Props to the coaching staff:
Great job this week. I'd still like to see us work on putting more points up, but we played great and had a good gameplan. We had nice long drives that moved the chains and ate clock, our defense was rocking EVERYONE.
I hope we can continue to build on this. Just wanted to eat a bit of crow, the coaching staff did a good job. I hope we can continue this. |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
I'll share a little bit of that crow with you.. The coaching staff made great calls all game.. I think we saw more of a Saunders influence offensively today thank God but we need more scoring outputs like that!

Re: Props to the coaching staff:
Props for the eating of crow. Go Skins!

Re: Props to the coaching staff:
f...ing great game by the coaches.
|
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
This week though, the players need to be forced to hold a ball everywhere they go. We had far too many fumbles.
Green Bay has a very good D and a supremely better offensive line. It'll be a very good test for us. |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
I'll join the club...the only thing I didnt like was not going for anything at the end of the half when we had 1:30 w/ 2 timeouts..I also wasent a huge fan of the 4th and 1 challenge, but I can see why they did that....
Overall great job. Great job by Gregg Williams absolutley blanketing that Lions Offense, Good job overall. |

Re: Props to the coaching staff:
Said it before, and I'll say it again...this is what happens when you play aggressive and let the pass set up the run!!!!
Great job from the coaches understanding that conservative play was not the way to win for an entire game, and they stepped out on a limb to play aggressive and it yielded 34 points to 3 vs a very potent offense. That's proof right there. |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
I have to agree that the coaching staff called a good game. I don't know about you guys/gals, but if we didn't get the safety I really thought we could have seen another great 1/2 of football and complete domination of the opponent go straight down the shitter.
GREAT defense, the best they have played all year against a VERY good offense. We will need another performance like that next week in Lambeau. |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
Big-up to the coaches...they really let Campbell lose today. Love GW's game plan too. He really took away everything the Lions wanted to do!
My Game Ball goes to the coaches. |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
One bad half in four games. Gregg Williams D is back baby!!!!!!

My Game Ball goes to the coaches.
I agree - Just a dominating effort all the way around. I just love it when Sellers turns the corner leading Portis on a sweep - somebody's head is about to roll!!! |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
Extremely conservative game plan. Play keep away offense with long drives (no deep plays) and no blitzing. Doesn't sound much different than other games this year. Of course, the players did exceptional following the gameplan and just out-hustled and out-played the Lions players. Take away Portis' fumble and the fact that nobody on defense can fall on a loose ball, and it was a perfect game.

Re: Props to the coaching staff:
MAJOR PROPS for Coaches!!
The best indicator of being aggressive was the 4th and 2 when we PASSED the BALL!!! That is AWESOME!! and AGRESSIVE. We also went for a 4th and 1 that we missed in the first half. I really think this is more of a Gibbs confidence booster win in Campbell than anything....It cannot be overstated....Gibbs aggressiveness is directly correlated to his confidence in his QB. Look at the SB teams....they though he was Don Coryell JR....look at him with Brunell......conservative passing WR screens and 3 yard passes and only threw deep when desperate. Wake up folks!!! The skins have their first potential (not this yr) Pro bowl QB since Brad Johnson and before that was Rypien! CAMPBELL IS BECOMMING SOLID!!!! |

Late in the game on those sweeps he was patient & got some nice gains. What worries me is that he's had a lapse of attention the past 2 weeks. last week it was the fumbled handoff, this week the direct snap. Don't know whose fault they were, but could've been his. Then of course the fumble inside the 10. Hopefully these are just a couple bad plays that any player will have in a season. |

I really didn't see anything drastically different from the Giants game, the key today was we made some big plays, kept drives going, and converted 3rd downs. This play calling crap is so overrated.

I understand about the debate...mine was never about execution vs playcalling. It's conservative playcalling vs aggressive play calling. We were aggressive and we kicked ass. 20 passing plays in the 3rd and 4th quarter, 20 rushes in the 3rd and 4th quarter. (keep in mind we did 5 straight rushes with 6 minutes left in the 4th trying to run out the clock on our last drive. Take that away and it's 20 passes to 15 rushes...that's HUGE! And we all know how bad it was in the second half vs the Giants. It's pretty obvious the playcalling went from conservative to aggressive.) |

We saw CP lining up behind Rabach on a few occasions and running sweeps. We saw Sellers getting the ball downfield. We saw more counters in the running game. We saw CP lining up at fullback and Sellers at halfback and then motioning Portis from the fullback position. We saw more slants, especially the one on 4th down that kept a drive alive. I don't know if I've seen any of this stuff til today. And it sure kept Det. off balance |

