Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
So who did we release and how many wideouts are we carrying?
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
B Lloyd??
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
B Lloyd??
Wouldn't be possible, that'd put us over the cap. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
we probably cut a safety. this might because but moss is hurt and he might not be able to play v.s. the lions
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
Just what this team needs, another WR.
Lloyd will be gone. |

That is exactly what I am thinking, maybe Santana's injury is worse than what we expected. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
I'm worried about Moss as well. Ugh.
Plus, it does not say a lot about Lloyd, no matter what else is up, IMO. But I guess that's not a surprise at this point. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
Interesting development. I agree with those of you who think this says something about Moss' injury.
If your going to be safe at WR, you're going to get as many guys to learn as much as possible while you've got this opportunity (bye week). Look out, Lloyd may get another chance after all. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
This is getting old. Literally and figuratively.
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
I'm more worried about the health of Moss. The GOOD news is it sounds like Caldwell is about ready to go, I expect to see him suited up against Detroit.
KM did get cut from the Texans I believe....? maybe OK depth if we pick him up? They could DUMP Lloyd NOW and that would have ZERO effect on the team....EXCEPT FOR THE CASH PROBLEMS. He has done NOTHING for our organization, except cost us a pile of cash. ARCH PART II, WASTE! |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
I think Bram alluded to cutting Stoutmire to make room for a WR.
|
I think Bram alluded to cutting Stoutmire to make room for a WR.
that's the only other move I could see making sense. If it's Omar, I'm sure he's tired of the on again off again stuff with the Skins. Unfortunately, that's the business side of it. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
still don't see a link...
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
From JLac's current chat on the Post.com
Jason La Canfora: hey, hear that McCardell has not signed with the Skins and no signing is imminent today. Skins are talking to some free agents, so I would by no mans rule out them adding a tall wideout at some point in the next week, but he has not signed at this point. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
that's more like it, a real source. And can we start our nonexistent relationship with Keenan by spelling his name correctly.
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
Well he started his career here why not end it here.
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
B. Lloyd "He gone"
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
B. Lloyd "He gone"
as stated before, we cannot cut Lloyd. we will be over the cap. i say goodbye to Caldwell. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
Maybe we've found a way to trade him ala Arch to the Bears.
That would be music... |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
Didnt know he was only 37!! Did you know we drafted him in 1991?

Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
Just found this in a random article about Keenan McCardell and thought it was worth posting:
He's the ultimate possession receiver. He's caught more than 70 passes in a season seven times and racked up more than 1,000 yards receiving in five separate years. Hmmm that could be nice...a tall possession receiver, who knew there was such a thing? Later in the article: McCardell compares his accomplishments and style to former Redskins great Art Monk, who is among the most prolific possession receivers in NFL history. He learned a great deal from Monk during his one year in Washington. "I took a lot from Art," McCardell says. "He didn't say much, either. He was just one of those guys who did the job when his number was called. I learned how to be a smart receiver from him." and humble..? Even Later: "I always have the fire to play," he says. "I remember a coach saying about one guy that 'you'll have to roll him off the field.' That's the same thing with me." Now if this guy isn't the anti-Lloyd I dont know who is. He may be old, but in 2005 he put up over 900 yrds, and 9 TD's. I would not mind seeing him come here. P.S. we tried to sign him in June, but he lives in Houston and they offered him the same (vet min) contract. Oh and here's the article. Its a couple years old and there isn't much else in it that is interesting: NFLHS.COM - Players Spotlight: Keenan McCardell, San Diego Chargers |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
Vet min? Sweet.
Only 37--that makes me feel pretty good at 38. Maybe I can get the vet min as well. Didn't cut it with the Texans, which is not a good sign. But we'll see. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
More from JLac. KMaC may be on the way:
McCardell Visit Scheduled tocome 9in on Monday for a visit. This will be his second trip to The Park and I wouldn't see them bringing him in without planning on signing him assuming he is in decent shape and passes a physical. Don't see them taking a cvap hit on Lloyd now and might as well wait throught he end of the season to see if you end needing WRs, but you have to think if they get back to carrying 6 WRs then he his days of being active are dwindling. We shall see next week. Cheers. Posted by Jason La Canfora |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
From the Houston Chronicle on why KMaC was released (I'm on a roll here, people.):
One place the Texans didn't keep too many players was at wide receiver, where they settled on five players instead of six, forcing McCardell to look outside his hometown for his 17th NFL season. "If I hadn't gotten hurt (hamstring), I would have gotten the opportunity I needed to make the team," said McCardell, who had just one reception for 16 yards in the preseason. "I understand it. It is what it is. I'm going to field some calls. I'm going to help a team this season. Hopefully, a playoff team. I know what I can do. I want to play another season." The reason Kubiak was able to release McCardell, Johnson and Anderson was because of the emergence of rookie Jacoby Jones, who had the best preseason of anyone on the team. "We drafted this kid in the third round," Kubiak said, "and had I been standing here today with him having a slow process of becoming a player in this league and helping this team, then there's no doubt we're keeping six. "I think his growth in such a short period of time and what he's been able to do has helped us keep five wide receivers. That's the bottom line." Stanley, McCardell, Lundy among Texans cuts | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
i hope they dont get rid of lloyd yet...
he hasnt had too many opportunities yet.. and keep in mind last year was a new team & offense for him to know |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell
So now the question is: If Moss cannot start against the Lions, who starts in his place? If Moss can't go I would like to see Brandon Lloyd get a shot.

