lebron, WOW
i know alot of you guys don't like Lebron James. with that out of the way, anyone watch last nights game? Lebron made just about every kind of shot imaginable. and carried Cleveland to the win. anyone think any of Cleveland other starters could start for any other team? what a bunch of scrubs. and i know smootsmack will argue about Larry Hughes, but me being a sixer fan, think Hughes is a big bust. all i have to say about Lebon is wow. and what a cheap ass foul by Mcdyess. usually a stand up guy, but needs to be suspended for that cheap play.
|
Re: lebron, WOW
Why would say I'd argue about Larry Hughes? He has all the talent in the world but he has yet to show in his entire career that he can stay healthy, and he is not a good complement to LeBron. The Wizards are much better off without him
As for Bron Bron, I don't understand the hate toward him. Actually, I do. It's that whole "we enjoy seeing successful guys fail" mentality. But he's a great player (improving each season), he has no personal/legal issues off the court, and the NBA is better off with people like him serving as the game's ambassador. I'm not a fan per se of James or the Cavaliers, but I certainly appreciate his talents and what they're doing. Of course, all that said I still believe with a healthy Caron and Arenas the Wizards would have beaten the Cavs in the first round. |
Re: lebron, WOW
As stated by the announcers, that was a very Jordanesque performance. The kid was amazaing....amazing. They will be talking about this one for a long, long time.
That being said, I think Cleveland just snatched the rug from under Detroit and will go on to face the Spurs in the championship. |
Re: lebron, WOW
Personally, I can't stand Lebron because of the Wizards-Cavs series from last season.
We won two games in the final seconds after blatantly traveling along the baseline, and yet he still has the nerve to bitch about every single call that goes against him. Granted, I should probably hate the refs more for letting him get away with that kind of crap, but my opinion of most of them is already low enough.I really feel like Lebron is just a big baby with a tremendous sense of entitlement because people have been calling him "King James" since he was 14. He's a spoiled brat (albeit a very good player) and I love to see him fail. |

I don't know, dude. If Cleveland gets pass Detroit....I think this series goes six games. |
Re: lebron, WOW
I guess the Spurs should just break out the brooms now.
Agreed, the Spurs will wipe the floor with the Cavs. Everyone's ready to anoint LeBron as the next great thing, and he may be. But let's not forget Tim Duncan is well on his way to a 4th title. He's unassuming, and definitely not flashy, but HE's the one we should be talking about as attempting to challenge Michael Jordan for best player ever status. |
Re: lebron, WOW
Duncan is great but let's not annoint them champs just yet.
Cleveland will be wise to take a couple pages from Utah's book. I think if Gibson can get going from the arc like Deron Williams did against the Spurs, Cleveland has a chance. |
Re: lebron, WOW
smootsmack, i just thought with the wizards connection you would have some good things to say about Hughes. i am also one not to follow the hype, usually. but with Lebrons ability, personality, and just the way he handles himself, I'm a fan

Give me some more credit than that. I am aware of the strengths and weaknesses of various teams, including (perhaps especially) my favorite teams. Just because I choose not to piss all over the Redskins (or Wizards in this case) at every opportunity like some here are apt to do, doesn't mean I'm blind to certain realities. |

Do you mean the way he handles himself on the court? That's probably the biggest reason that I can't stand him. If he misses a shot with a defender within 5' of him he'll bitch at the ref the whole way down the court saying that he was fouled. If me makes a shot and a defender is within 5' of him he'll bitch at the ref the whole way down the court saying that he was fouled. God forbid he actually gets called for travelling (which he does a lot), because the few times that he has been called for it he reacts like his mom just took the keys to his Ferrari from him. On numerous occasions I've seen him hold the ball while arguing with the refs about a call; he's even gone so far as to walk way from them with the ball still in his hands. If a normal player pulled something like that they'd get T'd up in a hot second but since the league already anointed him their most important player nothing ever seems to happen to him. I understand that the NBA has been giving preferential treatment to its superstars for years but I really feel like (up until this season) he hasn't really done anything to deserve that. |
Re: lebron, WOW
Well, for one thing what about when LeBron does get fouled and there's no call? Such as just the other day when Rip was all over him.
I think the whole notion that he complains all the time is way overblown. Yes he argues calls, who doesn't. But I don't think he's much worse than anyone else. But because of who he is, a big deal is made out of it. When Daniel Gibson complains about a call, does anyone care? |
Re: lebron, WOW
Do you guys like anybody in the NBA?
Is there a consensus "good guy" that everyone generally likes? |
Re: lebron, WOW
You're right, everyone does argue calls. I think it's funny that they had the crack down on the histrionics at the beginning of the season but then stopped around Christmas.
Lebron just seems to piss me off more than most players when he does it because I feel like he gets away with much more than someone like Gibson would because of who he is, or rather who he's supposed to become. Everytime I see him walk down the court with his arms stretched out, the ball in one hand, and his jaw half way to the floor because he was called for a walk I pray that the ref will actually grow some balls and T him up, but it never happens. You can't show up the refs like that! When he pulls that crap it looks like he's doing a Harlem Globetrotters routine or something. I can't wait for the day when Dick Bravetta tries to chase after him but ends up falling because Drew Gooden secretly tied his shoe laces together while Lebron had him distracted. Ok, new subject. Scroll down to #1 in this Bill Simmons' article for some good Lebron analysis. |
Well, for one thing what about when LeBron does get fouled and there's no call? Such as just the other day when Rip was all over him.
To be honest I didn't see the game. In fact, I've barely watched any of this round and I really doubt I'll watch the Finals.
I do understand that you're going to get pissed and complain if you're legitimately getting fouled up and down the court and the refs aren't calling it. I just hate it when that seems to turn into a player's default excuse for every shot that he misses. |

