Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
From ESPN Insider:
Anthony Montgomery DT | (6'5", 301, 6.3) | MINNESOTA Strengths: Possesses good size and flashes the ability to hold ground when teams run at him. Uses hands fairly well and flashes the ability to shed blocks quickly. Is tall, has long arms and can get hands up in passing windows. Lost a considerable amount of weight during 2005 off-season and had strong senior season. Weaknesses: Montgomery's potential is limited by his lack of explosiveness. Doesn't have very a quick first step and isn't going to make a lot of plays in the backfield. Lacks ideal upper body strength, doesn't deliver a violent punch and has problems maintaining separation from blockers. Doesn't have great range and isn't going to make many plays in pursuit. Lacks closing speed and doesn't show a variety of pass rush moves. Overall: Montgomery has the size and athletic ability to develop into an adequate backup but he offers little as a pass rusher and needs to get stronger as a run defender. |

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
No offense to Gibbs and Co...but I typically dont trust their picks past the 3rd round. This guy looks like a Big NT. Hopefully Williams saw somethign he liked and could groom.
Clearly I wanted us to get Maxey, and groom his physical tools into our nickel corner. But I agree DT was a bigger need. Im just really pissed they didnt trade up and get Orien Harris, a guy that was there late and should have gone early. As opposed to a guy that isnt even rated on many sites... |

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
I think he'll be an average back up and maybe hold blockers to fee up linebackers to do what they do.

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
How does this sound?
"Extremely talented, Anthony Montgomery is a terrific run stopper with excellent upside as a pass rusher. He has first round level talent, but because of his inconsistency getting to the quarterback, he is something closer to a second or third round quality player. With the right coaching, Montgomery could be a very good, even dominant player in the NFL. However, he needs someone who can correct his pass rushing mechanics before he ever reaches that level. He is certaintly capable of improving a team's run defense, and would be an excellent selection for a team like the Cincinnati Bengals, who have struggled in that department. " |

But I feel better after reading that review. |
are you joking or being serious?
Serious! Blache has worked magic in CHI and with a few bums that we've had (and still do) on our roster.

Feel better after reading that post that Davy put out there. Seems like this year and last year have been all Defense.

Eh...I think our D-line has sucked and C.Grffin has been the only one worth keeping. He brough us Daniels and I dont think hes panned out. One great game isnt worth being a 16 game starter. Im glad we went and got an end in free agency. Im sure this rookie will get playing time |

I guess I should reword that, we havent been good at rushign the qb, he has made a bunch of no name guys perform exceptionally well as run stopper, up the middle atleast. If you ran outside on us last year you were going to get 200 yds... |
Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
This site that davy is reffering to is interesting it also state teams interested in players
|
Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
In these late rounds, it's all scouting and what the coaches think they can work with. It's very hard to get mad about these picks, given how difficult it is to for anyone to project well at this point.
I hope that Davy's post truly indicates the sort of guy he is, potential-wise, and I think Blache can coach him up if anyone can. I think Blache has made a silk purse out of a sow's ear, given what he had coming in, and how strong we've been over the last 2 years. His line consistently stuffs the run and keeps OLineman off the LBs. Maybe with Carter, he'll have a passrusher. |
Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
glad to see they drafted a dlineman i was hoping for the de from alabama but at least it nice to draft young linemen, i also like maxey

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
I don't look at these guys we draft in the second day as possible starters, mainly because we have had absoluely no success drafting on the second day since gibbs got back.

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
It's all downhill from here.

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
Nice post from Davy. We are looking for quality depth, and this guy seems to fit the bill. Hope we draft some help on the O-line in the late rounds.

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
Silly coaching staff, thier were probably study tape of the guy. Everybody knows online draft reports are the only way to go.

Re: Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery
This guy and Golston are the kind of picks needed for lasting stability at the DT position. We went into the draft looking to have no holes on defense, and now I believe there are none. OL and TE still need help, but there are still guys on the FA market and UFA guys who can help.
