We traded for T.J. Duckett?
Any one else hear about this. I can't find anything on it yet. So much for Stephen Davis coming back.

Yes, 3 team deal |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
My buddy just called and said that it was just confirmed, but I don't know where he heard it from

Falcons' tailback T.J. Duckett doesn't have to hear any more trade speculation. Tuesday night, he was dealt to the Washington Redskins as part of a three-team deal that brings speedy, but disgruntled Denver Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie to Atlanta, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. In exchange for Duckett, 25, the Redskins sent a third- or fourth-round pick to Denver, who, in turn, shipped Lelie, 26, to the Falcons. |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
How many third round picks do we have? It seems like every time we make a trade, it's a third round pick.
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
TJ will be a nice one-two punch with CP. He is a more "between the tackles" type of runner that Gibbs loves.

Yeah, he should be a nice short-yardage and goal line runner. |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
Sounds like a good trade. We finally have a Gerald Riggs type RB J.Gibbs loves again!
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
Here it is per ESPN

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
Hmm. I'm not sure I like this one. He won't be playing more than Portis when healthy, and I'm of the opinion that Betts is the better back. It's kinda screwing him.
I really hope we didnt trade a 3 for him. Unofficially, according to pure observation, Duckett is the slowest back in the NFL from the I to the LOS. |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
i dont like it or really see a need for it. the few times i saw atlanta last year duckett looked like he weighed about 300lbs. and slow. and i thought al saunders really liked lydell betts. so why bring in duckett?
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
This is one of the dumber moves I have ever seen. What the hell is wrong with Ladel Betts. And in cause our organization hasn't noticed yet, we have no depth on the OL or Secondary. Thats what we should be trading for. Flat out dumb. And i'm not surprised we pissed away another 3rd round pick.
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
In case you guys have missed it Betts has been pretty injury prone his entire career. That's not a good thing when our main guy Portis is also banged up. Does anyone really want Rock Cartwright getting 25 carries per game?
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
What if Portis is ready by 9/11. Does this mean Betts is going to get traded or in danger of getting cut?
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
Then we have one very good RB and two decent backups.
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
I like Duckett, he's a solid goal line RB in my humble opinion. But I don't think we really need him. Not because we have Betts, but because we have Sellers
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
betts is great trade bait now? We'll get the 3rd round pick back
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
If it turns out the Portis is alright, we could always trade him, or another back, for a lineman. It looks like Broughton could be on his way out with another fumble.
If Cartwright is such a cog on special teams, do we carry 4 backs in a game? |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
in 1982-1983 it was riggins,washington,otis wonsley,in 1987 it was rogers,smith,and jamie morris,and in 1991 it was byner,riggs,and ricky earvins.
why cant it be portis, betts, and ducket in 2006?great trade, goodbye cartwright! |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
Riggo you are right, Gibbs does love the big back. I think when Gibbs won the fight with Bobby Beathard to bring Riggs to DC, it was the last straw and Beathard left the team after that year. But we did win the SB the next year. This will be a good year, as TJ can run the rock.

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
duckett is not worth a third round pick, he's not even that good...hopefully i'll be proved wrong
i guess this means we're not resigning betts |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
SUPERBOWL OR BUST!!! ALL YOU LAME DOUBTERS WILL NOW REALIZE WE ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH MEDIOCRE... SNYDER/ GIBBS WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES TO BRING THE LOMBARDI TO WASHINGTON, AND NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
As for those who think Duckett is not worth a third ATL has had the best running game overall the past to 2 seasons and with AL Saunders as our Head Coach Offense noone will be able to stop this offense when the season comes around!!!! |

Broncos | Team receives 2007 third-round pick in Lelie three-way trade
Tue, 22 Aug 2006 19:24:43 -0700 Paul Newberry, of the Associated Press, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/15/nfl">Denver Broncos received the Washington Redskins' third-round pick in the 2007 draft as part of the three-way deal that shipped WR Ashley Lelie to the Atlanta Falcons and RB T.J. Duckett to the Redskins, according to two officials within the league who spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been officially announced. i think he's a good back....you cant say he's not because he's a back up and in Atlanta he was the goal line guy....people kill me with the he aint that good comment...lol POWER back good 1-2 punch. |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
and the thread i see in here is bring back Davis...Duckett has got him beat even if his knee was in good shape...ive seen his burst in between the tackles he's not as slow you people think and just to prove that check this out....
The Falcons Michael Vick and DeAngelo Hall are both rumored to run the 40 in the 4.2 second range, and 255-pound running back T.J. Duckett was clocked at a 4.38 during his senior workouts at Michigan State. |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
This will be a good 1-2 punch. Gibbs aint stupid folks.
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
this is a great value trade. duckett is pure power, first round pick not long ago, and has been very good for not being the featured back. plus we only give up a 3rd rounder. betts is good but he isnt durable, and as much as many of us love rock, lets face it, he cant be counted on for large parts of a season

i thought that duckett wanted out because he wanted to be a number 1?
how much happier will he be in washington when he is a backup to portis? |

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
I dont understand this part , but i do trust Gibbs and Co decisions.
The report said that Denver will receive Washington's first- and third-round picks if the Redskins finish with a worse record than the Broncos this season. If Washington finishes with a better record, Denver would receive third- and fourth-round picks. Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
How many years does Ducket have left on his contract?
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
I really like this move... a 3rd is semi-high, but Duckett's still kind of young... we need to keep Portis fresh and Betts hasn't proven to be all world healthy. This helps us now- ain't that what we're playing for this season?

How about this Duckett moves to fullback......why not have a fast fullback. He can get out and around for the big blocks Clinton and Ladell need to break the big one. We already have one of the best o-lines (when healthy) Now we have the triple threat..... do you put eight in the box? We burn you deep. Do you play the pass? We burn you with the run outside. do you run blitz? we send Duckett up the gut. Unstoppable offense. come on say it with me...UNSTOPPABLE OFFENSE. It just sucks for guys like Rock how's been around for awhile ,to just fall by the wayside. We are gonna be nasty. Great defense + unstopple offense = Dynasty |

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
How does denver do this...got a first rounder in the champ - portis trade and now could get 2 of our picks for this trade...give me a break. should be 1 for 1 for 1 point blank period.
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
we better finish with a better record than the broncos...i cant go another draft without a first round pick
what happens if we have the same record? lol |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
The only thing I don't like about the trade is that Duckett is in his last year of his contract and we gave up a third round pick. It is a risky move?

YouTube - T.J. Duckett Highlights
I hate giving up draft picks but The Duck sure brings something to the table!!! Down by the gold line or short yardage he can give us a lot. Also free up the outside and the pass to a TE or WR as D's key to stop the short run. If he is as good as those highlight it just might be a good pick up. Will he be a freeagent next year like Betts ? |