Sorry ass Lloyd is fourth on the depth chart. It would be El and Thrash, then possibly Caldwell or WASTE. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Keenan McCardell
so moss got injured sunday, and we still have no idea how bad it is?

I heard on Fox 5 that Moss suffered a slight groin injury and will more than likely be ready for Detroit. |

One would think they would try him out like yesterday and have him learning basic plays throughout the bye week. |

groin injuries are the worst! thanks for the info though |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Keenan McCardell
The always reliable Wiki says he's already a Redskin
Keenan McCardell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I don't know how I feel about this signing. I guess Saunders saw plenty of him the past few years and liked what he saw but my gut feeling is he's sort of going to be serving a role that Cooley can't play as much of because he has to stay back and block. I'd rather they focus on finding a way to get Cooley out in the passing game, and keep someone else in to block. I don't know, it's just a shame that Patten and now Lloyd have not panned out for us (not to mention Jacobs) and we're looking to Keenan and Reche. Both are good, especially McCardell (5 years ago) but what Campbell needs more than anything is chemistry with his receivers. |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Keenan McCardell
I see this as insurance in case Moss has more groin troubles down the road. He'll be coming in for the veteran minimum, I don't see much to hate here.
|

So let's suppose Moss has to miss a game due to injury. Do you slide ARE to the number one role? or is it Keenan or Reche (Thrash? Lloyd?) Because let's suppose it is KM, you have to adjust a lot of your offense right? I mean KM isn't the ideal receiver for those bubble screens for example |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Keenan McCardell
KM would probubly be the third or fourth WR until he learns the offense. I suppose we would use ARE, Thrash and either Caldwell or Loyd. I know Espy got hurt but didn't we have other WR rookies that looked pretty good in preseason? young talent?
|
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Keenan McCardell
I'm very disappointed the Redskins have decided to bring in KM and RC. Nothing against them....
Everyones heard about the 700 page playbook and the timing offense. Can anyone expect anything from KM and RC this year? Even if they had very limited plays, I doubt they will be able to develop timing with JC. A receiver running the wrong route, Running to the wrong spot, breaking too late and too early in a route can cause plays to breakdown or even turnovers. Lloyd has been a huge bust. But he didn't get bad overnight. He underachieved all training camp and OTAs. It's up to the coaches and management to field the best roster they possibly can while continually building for the future. If lloyd is so bad, he should've been cut before training camp. The Redskins are trying to stack the roster at each position. They have 4 cornerbacks that have started whole seasons in the league. They have 5 WR that have started full seasons. at some point, You have to have young hungry players dieing for a shot. Stephen Heyer is a perfect example. Young undrafted guy, But he fits his role on the team. He had a shot to play and he played well! We need more guys like that. Rock Cartwright is another example, Late round pick but sticks with the team through hard work and good ST play. He has been a very good return guy and solid #3 RB. We don't need to bring in the darrick blaylocks to replace him. A young WR who's been through training camp has more value now than some tired retread WR who is trying to learn a limited playbook. You can have your starting players, But with enough injuries, You are going to have to play young guys who were drafted in the later rounds. Thats not a bad thing if you draft guys that fit your system. Guys like Asante Samuels, TJ Housyourmommazdah, and Steve Smith aren't guys that started from day 1, they earned their keep and when their time came, they stepped up. The redskins need to stop bringing in other peoples trash and start developing their own talent. sorry for the incoherent rant, I had a tough day on a job site installing an ip phone system. AT&T decided to gang bang me and not tell me... Btw, That chick in the mercury car commercials is freaking hot! |
Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Keenan McCardell
Moss' health is obviously a concern after signing mcCardell epecially since the skins already have like 7 or 8 recievers on their roster. McCardell will be with the team until Moss is able to return at 100% or as insurance. McCardell will prob start as a 3 until he knows the offense and builds some sort of chemistry with Campbell. Lloyd or thrash will most likley b the number one even though randell el has been playing well hes just not a established reciever, put in the game more to draw attention from the deffense and run trick plays and yes occationally catch a pass which he has been doing well but hes still not the established reciever a number 1 has to be, so he'll be a two or three. On the other hand this is good news for brandon llyod with a chance to finally prove himself. If he can not establish himself at reciever by the end of the season i see no reason in keeping him and wasting the 4th round pick we gave up for him. thers no doubt he has the potential to be a great number 2 or 3 but he hasnt shown it. He's not a good compliment to moss anyway. two speedy deep threat recievers is not the way to go. they need a big frame possesion reviever opposite moss.

Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Keenan McCardell
I am just surprised we didn't do anything about our WR's during the offseason, which lead us to believe that everything was good with the players. Then we start the season and it seems we are hitting the WR panic button.
I actually like the KM signing cause he would be a good mentor, but i thought Reche was brought in to be #3 (he's not) and now Keenan? Are they priming us for a Lloyd cut? |