Yeah, I really agree. I think this win goes as credit almost entirely to the players, who made allmost no mistakes. Our D looked great, shows the importance of getting presuse on the QB when you have a pretty good secondary. JC looked pretty good and was mistake free. But our offense only put up 25 points, which isnt that great vs. the Lions D imo I think JC's preformance is earning a lot more trust from everyone around him and hopefully the coaching staff will let him air it out one day, or maybe theyll be forced to. awsome win though |

On that first snap to CP, Rabach said that was a botched snap and never actually intended for Portis I think we've gradually see the Redskins try different things, as Campbell has grown more comfortable. Nothing drastic, but a gradual growth. I wonder though if some of the reasoning behind today's "trick" formations and plays was to mask the absence of Moss today? Would they have been more direct in their approach with Moss in, and even ARE in the 2nd half? |

In many ways I agree with you, Matty. We won the game with balance and ball control on offense, and great D. We absolutely CRUSHED them in TOP, and that is THE hallmark of Joe Gibbs football. But for sure, the plays that Saunders used to achieve this success were more varied. More slants, awesome use of Sellars, and better distribution in the passing game (by necessity, no doubt, but still, well done and lacking before this). One big difference, which I give MAJOR props to Gibbs and Saunders: the red zone offense. Beautiful roll outs by Jason, letting the kid improvise and make plays, and HANDING THE BALL TO BIG MIKE! To all who were upset about the playcalling at the end of the gints game, guess what. So were Gibbs and Saunders. And they made adjustments. Very nicely done. It goes without saying that that was one of the best defensive games, from both a planning and execution standpoint, that we've seen from Coach Williams. Pressure with a 4 man front! Hard hitting pass defense! Safeties! INTs for scores! Wow. Gameball to the D, all around. PS Good specials, and MAN what a huge play by Cartwright. Maybe not game-saving, but close. |

Much better argument. Not more aggressive at all (a screen to Lloyd is not more aggressive than CP off tackle). However, I would say that I think it was more creative. The Miami game was also creative. Do we only see this with extra time available for gameplanning? Of course, had to be creative with all the key injuries. |

I concur |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
The slants and deep-ins were a good addition. But we hit them. That's two things--better pass protection (no sacks, right?) and better execution by both JC and the WRs. And that let them get into a rhythm, stay on the field, and open the play book.
(And the Detroit D is not the gints D. And we exploited it as we should have. Very well called game, and very well-managed by JC. Looked like a vet out there.) |
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
I too agree with Skins69. We were much more creative and kept the defense guessing.

That is good creative playcalling. We should still run that stuff when Moss comes back. When you split the Qb out away from the formation it gives the offense an extra blocker. |

Not true, I saw some trickery...twice they did a direct snap, they threw the damn ball on first and second down, and they ran the ball to the right, used Sellers quite a bit and in the goal line. They used Cooley as a decoy all game long, threw quick slats quite a bit. Yes, we made plays but the game plan was most certainly not comparable to the Giants game plan. |

Not saying that didn't run to the right at all, but I noticed most of our runs were to Chris Samuel's side, which was to the left. |

Re: Props to the coaching staff:
Not much to be said here, pretty simple. OUTSTANDING COACHING & GAMEPLAN!
|
Re: Props to the coaching staff:
There's a chicken and the egg thing here--by converting 3rd downs, they had more plays, and thus more chances to try the trickery. 3rd down efficeincy really allows both the QB and the O coordinator to get in a rhythm.
But no doubt they had more going on in the playcalling. Still, for those calling for a shoot-out type offense, what you saw here was, dare I say it, REDSKINS FOOTBALL. And that means BALL CONTROL. When Gibbs teams are playing well, that's what you see. Look, it's still a work in progress, but when it clicks (and we saw some sweet drives today), you may well get the best of BOTH Saunders and Gibbs. Ball control with creative playcalling, converting in the red zone, and hitting the big play (we didn't take shots deep today--that was both by design, given the D, and due to JC reading things properly). And if the D keeps playing even remotely like this, look out. But it's one game. Just as losing to NY didn't mean the end of the season, this doesn't mean SB-time. What we want is steady progress, and the ability to learn from our mistakes. We saw that today, so props to the coaches and to the players (the lord blessed us with a great bunch of guys...). |
