Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
Why have the Redskins not re-signed Derrick Dockery yet? This is getting ridiculous i am getting the fred smoot, antonio pierce feeling again
|
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I think maybe that the redskins are going to try and get another guard who is more mobile than dockery and that is a better fit for this al saunders offense. Maybe we should stop judging the front office and see what happens this year.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
but why break up one of the best offensive lines in football they are very physical running game was 4th in the league this year

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
Who says he won't be re-signed?
Chill and see what happens. |

Until they put a good football team on the feild, I have absolutley no trust in this front office, they need to re-earn trust from us fans, in my opinon. God I'm freaking out already lol. |
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I'm so glad someone finally started a Dockery thread. Why has this taken so long to start a thread about Dock?
|
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I generally feel that the skins are gonna let him walk away just like everyone else has. if they go after someone more mobile, who is out there?

I wanted to start a dockery thread but i couldn't b/c I was eating pie and pondering Question 3. I, too, am so glad a dockery thread was started so that I may make a comment in a dockery thread because, since i couldn't start a dockery thread, commenting in a dockery thread would a useful and intelligent way to spend my day. So I will proceed to make a comment in the dockery thread so that the dockery thread can continue to provoke deep and thoughtful discussion in the dockery thread as the dockery thread is an original and unique place to comment on dockery. So here is my comment in the dockery thread: Comment. |

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
There is still time. Perhaps the FO has set a limit on Dock and Dock and his agent are asking for more than the limit. That's what it looks like to me.
Perhaps another guard is on the FO's radar. If they let him walk then so be it. If they want a more mobile guard it would not bother me. Saunders likes to run the sweep plays and that's not what Dock is good at. Versatility is what Saunders is all about. |
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
Washington needs to resign Dock for no other reason than to show the locker room that they are willing to take care of their own. You hear Coach Gibbs talk about core redskins then you watch them throw loads of money at some big name free agent while forgetting about the core redskins, you can't underestimate what this does to a locker room. I hope that they have learned their lesson because if they haven't we could be in for another long long season.

Perhaps Dock is asking for too much. |

If Dockery wanted to sign here, they would have worked something out by now. I'm sure he'd like to see what his value on the market is before taking the Skins offer, and that's what the NFL combine is for. |

If a deal doesn't get done, it's not any more our fault than his. From what I understand, we aren't lowballing him or anything. I just don't think he's going to sign here before talking to some other teams at the combine.
If he can find a very lucrative deal, he's gonna walk. The only thing that would be our fault is if we further compromised our future to prevent him from walking by coming over the top. Conversely, if he finds that the market has little interest in him, I think he will be locked up through 2011 by this time next week. |
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I agree that you don't want to overpay for his services but this is the corner washington has painted itself into, if they don't resign him then they have to go out and sign someone else to start (because we haven't developed anyone behind him to step in and start, but thats another thread for another time) then you have to fight the preception that they won't take care of their own free agents. Because we all know that if he leaves the FO will go throw a lot of money at some other FA guard and then in a year from now we will be talking about Dockery just like Ryan clark.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
This thread is just like the John Jansen thread and how he might be gone this year. Stop jumping to conclusions on everything that has or has not happened. I keep seeing people getting mad over things they "THINK" the skins might do and they have not done anything as of yet.

There's going to be some resentment in every locker room if you let a high character guy walk, but that's just the nature of the game. It's February, guys will get over it. We just have to make sure to make the right business decision, and that's to not get desperate here. If Dockery is going to sign with the first team who gives him a big contract, hopefully that's not going to be us.

Had we taken the path of least action with JJ, he would have been back anyway. If we do that with Dockery, he's gone.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
the time to get another OG to replace dockery was last year when we had 2nd and 3rd round picks, the draft was deep there, and there'd be a year to get the new guy ready. this isn't the year to try and find someone else with little cap room and no draft picks.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
Q: Is it important for this team to maintain stability on the roster as much as possible?
A: "It all boils down to the [personnel officials] knowing what they have. You can't listen to outsiders who say, 'This [player] hasn't done anything for this team.' Some guys may not have had a fair chance to show what they can do. With that in mind, the only thing you can do is try to bring everybody back and hopefully things go a little bit better. You have a new offense, new quarterback, new running back, and as far as getting something out of it, you can see promise for next season." This was Santana Moss in a Redskins.com interview. If The Skins don't sign Dock longterm they are on Mars. Seeing him develope under Bugel has been awesome. He came in a fat mush and now he's got Pro Bowl potential (maybe I'm bias a bit). Keep ALL (96%) the players and upgrade through the draft for Defense. Maybe one or two free agents and that's it......... |

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I'm all in favor of keeping Dock at a fair price... we can't let him name his price just for the sake of trying to correct the wrongs of the past.
He's not the top guard available, I think we'll wait and see how high the bar is set by the signings of guys like Steinbach and move to re-sign Dockery accordingly. |
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
as far as im concerned, dockery has proven he can be an integral part of one of the top o-lines in the league. id give him a similar contract to steinbach because we need to learn to establish that once you come here, perform well, and show improvement that we'll overpay for our OWN.
|
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
How much would it cost to put the franchise tag on him? Is it already too late for that anyway?
|
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
So I asked here at work what the real scoop is and apparently Dock (well, his agent I suppose) is asking for serious money. As in he wants to be the highest paid offensive lineman (includes tackles, not just guards) in the NFL. The market is apparently a little cool for him so the Skins expect he'll lower his demands.
Anyhow, that's the latest |
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I don't think we need to overpay for Dockery, we need to pay a fair market price and if someone else wants to give him a ridiculous contract, oh well.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
my worry is... say we let him walk and steinbach signs with another team.. where do we go from there?!
|
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
Make him a good reasonable offer, and try to accomodate him within reason. If that's not in the cards.......see ya'
|
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
he's not even the SECOND best OL on his own line, so why should he get paid more than hutch or jones? that's insane.

not too late, but all OLinemen are clumped together: Franchise tag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia franchising him would cost 9.6mill for this year. that's just not happening. |
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
We had one of the best offensive running attacks in the NFL last year. We gave up almost the fewest sacks last year. Why would we mess that up? Pay him and move on. If they didn't mess around during the season we would not be at this point.
Samuels is on record begging for Dock to be back. I just don't see good things for our future if we leave via free agency. Its more of a morale / chemistry issue in the locker room. Gibbs always preaches "core" Redskins. Dock never says a word and shows up to play with constant improvment...... |

Thanks. I find it funny that he thinks he deserves to make so much money when he's never made the Pro Bowl. Although, I guess he sees how much money the FO throws around and figures he might as well dip his giant hand in the honeypot too. |

I'm not sure what he's asking or what we're offering. He should make at least at much as Randy Thomas. Dock is younger too. Not sure what the hold up could be. They are being very hush hush about it. Maybe we should relax and see what they do first. Does anyone know why its taking so long??? |
Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
This is the perfect example of why the draft is so important, if we can't resign him and some other team is willing to throw a huge contract at him we will be in a tough spot because we don't have a 2nd, 3rd, or even a 4th rd pick to fill that need so then we'll end up being force to over pay for some vet. I hope he comes to his sense and signs with the Skins.
