Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
ESPN.com: Report: Upshaw critic thinks threat real
He is reported as saying that he would "...break his ***damn neck" WTF is that. Goodell needs to do something about this. If he is so worried about the NFL's image he should drop the hammer on upshaw like he has with the players. |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
It just shows upshaws true colors, he's a NO CLASS piece of shit. They need to get this guy out of there, and to make a comment like that. They sure do have great union leadership......NOT!
I'm quite sure the COMMISH will at least be having a talk with this TARD. |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
he is way out of line. being one of those old retired players, he should probably reconsider his position. and good morning gigitty

Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
GM mister Dmek! How are things in Gangsta land?
|
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
His comments are inexcusable no doubt, but people are riding him a bit hard, in my opinion. He's the leader of the NFL PA. This is the union for CURRENT PLAYERS. If you want to see more support to NFL vets, go tell current players to give up money and see what happens. Upshaw has said multiple times his job is to work for the current players and would love to do something for the retirees, but if the current players don't want it, it will not happen.

you know how we roll up here in amish land |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
daseal, as a former teamster, i hear what you are saying. but that doesn't excuse these threats he continues to make. I'm sure if he went to todays players with some sort of helping hand proposal towards the old guys, it wouldn't be a problem. remember, there is a whole lot of money involved. and if Upshaw wasn't the head on the nflpa, he would be on the other side of the issue
|
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
I think Goodell said it wasn't his place to get involved. Which I guess theoretically is true because Upshaw doesn't report to Goodell (the same way that Clinton does for example).

Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
Really classy by Upshaw.

Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
he is definitely all about the money. too bad him and Dellamillaure(sp?) cant put the pads on and settle it like that. how funny would that be?

Doesn't matter if the Union is for current players, only punters or for just players over 400 pounds...that's how how the leader of a professional organization should act. I wonder how Goodell will look at Upshaw's stupid comments. |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
i don't think he has any power over Upshaw. the head of an entirely different organization

Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
This guy Joe DeLamielleure sound like a huge hypocrite.
First he hounds and threatens Upshaw's job and livelihood by calling for Upshaws ouster. From what I understand DeLamielleure has been very publicly campaigning for Upshaws removal. Talk about threats. Then he cries like a little bitch when Upshaw feels threatened and says something back. Yes Upshaw did not measure his words before he spoke in anger, but he was not serious. Then DeLamielleure says his wife and kids are scared? Come on. How do you think Upshaws family feels when DeLamielleure is very publicly threatening Upshaws job? Can't take the heat? Get out of the Kitchen. Then to imply that Upshaw is mobbed up because he is the head of a powerful Union? This guy can not have it both ways. |

You can add in Mika Ditka in there as well. He is always blasting Upshaw every chance he gets. The question I have is Gene Upsahw legally obligated to the retired players? Doesn't he work for the current players? If this is the case then why is it that all these old timers are always bitching at him? I assume it's over benefits and money but Upshaw doesn't work for the retired players. He only works for the current players. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this |

Yeah, it is really up to the league to help the retired players that are struggling not the NFLPA. To take a word from our President, Gene Upshaw is not the decider of the NFL and it's vast resources. That would be the commissioner. |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
Exactly. Complain to the players or the league, but not Upshaw. He's simply the mouthpiece of the players.
|
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
Do any of you get the emails from The Card Cellar? They are having Joe Demallure (sp?) at an appearance. Who's got the balls to ask him about this?

That's a hell of a mouthpiece then, I'm sure the players or league don't want to be represented by someone saying he'll break someone's neck. Any way you look at it, it just wasn't appropriate or professional. |

You lookin' to get you DAMN neck broke??? -Gene |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
Few weeks ago I was standing in line at Starbuck's at Tyson's Corner Mall. Out of nowhere Gene U. rolls up to the newspaper stand which is near the register. He starts taking the newspaper apart like he was looking for a specific article, you know. So I'm like shit...that's Gene Upshaw!, let me get his autograph. I didn't have a pen or paper on hand and I was too far away from the front to get out of line to ask for one. Before I could get my hands on a pen, old Gene rolled out with the entire newspaper without paying one red cent! I thought it was hillarious!
I think I was the only one that even noticed!! |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
You can tell by Joe D's wording that he is laying the groundwork for a possible lawsuit.
Did the term 'emotional duress' come to mind when anyone else read that? |
Re: Gene Upshaw threatens retired player.
The reason for the " Old Timers" not liking Gene , is because ,,, HE IS ONE OF THEM . The players of today make enough $$$ in two or three years to set themselves up for life . The players of yesterday were taxed to death on what they made , had high inflation and massive interest rates to pay . Maybe Upshaw has no say in the matter , but he should make more of an effort to help the guys he played with . Of course the NFL , owners and current players could do something to help , i think it would be sad if they took no interst in the guys who are paying the price in health now for the sport they took to the top . We need to Remember , guys back in the day did not have the medical teams like the players of today , you blew out a knee before 1980 and you were as good as done in most cases .
