don't know that he'll even make the team, while Blades is ideally a mike. We need some depth there one way or another. Look at it this way, we drafted 2 LBs last year, one made the team & 1 cut, then plan for Rocky to be out for 08, that's a net of 0 in terms of improving depth, which the staff said was a priority last year. |

He's more of a down lineman type. Not that he isn't a good player, but I'm not feeling him as an LB in our system. |
Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
suggs fits into the 3-4 system being a rushing linebacker, i dont think hed fit for us in the 4-3.

This is the advice I think needs to be used right now for the Redskins on almost the whole team. Keep and use the draft picks in place (if we can trade down and pick up more all the better), and than fill the holes with mid-tiered and lower priced free agents and the team would be better off. We have enough high priced players on the roster, lets keep picking up cheap, "blue collar" players and I bet you that the stories of unheralded players like Lorenzon Alexander, Anthony Montgomery and Stephon Heyer keep appearing and pretty soon Dan Synder won't need to have Redskin 1 on the runway warming up at 12:01 every year when the free agent market opens up. |
Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
I"M SO SICK OF LANCE BRIGGS. We have guys that have been around long enough to pick up the slack until Rocky get's back. This is why you have guys like Blades (who was a tackling machine in college) on the roster. What about Khary Campbell? He has started in the past for us and done ok. LB is does not seem to be an area of need. DE and O-line is where we need to start looking. Signing big name guys does not seem to work around here. It's all about how well guys can play together.

Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
i like blades but he is a middle linebacker naturally

Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
michael boley is unbelievable, OLB and is 25... hes restricted free agent and im not too knowledgeable on those rules, but i think hes the best on out there.

I noticed Clemons' stats too. It's a shame he got injured and we let him go. |

Oakland and yes, he has 8 sacks. The guy was once pegged as a possible replacement for Arrington, but he struggled in coverage, got injured, and was cut. He's gotten spot duty in Oakland and it sounds like he's just a very good role-player (i.e., pass rusher). |

That's pretty much exactly what he was here for us. He really showed up when turning the corner rushing from the outside, his quickness was great. He didn't get that many sacks for us, but I remember him always being around the QB when rushing. He was a hair away from a sack on multiple occasions for us. Good role player, but I still don't see him as an every-down LB. |
Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
SmootSmack is going to have a tough time dealing with this.

Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
I would still sign him, you can never have enough pass rushers. God knows we could use some.

I'd certainly like to get him back. 8 sacks from a guy who doesn't see the field often is pretty outstanding. |
Re: Arizona to Franchise LB Karlos Dansby
Chris Wilson basically plays the same position & role for us. It would be nice to get Clemons back, but would we keep both he & Wilson? My gut feeling is that the staff will want to keep Wilson & see if he can improve. He's had a decent year & it was his first in the nfl.

Yeah Marcus Washington has kind of been moved to this role as well at times. The LB who becomes the down lineman/rush end in obvious passing situations. Depends what Clemons costs. If it's next to nothing, sure why not bring him in. But I wouldn't go spending much considering we've got guys who can do what he's already doing. I mean Marcus has five sacks of his own, and Wilson has two, and I'd guess that just about all of them come from the down lineman/rush end position on obvious passing downs, so we're basically getting the production out of that 3rd down rush specialist spot that Clemons brings to the table. If you can bring Clemons in for next to nothing, then I think you do it and you let him take Marcus' place as the rush end in obvious pass situations, and then you can move Marcus back to a more traditional LB role. |
