ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
Well, he's officially out of ESPN.
I'm one of the few Redskins fans that actually liked him as a broadcaster. Hopefully, NBC or CBS will pick him up. I guess ABC won't though since they're the parent company of ESPN. |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
I liked Theismann as well. I would much rather listen to him than Brian Baldwinger.
|
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
There was a rumor several months back that he was heading to Redskins Radio. To do what exactly I don't know, and I actually haven't heard the rumor for a while now so it may be dead
|
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
I actually liked Joe better as a commentator than as a QB.... The autograph collector wonders if his price will be coming down soon. I know the people that have the autograph deal with him (Sports Card Heroes) raised his prices when he got on Monday Night.
Now that he is canned from the booth, I hope they do right by the fans and lower his price back to where it was. |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
i liked him as qb and broadcaster.he's a lot better than some of those yoohoos on nfl network and terry'einstein"bradhaw.he's bound to be a multimillionaire now.does he still have the restaurant in dc???
|
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
damn, he was actually decent... and yeah I hate baldinger too...

Theismann was interviewed a few weeks ago on the Riggins show on Redskins radio and when Riggins said he wanted Joe back on the show in the future, Theismann made a cryptic remark; something like "that'll be very easy to set up in a few weeks". It sounded funny at the time, but it could be a reference to him joining Redskins Radio. |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
Does anyone have any idea why?
I loved Joe as a QB and as a commentator. He had been with ESPN since 88...why let him go now with no comment as to why? What the hell happened? |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
He was on a local Espn affiliate in SWFL last Friday. He sounded good and did a thirty-ish minute int with the locals. All he said he was doing was some kind of national ad work with Kingsford......the charcoal people for some tailgating ad campaign/.
That's SICK! I hope something breaks for him............QUICK |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
I'm actually happy about this. Joe Theismann is one of my least favorite commentators of all time and just sounds ignorant most of the time. Unfortunately, that fits the mold for a lot of the other commentators out there and at least Joe brought some Redskins homerism to the table to counteract the Emmitts and Irvins. Unfortunately, of all of the former Redskins who have now turned to commentary, I cannot think of a single one that I enjoy listening to.

Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
Don’t freak out on me for saying this, but I think Aikman is one of the best commentators out there. I always thought Joey T was a pompous ass!

PM me if need be, but this is killing me that I can't find out why they got rid of him. I am a long time Joey T fan. |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
I'll have to say when he first came out I did not like the fact that he would seat in the booth and say what play the skins were going to run. If I'm correct that lasted one or so games and he was not allowed to do any games of the skins for some time. I grew to like him as he did a good job of explaining the games through the eyes of the QB. I really don't pay much attention to any announcers and the only time I really got ticked was our game this years against the Eagles when they forgot tha they were announcing a football game.
|
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
I'm sure when they signed Kornheiser on, they didn't want to Washington homer's in the booth...and you could kinda see Jaws soaring up the ladder on ESPN...and I actually like him in the booth. I grew up as a kid with Joe as my hero for the Skins and always liked having him do the Sunday night games...and now other than Al and John, the whole new Sunday night thing on NBC sucks!!!!

Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
I think Joe would be a good fit at NFL Network.
|
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
at least this was legitimate....as opposed to michael irvin's crack pipe firing
|
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
Knowing how convoluted Joe's image is of himself, Im sure he doesnt even know yet. Denial Denial Denial. I liked him with a helmet on when I didnt have to hear him lick his own balls.
He's condescending in his delivery. |

So was it Joe's idea or ESPN's? I'd still like to know...please PM if you know anything. It just doesn't make any sense to me. |

Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
He's a great Redskin, but IMO a very average analyst. As far as on the spot film breakdown and analysis, he can't hold a candle to Jaworski.

I don't take it personally, I know I don't need to know, I want to know. If you really can't say anything, then you should say stuff like this: I know...but I can't tell you:D Don't even bother telling us you know if you're not willing to share. Some of us would really like to know. |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
Can anyone really say with a straight face that Joey is in the same ballpark as Jaws as a commentator?
You don't like Mark May?
Ah, I forgot about Mark May since he does college. I do like Mark May and (if we count Desmond Howard) I don't mind him either. I was more thinking of Riggins when I wrote that post. I hate Riggins. |

You know, I hear more and more people throwing all sorts of praise upon Ron Jaworski for his analysis and breakdowns, but to me, he comes across as the guy who's a know-it-all. At times, he goes a bit overboard and I find him to be every bit of the talker that Joe Theismann was -- if not moreso. I don't hate him or anything -- but I don't really get all the love. |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
Jaworski is the only reason I can stand the commentary on MNF. Tony does a good job on PTI, but not MNF and I hope they get a couple better guys to pair Ron up with. It could be a great broadcast team...

Jaws kind of annoys me a little at time cause he tends to get very vocal, and has difficulty holding on to the volume of his words too. He reminds me of Kornheiser. And While I like the both of them, just seems like they are yelling in the booth a lot. |
Re: ESPN Sacks Joe Theismann
i love JT he pretty damn good. Love to here him on skins radio and get rid of the butt kisser Larry Michael. Should have kept Frank.
