Will $50 really make a difference?
I read on Redskins.com that the O-Line is going to be enforcing a $25-50 fine for every flag against one of them and then the person who delivers the best block in the game will win the money. It is void if we win the game. My question is, with the amount of money these guys make a year is $50 really going to stop you from getting flagged? I am thinking not, but thought it was worth a discussion.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
I don't think the amount matters, it's just the fact that the players are "policing" themselves and it comes down to a pride issue more than anything. I'm sure they have fun with it.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
Cash money you win from your buddies in your pocket matters to everybody.
It is a war trophy -- and the wife doesn't get her hands on it. |
Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
With the way we were racking up penalty yards $50 x 10 = $500, which I still believe can buy a nice expensive dinner for two...maybe even a one night hotel stay too.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
They should give the D-line 500 for every sack.......3 total sacks is just ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
Yeah, it isn't about the money, it's about taking responsibility for your actions.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
its a good move, it's a morale thing, and it may help guys realize when they need to be more focused.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
I like to use motivation along the lines of Spies Like Us: "For every flag, I cut off a finger."

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
those fines are announced in front of the whole team, i think. maybe alittle bit embarrassing. the money isnt the motivator

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
Dockery would've gotten it last game for his "double-block" that busted a huge hole to run through. That was amazing.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
they should make it retroactive...and then use the fundage to get some hookers and a boat...wait, that's already been done.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
Didnt Gibbs used to do stuff like this in his first time with the team, but he used like parking spots and stuff... It wasnt the parking spot but the self-pride and the sense of accomplishment for the player. Like stated earlier in this thread the money isnt the motivator its the sense of accomplishment and competivitness between the o-line.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
nah, do like in major league ... get a stripper, and remove a piece of clothing for each game w/o penalties :)

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
It's like when George Allen gave away t.v.'s and such. It's not the prize so much as being recognized by your coaches and teammates.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
Hey, atleast they care enough to do SOMETHING about it on a personal level.

Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
No way will this make a difference. These guys fart 20 and 50 dollar bills.
Go old school and make them stay on the practice field 10 minutes additional for each infraction. Their time is more valuable to them |
Re: Will $50 really make a difference?
one time I thought I had farted a $20 bill ... but it was only a single :(
