Portis Interview 9/9
I just checked out a new video that was posted on redskins.com and they were talking directly to Portis who says he is 6% away from being ready to go. He says he felt 10% better than yesterday and if he can feel another 6% better between now and Monday he is a go. All serious, physical practices are done before the game so he will have no contact between now and game time and he said that helps because he can just stretch it out and seee how it feels. This is crazy, yesterday he was eyeing week 2 now it's looking much better for Monday Night???

Re: Portis Interview 9/9
i just heard on sports talk 980 that he will play ,but will back up betts so he is the number 2 or 3 option
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9

i swear and they even had gibbs talking about how portis will play in a reduced backup role to betts. watch, you'll see oooooohhhh you'll see! |
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
I hope he's not rushing himself and dislocate his shoulder again. I think Betts and Duckett will do a good job filling in for Portis.
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
My man's jerking the press around with the 85%, 95% bs talk. No way he doesn't play on MNF.
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
Maybe he should dress to make himself feel better, but Betts/TJ got this game. This is a big game but why risk anything. Risk is what put him in this perdicament. I'd be fine with him sitting this one out. Surely he shouldn't go in the first half at all. I think this would be a good time to get TJ involved and let him loose. It is good to hear that he is getting better but it seems way to earlier to lay it on the line for just the Vike's.

Re: Portis Interview 9/9
I told you guys, this is all "cageyness" to play with the Viking's heads. If he can play, why would he backup Betts or Duckett? I caught all of those quirkly little sly grins on his face during that interview today. I am saying right now he will be starting on Monday night! I don't know how effectiive he will be and I would not start him at RB for my Fantasy team if I were any of you, but he will play. All of the 93.6% ready and "I'll be 96% ready tomorrow" stuff is his character stuff coming out. He is feeling good and Gibbs told him to keep it hush-hush, and he can't hardly do it! Rock on Portis!!!

Re: Portis Interview 9/9
Sounds like a little bit of Strategy. Lets hope he doesn't fumble when he takes a lick on that shoulder though or reaggravate it.
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
I have said all along. The man will play. The more they said he wouldn't the more convinced I was that he would.
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
damn, should i start him in fantasy? him or gore?
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
Smoke and mirrors... I've felt like that all pre-season. I feel like we are all being tricked into being worried when really we have NOTHING to worry about!
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
Just listened to the interview, Portis is gonna play. I mean, his whole demeanor really let the cat out the bag.

Re: Portis Interview 9/9
"They say they want to wait until I can bench 285, but I keep telling them, I've never benched 285 in my whole life."
Good ol' Portis. He wouldn't want to miss the fun. |
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
Can't wait til Monday!!!!
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
Man I thought I was getting excited, then I listened to this interview- now I am flat out fired up!
After I heard CP's interviewe and listened to a couple of short bites from Moss, these guys seem very cocky, much more than last year. I can't wait to see how we shake out. |
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
I think Portis is just to trying to mess with Fantasy Football players' heads. I wish he hadn't slipped all the way down to #9. Oh well, when he ends up rushing for 1800 yards and 20 TDs I'll be happy.

Dude, are you still hung over? |
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
I just have to post again because I am so excited about Portis's interview today!!! Portis will play, AND he will start! Why, if he is available, would he back up anyone? What is that all about. Is Gibbs throwing a bone to Betts? All this injury stuff is BS. Shawn Springs is the only guy we won't see on the field on Monday!

I think that the skins have game planned for Betts to be in the game. Portis got well enough to have some plays scripted for him and his talents and Gibbs is just so worried about every game that he really wants Portis available. If we go up a couple of TDs, we probably won't see any more Portis till Dallas. If Betts is not effective and we fall behind, expect to see lots of Portis. |
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
I just think it's effin hysterical that he declared himself 93.9% healthy after today's practice. He then said that playing on Monday gave him an extra day, meaning he's hoping to get to 99% healthy so he can then be a game-time decision. He said that if he played Sunday, he'd probably only be 98.5% healthy, and that wouldn't be good.
Then after that interview he went in and got a shower. On his way out to his car he said to the reporter, now after the shower I feel 96.1% healthy. LOL You know when he starts joking around, that means he's playing in all likelihood. No costume this week, but that interview was just as funny. Re: Portis Interview 9/9
This doesn't make any sense.
If he's well enough to play, but not well enough to start, what difference does it make if he spells Betts here and there for 10 carries or so? Even in a limited role the same thing could happen -- he can re-dislocate his shoulder. The chance of that happening doesn't decrease simply because he's lower on the depth chart by one position. To me, the thought of Portis coming back early doesn't get me excited, it only makes me nervous. We'll be fine for one game against the Vikings with Betts, Duckett, and Cartwright. Why not give him just one more week to completely heal up? |

But they may want to avoid using him in pass protection where he has to throw that shoulder into a blitzing LB. Who knows what Saunders is going to do though. They might designate Portis as the backup just so they can see how Betts does in there. If Betts is effective why even put Portis in. If Betts sucks and the Skins need a boost, then maybe Saunders will unleash the hound. Lots of variables at play. I'm sure they're taking every precaution with him. In the end we have no idea what the plan is, the coaches are being very shady lately, very secretive. |
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
you can tell portis is perfectly fine by the way hes talking...i think he'll start, or at least get most of the carries...they'll probably take him out more on passing downs so he doesnt have to block as much

Re: Portis Interview 9/9
damn portis!!! do i start you on fantasy football or not!
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
the whole portis thing was probably so they couldnt game plan for us, a fast agile back or a north south type of runner, if he plays we have both
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
man, i hope our national security is as tight as the redskins have been this preseason. seems like everything is top secret
|
Re: Portis Interview 9/9
its a question of playing possum. I hope portis is available in some capacity even if it is as a decoy. We need him to dress for the game. We have roughly 33 hours and all questions will be answered. I truly believe its a gametime decision. But i do have some faith in the running back by committee philsophy if he cant go. A little ladell, a little rock and a little tj. go skins.
