Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

Per NFL Network, I'll call it a rumor until I have a link.

I just want him to be a Redskin again so I can yell SMOOOOOOOOOOT at the games... :)

What number would Silky Johnson wear if he came back here?

(I really don't care, I just wanted to use "Silky Johnson" in a sentence)

I don't think he'll get another chance here, after the boat incident.

At least, I HOPE NOT.

He'd make a perfect Cowboy or Raider though.

"Rumor ... Officially Released?" An official rumor? Haha. Just breaking your balls Gmanc.

I'd be happy to have him back. Now he won't be able to ask for so much money.

Re: Rumor: Smoot Officially Released

After the boat incident?! Come on now, CP is the same way, he talked at length about it on the radio.

He just didn't do it on a public stage.

I'd welcome Smoot back with open arms. Cooooooooooooley and Smoooooooooooot. Excellent.

Re: Rumor: Smoot Officially Released

Seriously the 'boat incident' while embarassing can't be compared to most other notable NFL transgressions. So he and a bunch of players were on a boat where they were partying with strippers and having sex. OH MY!!! Please. The Vikings and the media made a big deal out of it but if that factored into the reason they cut him or why we shouldn't sign him then we might as well cut half the players in the league. That type of stuff happens a lot. If he got caught doing lines or shooting up a club or banging a stripper's head against the floor then I'd say we need to be careful but for pete's sake he was on a boat with strippers. I don't get why they were SO maligned for it.

The NFL network doesn't spread rumors. If they say so then it is done. No link needed to prove to me.

Re: Rumor: Smoot Officially Released

Plus, I think Smoot has grown up a lot since the boat incident. If I can change, and Smoot can change, then everybody can change!

Come on now, how many people can say they've never snorted a gram of blow off a hooker's ass?

Seriously, the boat incident wasn't THAT bad. If you read the Maxim article about a year ago, it's basically an expensive version of ANYONE'S typical visit to a strip club/whore house.

Smooty will be at Reskins' Park by next Wednesday.

I'm sure worse things happen that we don't hear about... the only difference is these guys got caught. It still doesn't make it right, just sayin'.

When you compare what happened with Smoot to what Sean Taylor did I think Smoot looks almost like an angel. As long as Smoot doesn't do anything that alters his physical play or lands him in jail for an extended period I am cool with the Skins signing him. If character is such an issue with being a "Core Skin" than according to your theory the Skins would not have given Sean Taylor "another chance here".

YES !!!!! BRING SMOOTY FLAKES BACK !!!!!

That was my dog ! I met him at the draft party when Washington took Sean Taylor, he was cool. Get that guy back in Washington ! For less money too ! Let's go Danny Boy !!!

I disagree. It wasn't right for the MARRIED guys on that cruise, but Smoot was single, the girls were working girls, they got their money. The morality can be argued of whether whoring yourself is right or wrong, but really, I can't see anything wrong with what he did.

Come on he had it on a BOAT, does it GET any more classy than that?! ;)

Okay, here's what's running through my mind.

Release Springs...bring in Smoot, sign Clements..and get one hella DT/DE in the draft.

This could be an interesting week fellas!

Yeah I think when we talk about 'character' guys I am talking about guys who aren't getting arrested for shooting up a house or snorting blow every other Thrusday. I am not talking about guys who sleep around and have sex with strippers for money. There are lots of people who do that(and it's not right) but it doesn't affect their ability to be good people in other aspects of their life and be good role models. They got caught. Tsk Tsk. Now let's move on. Get the thugs out of sports, not the questionably moraled.

Well, they were breaking the law by holding these 'festivities' in public view, right?

Re: Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

So how much $ is he worth?
I say no more than a $5mil signing bonus & 3-4 years. Problem is he'll still feel he deserves to be paid by the Skins cause we let him sign w/the vikes. Hopefully he'll have some sentimental attachment & sign for reasonable $.

All I know is he's worth less than what he originally wanted here before he left. He doesn't have the same leverage that he once had.

Private boat. I would assume they we're counting on the discretion of the crew. They needed to do a little more due diligence in terms of what the crew would be okay with. But they weren't at some bar where anyone could walk in. Slight difference but not toally irrelevant to me.

Re: Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

I'd rather have Smoot over Bly and over a hugely paid Clements. I am still counting on Rogers progressing. He wasn't as bad last year as it seemed. Springs needs to restructure. I don't get why it is so sticky.

Private boat on public waters though, weren't they out on the deck partying it up at some point?

Same here. I don't see what all the talk over Bly is about. Maybe I missed something.

I wonder with Springs if they are trying to work a incentive based deal based on games played? In other words, the more games he misses due to injuries, it cuts into his contract.

Re: Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

Yeah, there's no way he's worth now, after being released by a team, what he was when he left Washington via FA a few years ago. At the same time though, his agent might realize that the Skins need a lot of help in the secondary and that could drive up the price a little bit.

JoeRedskin 03-01-2007 11:41 AM

Re: Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

Who knows, maybe he turns out to be our Jeremiah Trotter - Comes back to his original team after chasing big FA bucks and turns in a pro-bowl performance or two.
Well, they were breaking the law by holding these 'festivities' in public view, right?
I don't think it was public view so much as the crew of the boat got pissed.

They were probably just pissed they couldn't enjoy the party!

FRPLG 03-01-2007 11:45 AM

Re: Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

Our needs shouldn't up the price. The market will set it. They have no leverage to charge us more than whatever anyone else will pay regardless of our needs. If they base their decision on our needs they would be doing it just to be jerks. Basically they'd be saying..."I'll take less to sign somewhere else because we want you to overpay for us."

Re: Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

Suppose Smooty and Ryan Clark end up coming back here?

That along with Ramsey being cut and not making in NY....man would some of us have to eat some crow!
I don't either, I think our best hope will be Smoot and/or Bly.
If we sign both, do one of these guys play as a nickel? I would think that would be a waste unless we're saying something about Rogers.

MonkFan4Life 03-01-2007 11:49 AM

Re: Per NFL Network: Smoot Officially Released

I'd be fine eating crow on Clark, I don't see Ramsey coming back even though I wouldn't mind it. I didn't want to see him leave or Smoot. But Clark ? I was ready for it after he got stiff armed by LT for the winning TD. I surely missed him last year though !
