I hate him. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
He needs to do this in October, not April.

I agree Redskins_P

Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Don't you have to win in April in order to get to October?
I honestly feel bad for the guy, he's in a no-win situation. If he plays well people say let's see if he can do this in October. If he struggles people say he stinks. I agree he needs to step it up in big games, and he's certainly brought alot of his troubles on himself. But I still think he's under a white-hot spotlight and he's over-analyzed to a ridiculous degree. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
New Yorkers have a very short memory. He'll be toast in October.
|
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Perception is reality Matty. A-Rod is one of the best players in the game, perhaps the history of the game. And there have been several games in the post-season where he's been clutch. But overall he hasn't been dominant in the post-season like he has in the regular season. And it doesn't help playing next to one of the game's most clutch post-season players in Derek Jeter.
|
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
I wonder though, let's say he has an incredible season this year and continues to be dominant right through the postseason. Will the monkey be officially off his back, or will people say let's see him do this again next year?

It will never be enough. He'll get celebrated this year, and if he tanks the following, it will be right back to square one. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
arod is one of those guys that no matter what he does, it will never be enough. one helluva of a ball player, and probably future hall of famer
|
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Probably a Hall of Famer? Ha. If he retired TODAY, he could make it in.
A-Rod is amazing this year. My wife, the Yankeroos fan is very happy about it. I believe we're watching something great right now. At the end of his career, he'll crush the Aaron (& Bonds) homer record. He'll be at the top of a LOT of records. He'll hit the 500 home run list this year. 7 more years to the top of the list. In a few months, A-Rod will be youngest player to reach 500 HRs, beating out Jimmie Foxx (current youngest) by almost a full year. He'll beat Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays to the 500 mark by 2.5 years each and Bonds and Frank Robinson by just under 5 years. Beating Mantle by 3 years and Ted Williams by 9 years! Right now, A-Rod has 6824 career ABs. Hank Aaron had 12,364. Rodriguez is WAY ahead of Aaron's pace if he can play as long as Hank did. A-Rod is in his 12th full season. Aaron played 23 years. It's still possible to play that long. Biggio is in his 20th year. Ripken played 21. Bonds is in year 22 and just reaching Aaron. Molitor played 21. Boggs played 18. Rueben Sierra is in year 20. All time RBI record? Aaron's 2297 could be within reach. A-Rod has 1373. A-Rod can reach in about 7-8 years. Rose's hits? 4256? Probably not...but I think he could get 3500 to crack the top 5. He's at 2087 now. It'll take A-Rod about a dozen or baker's dozen of years for that. Rose holds the record for most ABs ever with 14,053. That won't be reached by anyone for a long time, if ever. Don't worry, Boston fans, he will have a few rings by the end of his career. I'm not a Yankees fan but I can't help but root for A-Rod just because of the jerks in the media, Boston and even in the Bronx. It's nice to see him shutting up people right now. I think it will last all season (and career) too. I saw a side-by-side comparison of his swing from last year (and his "horrible" 35 HR/121 RBI season) and it was quite telling. Last year's swing looked bad. He wasn't focused on the ball, wasn't staying in on his swing (bailing out) and his swing just looked shaky. His swing and stance are fixed this year. True, like Peyton Manning. Isn't it interesting though that both of these guys are MOST hated by people in Boston? That's not a coincidence aboout our New England sports fans, they just love to hate people. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
A-Rod is nothing but class. 5 Tool ball player, and changed positions mid-career to allow a teammate not to have to do the same.
However, Yankee fans, and those who dislike A-Rod will always find something to criticize him about. Whether it's his contract, or his annual post-season choke. What fans don't understand is that it takes 25 players to make a ball team good, not the fate of the club rests on 1 person's shoulders. |

In fact, he was on his way to being one of the best shortstops ever...and moved to 3B so Jeter's performance wouldn't go down when he arrived in NY. It had a learning curve, but he's getting the new position down well. Jeter is freaking amazing in the field. I saw him in Baltimore last year (took the wife to a NY game, so she owes me the White Sox game this year) and he made an incredible no-look backwards flip to Roberts to start a DP. He fielded the ball in the OF on the first-base side of second, WAY out of any other SS's range. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
As much as I love to hate Jeter, you can't deny that he's a great ball player.