LOL that didn't take long before someone cut down Duncan. So again, is there a guy out there in the NBA that most people like? How about Nash? |

Re: lebron, WOW
I like Nash. I also like Wade, and I know I'll might get attacked for saying this after going off on Lebron but I love Iverson. I know most people wouldn't consider him a "good guy" as such, but he's the man, IMO.
I didn't start watching any basketball until my freshman year of college ('00-'01) and even then I pretty much just stuck to college, but I did watch the Eastern Conference Finals and the NBA Finals that year and that's when I developed my man-crush on AI. He would get creamed 90% of the times that he drove the lane and yet he'd hop right back up and continue to run around like Phillip the Hyper-hypo. it seemed like he could make any shot he wanted to and that no one could stop him. The 76ers did end up losing to the Lakers that year, but he was still the best part of the entire series for me. |

I'll tell you what, the Wizards top 3 players just happen to be 3 of the NBA Good Guys. Arenas, Butler, and Jamison. Make me proud to be a Wizards fan.

The fact that Butler overcame the crap from his teenage years and is now considered to be an NBA good guy has got to be a testament to him and to the people around him that have helped to make him into the man he is now. I agree with you 100%, he makes me proud to be a Wizards fan; those 3 all do. One rumor from Simmons that had me a bit concerned the other day is that we might trade Jamison for RUBEN PATTERSON! I really hope that doesn't happen, even if he is younger and has comparable skills. |
Re: lebron, WOW
The rumor was Patterson to the Wizards, Jamison to the Hawks and who knows what to the Blazers. I asked some reliable folk and it appears to be nothing more than some imaginary scenario created by the Chicago Tribune (or maybe it was the Sun-Times). Patterson is actually more likely to go to the Bulls.
|
Re: lebron, WOW
What's up with the intermitent chatter going around about Jamison being traded? I like AJ. He hits big shots and has the skill to take the team on his shoulders for a short time if Gil is hurt. Sure he plays defense as well as I would but it is not like anyone else on that team plays D. Although he he is a particularly poor defender.

Re: lebron, WOW
If Lebron makes the finals, he's a step farther than he was last season- even if they do get swept (but I don't think he'd let that happen). Remember, they lost in 7 to Detroit last year. Give him time- he's only three years removed from high school- and he doesn't have a Scotty Pippen or a Shaq on his team like Mike or Kobe. He's not surrounded by Matrices, STATs and a sick Nash-like PG. He's on the Cleveland Cavs, not some perennial winner...
He's going to evolve the game (much as I hated him for LeTravel against our boys) b/c of his ability to see the floor like Magic and take over a game like Mike in the 4th. Plus no one's seen a guy 6-8, 240 with his power, speed and agility. As for the rings, I'm willing to wager he'll have a few before his career is over. |
Re: lebron, WOW
I can't believe I'm going to say this as a Laker's fan, but go Spurs. I think Lebron is an amazing player for someone of his age and lack of development ie college, but I can't root for his team thanks to the consistent barage of the media slurping this guy. Now they are already calling him the next great legendary player?! I don't doubt he might be in another 10 years or so, but right now? he hasn't even won anything yet. I know for a fact if he keeps up his pace statistically he will finish his career as a top 10-15 player of all time if not higher, but for heavens sake he's only been in the league for 4 years so let's give him a chance to show he has longevity. It's the same with players like Crosby in hockey, a wide assortment of nfl players including Vince Young and Brady Quinn, a handful of mlb players, and upcoming nba players Durant and Oden. I just hate the mentality of today's media of crowning players before they've proven anything and forcing the idea of the next great player upon us and setting a lot of them up for nothing but being deemed a failure unless certain criteria are meet within a very short time frame.
|
Re: lebron, WOW
See for some reason LeBron choked once again. Although he had the ball in his hands, he did not take over the game like he is capable of. Honestly it looks like he doesnt want the ball in the 4th.
|
Re: lebron, WOW
your not trying to tell me he wasn't fouled at the end of a game? the NBA wants Duncan and the spurs to win. they are getting every call. if you want lebron to be a superstar, then give him the calls that go with it
|
Re: lebron, WOW
LeBron is very overrated. The Cavs suck and they had an easy road and now they gonna get swept. What a waste of a series. Man, I hate the Spurs though.
|
Re: lebron, WOW
the NBA wants Duncan and the spurs to win.
why would the nba want the most boring team ever to win the championship again? |
Re: lebron, WOW
First of all, LeBron was definitely fouled. However, the NBA (if anything) wanted-no, they needed-the Cavs to win that game. A four-game sweep is the last thing the NBA needs. Their ratings are tanking with each passing playoff game. Not a good thing as they sit at the table and negotiate a new deal with their television partners.

Re: lebron, WOW
why would the nba want the most boring team ever to win the championship again?
See, THAT is what is wrong with basketball. A REAL basketball fan can appreciate the fact that the Spurs play "old school" basketball. They play the game the way it's supposed to be played. None of that "look at me, I'm the only person on the court" b.s. It's a TEAM sport, and the Spurs are the definition of TEAM. I'm a Celtics fan, and WISH that the Celtics would get on the same boat as the Spurs. They have a recipe for winning that the other teams have yet to figure out. You call them boring...why? Cause they don't do the "flashy" stuff that the other losing teams do? Real basketball is not about flash, it's about the pure game. I hate what basketball has become, but I love to watch the spurs...it takes me back to the day of Bird and Magic...when the game was all about TEAM. |
Re: lebron, WOW
after watching the Germany game, and seeing all the United States games so far, Lebron has distanced himself( other then Wade) as the superior player in the world. if he brings his commitment back to the cavs, along with the addition of Williams, they could make another run at the finals. no one will beat team U.S.A if they stick to that ball hawking defense
