Re: Skins add OL Wade
Scouts Inc. Profile:
Full Name: Todd McLaurin Wade Born: October 30, 1976 Greenwood, MS Height: 6-8 Weight: 317 lbs. Age: 29 Pos: OT Experience: 7 years College: Mississippi Drafted: Year:2000 Round:2 Pick:22, Dolphins Shows some ability to move lateral and position block. Has some ability to cut-off on the second level. Will battle in-line. Plays with solid balance. Can wall off in-line. Shows some ability to pull to the short side and make some contact. Will lunge and go down off the snap. Gets his legs locked on base blocks and will have his body too far forward - he is a waist-bender. Needs more consistency with hand placement. Will fire off the ball and miss in short yardage situations. He looks stiff on his pass set slide. Gets his shoulders turned, will give up angles to the quarterback. Has a hard time vs. bull rushers, gives too much ground - has late hands and gets out-leveraged. Falls off chip blocks. He has a big wind-up on his punch. |
Re: Skins add OL Wade
good pickup as a backup
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
I don't know how I feel about having a former Texans O-lineman on the team, even if he is just a back-up.

Re: Skins add OL Wade
How good can he be if Texas cut him? Seriously, they had one of the worst offensive lines in the league.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
Injury is the issue, IMO. If he's healthy, he's a good backup. As for the Texans, it's hard to say how good or bad these guys are. The TEAM sucked, so everyone looked weak.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
He sounds like a solid backup to me. He's got starting experience and what it comes down to is he's better than anything we already had, I know, that's not saying much.
I've got a buddy who's a Dolphins fan and he said phins fans hate the guy. He was a promising young OL who signed took the money and ran with Houston, but has never lived up to the hype. Maybe after being cut he'll be hungry to revive his career. |
Re: Skins add OL Wade
Seems like a good pickup. Those Texans OL come very, VERY respectable.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
hopefully, buges can make him into the player many thought he would be.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
Coach em up!
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
one of the reasons the texans cut him was because he was costing them too much money, not because he was the worst lineman on the team
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
I would also guess that he doesn't fit the zone blocking type of scheme they're running there now with Kubiak.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
From SI 2000 draft:
A tall, muscular right tackle with very long arms and big hands. Hard worker with a fiery demeanor. Plays a little high and isn't explosive in his initial thrust, but he's a solid run blocker who keeps his legs driving. Has a good feeling for angles and hustles downfield. Sets up well in pass protection. Does a good job of controlling defenders once he gets his hands on them. Has fairly good feet, but bends at the waist a lot trying to adjust. Has some problems reacting to a good inside move. Somewhat stiff. Needs technique improvement, but has solid tools. |
Re: Skins add OL Wade
Tall, no this guy is a tree 6'8" good grief.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
this will be a good signing when he gets into football shape. I think he got released a month or so ago. Correct me if i'm wrong. Lets hope we don't have to call on him Monday night.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
I checked out this guy's profile on NFL.com and he has a ton of starting experience something we dont have in our back-up's. If you can start an entire season in the NFL you can't be but so bad. Don't know how well he has recovered from the injury though.
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
i look at this 2 ways. first, our back up lineman were god awful in the preseason, so any warm body might help. but, cut by the texans. i dont care if it is related to the cap, if the guy could block at all, they would have worked something out
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
Maybe they were worried about his season ending injury last year. He was cut in July, so maybe he can help. I hope.... we need ol depth!!

Can you say Cory Raymer... |
Re: Skins add OL Wade
I am starting to notice a pattern of us picking up cast-aways from the texans and forty niners. Great, to me that is not a good sign! If we want to be winners then why surround ourselves losers?
|
Re: Skins add OL Wade
I'll take someone else's starters for our back-ups... no prob. If we stay healthy we'll be fine. It's still always possible to collapse (eagles)... can you imagine if C-Rodgers got hurt. Mabye I should post this in the Ultimate universe thread... I don't want to jinx anything.

Andre Carter is the only starter, but every Texan and 49er we've picked up has had injury problems. Hopefully these guys will get past the bug and help us to many victories. I really like what Rumph brings if he can stay healthy. I think he already has outseated ade in the nickel role and maybe even wright once springs returns. Rumph has a great upside and is a tackling corner just like GW likes. |

that report wa from 7 years ago. it's kinda meaningles now. go back and read derrick dockery's, it includes not caring about the combine, acting like it was a huge inconvenience, and posting an amazingly terrible 5.6 40. and he's a starter. todd wade is literally the BEST OL available at this point, and he's a tackle, which is a position we REALLY need a backup for (walter is a decent C/G, molinaro, on the other hand, is BAD). The texans dropped him cause he'd count something insane like 4-5mill against the cap for them this year. great signing, and a huge upgrade over the guy he replaced (3rd string OG). Posey and rumph were also good depth signings. I was a bit surprised at how well those two played. |

last year prioleau was the dime DB, ade was the quarter. this year wright is the nickel and rumph just got the dime ;) when you think about it, it all makes cents...... I'm sorry but my father was a really punny guy. |

It said he had a big wind up on his punch? Maybe we hes here just to punch out D-linemen. |
Re: Skins add OL Wade
Someone predicted we would sign another Texan OL, Seth Wand. Hmmm.