He has always been a nice guy, and it just stupid the way NY fans boo him. I hope he leaves next year, but I do root for him. Totally agree with you on this one. My older brother is a huge Yankee fan, and the only thing we ever agree on is A-rod. I hate the rest of them. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
I don't see why Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Mussina, and Petitte (among others) should be hated.

I was raised to hate the Yankees, born an O's fan. It's not logical to hate them, but I just do. To be perfectly honest, since becoming a Nationals fan it's been hard to accept that there is no reason to dislike them anymore. I was actually recently re-united with my older brother about 6 months ago. I never had met him before, and liking A-rod is kind of my way to find some way to talk about baseball with him. I rejoiced to the heavens when I found out he was as die hard of a Redskins fan as I was, and It's been really rewarding experience (found out I was an uncle!). And, yes, your right there really is no logic to me disliking the rest of the Yanks, but it's hard to get the O's out of me. |

I respect Jeter because I dont know how you cant. He is an amazing player. As for the hatred, I think people hate the Yankees because of the MLB salary cap setup, or lack thereof. I really hate that in the MLB, and they are just buying championships. That is just stupid, and each team is like a colored marble in a bag, but Yankees have about 50x more marbles than other teams and get an unfair advantage. When they lose it makes me feel good, a kind of defeating the man feeling. |

The MLB has had a different champion each year for the past seven years (or something like that). None of the other major pro leagues can claim that. There are a lot of teams in MLB that could spend more money yet choose not to, or spend it in other ways. The Yankees shouldn't be faulted for that. |

Yet the Yankees are always in contention for a title. Why are they in that position? It isnt because the Yankees are much better than every other organization. It is because they can afford to pay tons of money and get players like Jeter, A-Rod, and others on one team. It is like a dream team in the NBA playing regular NBA teams. It simply isn't fair. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
I also dont fault the Yankees, I blame MLB for having such a shitty system.

Well I never said I hated Yankees players. I respect most that I think are good. I just hate the system and I cant hate the Yankees front office too. Their organization will not want change either, because it will end their chances of buying championships in the future. |

Well the "player" being the Yankees in this case. Others should take more advantage of the system, but they don't. Or they do in different ways. Like the Brewers who decided instead of going after big name free agents they'd invest heavily in their minor league system. |

Ok, but wouldnt you like to see the MLB adopting a stricter policy on a salary cap, and amount spent on players/potentials? I think it would be great for the game, but it wont happen. |

That's just it. I disagree that A-rod is in a no win situation. When you win people shut up. People said Billy Donovan and Peyton Manning couldn't get it done, and now people don't say that anymore. It's hard to feel sorry for a guy who makes that much money, especially when he hasn't been able to justify his contract at the most important times. Either win the world series or at least play well in the postseason. I don't think that's too much to ask from one of the game's best players. |

The NY fans are just like the homeless, once you give them change they will forget right away. Once A-Rod does well, or they win a series, the fans will forget right away. I dont buy that since he makes a ton of money people should be able to boo him. That is just terrible. If anything since he such a good proven player, he should get a benefit of the doubt and the fans should STFU. |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Anyone watching the Yankees game right now!!??!
The Yankees were up 3-0 and the Red Sox just hit three straight home runs!!! Its 3-3 now. Wow amazing game guys, you guys should switch over. |

Like a hard cap for each team? |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Holy shit, they just hit the 4th in a row!!!
all in the bottom of the 3rd...4 straight homeruns to take the lead... 4-3 |
Re: A-Rod is red-hot
First time in Sox history, 4 HRs in a row.
Last time this was done in the MLB was 40 years ago....wow... |

Yeah atleast for the payroll, some other kind of cap on other spending like D-league. |

I'm from Boston, I used to have season tickets til I moved away in 97...I gave the tickets to my brother. I had tickets to game 6 of the 04 world series, but we swept...so I was there for the parade and took all sorts of pictures. I dedicated one room to the 04 red sox...I even have an autographed baseball from every Red Sox player that started in the world series that year. Damon, Ramirez, Pedro...all of them. I have autographed pictures...I have the complete danbury mint gold cards for the 04 sox. I went crazy. I still get chills when I think about that team coming back from 3 games down vs the evil empire to win it all. ps- the Yanks are cursed and no one knows it. I call it the curse of the Moose. When they overpaid for him, they haven't won since. The curse is due to their ability to overspend "because they can". |
