F... people at the gym

Specifically, F... people that don't understand what it means to let others work in when they are doing multiple sets.

This has really been bugging me for a while now. The 'Y' that I go to is pretty busy, and there are signs all over the place that say, "Please allow others to work in when doing multiple sets". I've never seen anyone follow this rule. There's nothing more annoying than waiting to use a machine when some jerkoff is doing 2-3 sets and resting for a few minutes in between each set. And they'll sit there and give YOU a dirty look like you're the one doing something wrong.

Re: F... people at the gym

Good ol' YMCA. I've worked at one for the past 3 years of my life, and i'll send up a good F... people a the gym! How about these:

-The guys that grunt all the time. Exhaling, Inhaling, doesn't really matter, just all the time.

-The ones who try and become inspirational leaders and tell their buddies that "YOU CAN DO IT! JUST ONE MORE SET! WOOF WOOF! YOU CAN DO IT! YEA YEA YEAAAAHH!"

-The talk of what they USE to be able to do. I've had one too many conversations about how much someone could bench back in the day.

-And the infamous, i'm going to do a set and sit on this machine and do nothing for the rest of the hour but talk. Usually used by older woman, but it is susceptable to everyone.

ALL problems that I have. Here's a problem I have at our gym in which the population is fairly sparse most of the time. I have the opposite problem of Matty. I'll be sitting doing multiple sets of something and the ENTIRE GYM is basically empty and someone comes over asking if they can work in. I'm like, "How about you go and find another machine or area until I'm done?"

If I see someone holding a sheet is the ONLY time I let them work in because I know that they're trying to do it in some kind of order. Otherwise, there's a ZILLION other things you can do during the 7-8 minutes I'm on this machine.

And I REALLY hate grunters. It's like, "Look how huge I AM!"

Bushead 05-01-2007 10:10 AM

Re: F... people at the gym

The inspirational leaders are the ones that get to me. Definetly when i'm working and they come over and try and inspire me. It really just scares me to have a big, steriod-filled man yelling at me about how i can do just one more.

I hate the blockheads that stare at themselves in the mirrors. There's this one guy specifically that just struts around staring at himself like he's a gift from god or something. I'm like dude get over yourself, he's not even that big.

HAHAHA. You have RANDOM people come over and do that to you? That would drive me insane.

Usually I see two muscle-round retards helping each other, screaming at each other.

Re: F... people at the gym

Don't you hate it when the gym employees tell you that you have to wear something over your workout thong? It like they don't understand that you need a full range of motion or something. I hate that.

Ok, I'm just kidding, I don't belong to a gym.

Yeah that's gross, but I don't care if someone is sweating or not, you should always wipe down the machine. It's common F'in courtesy.

I hate the meathead that wants to tell me a better way to do the exercise that I'm currently in the middle of doing. "Hey man, if you turn your hips you'll get a better burn in your quad". Thanks asshead. If I'm ever interested in looking leather skinned caveman, I'll take your advice.

haha...I go to a gym at a University...imagine all those problemsx10. We have guys that scream, grunt, take off their shirts, hog machines for HOURS, and even talk on cell phones in between reps...me and my buddy deal with it by giving them all hilarious names and playing the "dibbs" game. My all time favorites are the guys that wear wool caps in the summer time...WTF?? Does it make you stronger or something?

We have a couple of older fellows who like to talk about whatever it is you're doing...but somehow the conversation always turns into a lengthy discussion of their glory days. Ex: "I used to be able to lift that kind of weight before I tore my ACL in the state finals blah blah blah." THE FUTURE IS NOW OLD MAN!!!

How about people who talk on their cell phone while they're working out? Thats so effing annoying.

Last week this lady was talking on her cell phone while she was on the elyptical machine.....and the bitch was so loud. I really wanted to say something, but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it.

Re: F... people at the gym

Those problems are why I wait until after 7:30pm to go to the gym. Days I work from home, I'll go either by 10am or after 2, to avoid the morning and lunch rushes.

And while I encourage my buddy, I don't yell it so the entire gym can hear...the grunts actually make me laugh and I lose concentration.

My absolute fave is those who feel the need to talk or text on their phones while trying to work out. Put your goddamn phone down, bust out your rep and get the hell out of the way. If it's that important, you can call back later.

That and the women who wear as little as possible and shimmy their way into an area where all the lifters work out, and do absolutely nothing but get in the way. If I wanted to stare at scantily clad women, I'll either go to Hooters or a strip club. Now if you are barely wearing anything and doing your thing, great. However, if you talking to the damn guy who's using the weights I'm trying to use, you're a nuisance and should be taken out to the parking lot and flogged.

All of the posts in this thread are why I bought my own weight bench. :benched:

I just use the gym at my apartment complex. It's great because it's free and it's open 24 hours. And being the insomniac that I am I'll go at like 1am and there's no one there.

Actually one time I did go to the gym at 1:15am and sure enough there were two other people there working out!

These are all the reasons that I haven't been to the gym since college (plus I'm also really lazy).

Re: F... people at the gym

I have almost started this thread 50 times.

My gym has many of the same problems. One thing that kills me is on cardio days when I want to use an eliptical. Our gym has 15 of them but only 4 of them have the arm motion too. Invariably all four will have people on them while all the other machines don't and the asshats on the machines are not using the effin arm motions. It's like hey tard muffin use the other machine without the arms so someone can use the machine they want.

But the biggest F U to everyone in the whole place is in the locker room. I am not a keep covered up at all times guy but I am so sick and f*cking tired of guys walking around the GD locker room bare ass naked. Brushing their teeth naked. Drying their hair naked. Having 5 minute conversations naked. Weighing themselves naked. Shaving naked. Using the hair dryer to dry the entire body naked. F*CKERS!!!!!!

Put some f*cking clothes on you turd bag! It's funny because the old guys just walk around and don't give a crap but the younger ones walk around like they got 12 inch d*cks. And if you ever see a short guy with long hair it is guaranteed he'll be one of them. It is in the genes or somethin.

I'm lucky I only live about 5 minutes away, so I skip the whole locker room thing and just head right home.

F people that give me a look after I fart during my squats. If you're not farting, you're not lifting enough. ;)

Re: F... people at the gym

My beef with the gym is when people make it a damn fashion show. I live in a college town, and it's just comical. Girls go in there looking like they spent an hour on their hair and make up, and guys will actually spike their hair and wear cologne. Nothing like sitting down on a bench that is sticky with hair gel and smelling like Abercrombie and Fitch. We're at the gym people!! Gainesville Health and Fitness is actually jokingly called "Gainesville Hair and Fashion" by a bunch of us non-gel wearing, non-cologne spraying normal folks.

And I hear ya about the farting when you squat thing Sheriff. Just make sure the fart doesn't turn into a shart. That would be pretty embarrassing!!

GMScud 05-01-2007 01:59 PM

Re: F... people at the gym

And another thing- is it a requirement to walk around buck naked in the locker room when you're over 60?? What kills me is they are totally nude, with their towel OVER THEIR SHOULDER!! Hello?? How hard is it to tie that damn thing around your waist? You think anyone wants to see your old, shriveled package?? Gross...

That's what we have around here at W&L in Lexington. I go to the gym and girls most definitely have to PREPARE to go. The majority of them have the bottom parts of their ass cheeks hanging out while they're doing the stair stepper.

I would take some pics for you, but that's the reason I got this job. My predecessor got fired for taking lewd videos in the gym.

Kidding, but not about the reason my predecessor got fired. :D
