I wouldn't mind the Skins using money saved from cap cuts to sign one of these guys.

I have had about enough of high dollar free agent signings but I think they should go after just Freeney and then focus on the draft. I think he would show up and provide enough of an impact to warrant the amount of money required to sign him.

No way Indy lets Freeney go without applying the franchise tag first. Then any team signing him would owe Indy TWO 1st round picks as compensation. I want no part of that. Use our 2007 1st round pick to select the best DE available - that would make much more sense regarding the cap.

Indy gonna let freeny go just like they let Edge

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents

There are some good LBs on that list.

Freeney is one of the few players in the game worth breaking the bank for. There's no issue with fitting into a system or some crap like that. He's going to get sacks based on pure speed alone. You can't coach speed, and he's got gobbs of if.

Too bad the Colts will NEVER let him get away. Franchise tag all the way.

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents

Freeney would be a nice luxury if we were only a player or two away, but we need more help than just one player.

I would like to see us go after guys like Briggs or Thomas at LB, Justin Smith at DE, and Clements or Samuel at CB.

I thought Ramsey was a FA. Don't you consider him to be "Top". I guarantee you someone will say we should bring him back. I guarantee it.

I dont want Freeny, If we are to get a FA I'd perfer to get Jarred Allen, then Justin Smith, then Dwight Freeny.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Thomas and Briggs are very solid. I like Morris too. He could be a cheap improvment at MLB, but I think GW likes his mikes to be more althletic.

crappy FA class. freeney probably won't be available, clements is a stud. LB is REALLY deep in starters though, and there are some decent rbs.

can't compete with last year's brees, kampman, wayne, TO, vinetari, etc though.

Screw Free agency. Only position we should go after through free agency is DE possibly

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents

Wow, I can't believe more people aren't saying something about Brown and Lindell. We need a kicker guys! And bad! Obviously we all know how having a poor kicker can hurt. We need one capable of kicking 50+ yarders, and how about a kicker that has the capability of hitting 80%+ of their kicks?
Lindell has hit 79.3%+ of his kicks in 4 out of 6 years (not including this year since it's not over)
Brown has hit 78.8% of his career kicks. He has a prime time leg too. I watched him kick a couple years ago when I went to Seattle to watch the Skins game, and he was hitting warm ups from 60 yards.
Both of these guys can be clutch kickers. Do we even remember the last time we had that? Can anyone say Chip Lohmiller?

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents

Throw a dart at a paper with all the available DB's (that means UFA, no RFA's) and I'll take them. That's how bad we need CB's. No more Kenny Wright PLEEEEEASE!

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents

Nice post but.......NO MORE FREE AGENTS. Well, maybe Josh Brown and that's it! Lance Briggs would be nice too. He's a beast. Allen would be nice coming off the edge. And Clemets knows Williams and Grey from there Buff. days. Gas up Redskins One. Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!

and a kicker!

You really think we have top nfl egoes? I don't. I think we have a lot of players that have stuck it out with us because they believe in our "team" concept. Egoes would not allow that.

The problem with Freeney as was pointed out in an article I read today was that the Colts do not require their DE's to play the run...they turn them loose on the QB every play. The skins defense system requires DE's to play the run first. We have no idea if Freeney can play the run for one since he doesn't do it...and if he is playing the run will we get the same pass rush numbers that he generates in Indy? He could be risky for the $ he is going to get.

Freeney's side of the line gets run over a good bit. He's quick as some db's but he isn't going to be any better a run stopper than AC. I don't think we can have 2 guys like that at their prices.

Josh Brown would also solve our kickoff woes. The guy consistently puts the ball inside the 5-yard line. He would certainly do more for the team than John Hall did after his repeated injuries.
