Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
With the Gmen after an OLB and no chance of Lavar coming back to us, I'd say the odds were both teams looking for OLB help in the draft. Now he's with the Gmen, does that mean more chance of us picking up a quality OLB in the draft?
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
Depends. There's no guarantee the Giants were going after an OLB, and no guarantee that we'll draft one either. Remember the "best player available" philosophy.
Our only hope that the Lavar situation works to our advantage is the hope that his steady decline continues with the Giants. |

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
I don't think it could help us. In a best case situation, it would be a wash.
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
With the draft, who knows. The G-men might have been after a OLB but now they could draft a kicker that doesn't blow. We may draft an OLB but I agree with Beemnseven that at #53 we'll probably take a "best available".

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
he will help us enough on the field.if greg williams and the boys are right about lavar not playing within the system, and being out of position all the time,mr saunders and the boys on offense are really going to exploit #56
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
ahhhh No it actually has made the Gmen better an at #53 your taking the best player I agree on that
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
I won't say it's made the Giants better either. As of now, he's just the same LaVar that left us last year after not making any really huge plays.
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
I think Lavar makes them a little better in long yardage situations due to fact that they have good defensive ends. Are we gonna leave portis one on one with Lavar? hopefully not but we still have alot of speed so if brunell can pick up the blitz we shouldn't have to worry about it but you never know. Lavar could be out with a knee injury by the end of preseason. Who knows. The Giants still have a brutal schedule ahead of them so they will be beaten up some when we do play them.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
Antonio Pierce will make Lavar a better player. Antonio will get Lavar in position.t

Thats true. They will be tough. they don't have much depth though so hopefully we can wear them down |
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
Heres my take. Now everybody listen to me b/c I know all.
This will work in our favor b/c high-profile players rarely win 'revenge games' if their old team is a playoff contender (so TO stomping the 49ers is out) Think Drew Bledsoe, Deion (vs. The Cowboys), Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner (1-2 vs his former teams), and any others you can think of would be appreciated. Plus I know LaVar and most of the fans have left on good terms but after watching an interview with him on NFL network in Giant blue I have to say he looks like the face of pure evil. |
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
seeing lavar in a giants uniform pains me. i heard him on the john thompson show today talking about the the difference between the skins and giants organization and how the giants are all about football. and the how the giants D has better players on it with strahan and umerimera and the skins D doesnt have a real dominant name on it. lets see maybe thats why he didnt fit in our defensive players have to play in a system lavar not free lance. hate to see him on the giants but i sure g. williams will tell saunders the way to expose him.
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
I see it as a good move by the Giants. They didn't throw the whole bank at him to sign him. If he doesn't work out, they can let him go without destroying their salary cap. With Strahan and Umenyiora on the ends, with Arrington rushing the passer as well on 3rd downs, the Giants could have a tremendous pass rush. He might be overrated, but it's not like the guy is a total bum.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
How does the Giants getting him help us in any way?
He will be extremely motivated against us. Lavar is a great player when he is motivated and he will be headhunting big time. All it takes is an open lane on Brunell and the Campbell era could begin. The last two years, the Giants have put Brunell out of the game. That being said, I still think that the Redskins are better than the Giants because of Al Saunders. |

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
I don't think this can possibly help us.
I have never been a diehard Lavar fan. I think the years he went to the ProBowl that there were more deserving players and he was getting by on name. But, there is something deep in the pit of my stomach that says that this is not good. He may very well take someones head off when he plays us. Most people looking for revenge against former teams don't have the sheer physical attributes that Lavar has. |

Hasn't even put on the Giants uniform and already he's talking smack and giving us bulletin board material. |

For all his talents that's what Arrington had become, a distraction. Plus, like someone else said he'll probably be so jacked up to do damage and be the star of the night that he'll blow his assignments. Just like he did with us. |

The Cowboys beat them, but it was a nailbiter. |
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
Well remember this. No team in the East is better prepared to handle injuries then the Skins'. As a matter of fact I'm convinced that Saunders might be the best Portis insurance money could buy b/c with Saunders Portis will blosom. On top of that Bettis, Cartrwright, and Nemo will look better than they really are.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
What happens to the Giants if Eli goes down? Well Hello Mr.Other Hassleback. Plus does Jeff Garcia really scare anyone with Reggie Brown as his #1 guy? And if one Drew goes down in Dallas and even better one takes over. However physical talent only takes you so far. Portis is the one guy that will really really hurt the Redskins if they lose him, even then I think we can count on Saunders to come through in the clutch.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
If we draft a Lb at 53 , I would be willing to wager $ that he makes more tackles than LA makes for the Gmen this year .
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
In a way, Lavar's leaving, especially the way he left has already helped in a big way. His give-back of $4 million bonus money provided more cap relief that the Skins used for major upgrades on offense. Think of the whole string of transactions as a swap of a back-up linebacker for two starting receivers. I'll take that exchange any day.
I'm still an Arrington fan and wish him well, except when he faces us. However good he is with the Giants, we filled a huge need at wide receiver (I think & hope & pray). Interesting that we are describing Lavar in about the same way 49er fans are describing Lloyd. |

Yup, he's the same LaVar that left us and everybody realized it. For example notice nobody was offering anything close to what he was asking for. Hail! |
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
I would have to think that Gibb's, Saunder's with input from Williams might know exactly how to exploite LaVar's weaknesses and aviod his strength's....if he's even healthy by the time we play them.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
LA will still have the knee issues. He will sit 8 games this season due to injury.

Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
dirtbag,i love the skins but saying in saunders offense our running backs will look better than they really are?anyway, lavar will always be the player he was here, make a big play or two, miss about 3-4 tackles a game, and get caught out of position a whole bunch.its time for us skins fans to cut the cord and "FORGET ABOUT LAVAR"
|
Re: Could Lavar going to the Gmen actually help us a little?
I just didnt think he needed to make all those snide comments about the Skins and how they are about flash and politics instead of football. Yeah, Im sure Gibbs isnt about football at all. Its all internal politics and marketing wtih that guy.
And that flashy Gregg Williams? Maybe he should spend a little less time in the clubs and a little more time in the film room. Yeah, good point Lavar. Jackass. |
