Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
If what was said is true, I don't think the team can comment that he's in rehab, so if he hasn't returned by now, I have a feeling he's already out.

I like the idea of a competent "football guy" GM as much as the next Skins fan, but what exactly has Scot done? And what IF he's a mess personally and can't keep his act together? All Skins fault? I don't get the sense this is the total dumpster fire the media is making it out to be. They have an axe to grind, because they're being kept out of the loop.
What has he done? He has changed the direction of the team and wants to build through the draft. Wants to be strong in the trenches. His way is proven with sustained success. He comes from a background in Green Bay under Ron Wolf that WORKS. If I were Bruce Allen I would be doing everything I could to make this work. Obviously egos and personal issues get in the way. If this parting of the ways is drinking related then just come out and say it and quit lying to everyone. Say SM is having personal challenges. If it's ego related then shame on the Redskins front office. You brought the guy here, let him do this thing and get the F out of the way. Remember, your way and model is a complete and utter failure. |

I'm pretty sure the team cannot say that he is having drinking related issues; and they have come out and said that he's dealing with personal matters but no one seems to be happy with that answer. So what else are they supposed to say? |

He is not in rehab. He is at home. He is watching game film and what not. He expects to be fired shortly after the draft.
Mike Jones: McCloughan at Home, ‘Probably Gone’ After Draft « CBS DC Get ready guys. We are soon to be the laughing stock once again of the NFL, not that we may not be already. This thing with Scot is just sad. I don't even think he relapsed now. I think for whatever reason Gruden wanted him out and with Gruden's stock rising in the eye of Snyder and Allen, Scott M was viewed as the expendable piece... |

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
After missing the Combine, Redskins GM Scot McCloughan has not returned to team headquarters and is not involved in free agent negotiations.
Publicly, team brass has insisted McCloughan would return to Redskins Park whenever he is finished dealing with "personal matters." Privately, it appears McCloughan is being forced out or already has been. The NFL Combine is a critical venue for both draft and free agency information gathering, and teams make some of their biggest decisions of the year during this week's legal tampering window and Thursday's official start of free agency. McC not negotiation with FA...doesn't make sense.
I don't think that was ever the case, he never got involved with negotiations going back to when he was hired. He's the football guy, Schaeffer/Allen/Williams? are the cap guys. Still, does anybody believe he's not getting fired? Man didn't work the combine and it looks like he's going to keep his distance in free agency. In what world is that a functioning relationship? I'm 98% sure based on that and SS's reports that he's done with us. Nobody fires the GM in the free agency though, that would just make us look bad. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Sounds like McC never had total control to begin with. So maybe we gave him too much credit all along and maybe not enough with Allen. Just a thought.

This is probably the case, also it appears Jay has more pull than we all thought. Maybe Jay is a good HC/GM type coach as well. |

Nothing says "I got this free agency game" like that picture. Jesus h Christ what in the f8ck is wrong with this franchise? At this point, sign cousins for whatever he wants, bc I can't take losing both this offseason. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
I love your optimism, and normally I'm one of the more optimistic cats in burgundy and gold, but the truth is, this has disaster written all over it. I don't think it's coincidence that Scot McCloughan comes in and suddenly the team is winning 8 or 9 games and making the playoffs. McCloughan has been around three successful transitions of teams from poor to fantastic. He knows how to bring in the right guys and he knows the correct way to build through the draft. You also can't judge a draft after one season. It takes a few seasons to really get a good idea how good or bad that draft really was. And least we also remember that in the past, Scot McCloughan's players tend to last longer in the NFL than players drafted by any other GM, so that tells you something of the magnitude of talent McCloughan can bring to the scouting department. When he gets the axe, you're going to see it then.
We do not want Bruce Allen governing over player acquisitions.
Exactly |

Either that or he had Total control & the results weren't well received. The article when he signed said Scott had Total control of the roster. I think this is more for being held accountable for a lack of action on defense. Somebody recommended all those duds last year & somebody felt we could field a decent dline with the career underachievers brought in. Somebody felt we could have re-tread safeties fill in & we'd be OK. Somebody went to bat to get those guys. Somebody wasted a great opportunity with two 1,000 yard receivers to make the playoffs. |

He probably won't be able to legally say anything until well after he has been fired from here. Similar to Shanahan. He didn't really unload on us and talk about the RG3 / Snyder mess until well after he was fired, IIRC. But i'm not sure if anyone else has pointed it out, but holy christ look at Scott's face. I hope its bad lighting or a bad picture but his face looks purple in that photo. He doesn't look like a man who is well.... |

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Redskins have begun mulling new GM candidates, and the name of ESPN analyst Mark Dominik "has surfaced."
La Canfora confirms multiple previous reports that dysfunction has returned to the Redskins' front office -- a recurring theme during Dan Snyder's reign of terror -- and in-limbo GM Scot McCloughan is expected to be ousted after April's draft. In addition to Dominik, La Canfora mentions in-house scout Alex Santos as a candidate for the GM role. Long term, there is no hope for the Redskins' organization to build a non-laughingstock as long as Snyder owns the team. Why am I actually believing a La Cuntfora report? : Mark Dominik is a former professional football executive and scout for the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League from 1994 to 2013 |

And I was so looking for this off-season ,now we are the laughing stock of the league once again and to top that off what free agent would want to come here now if you listen to all the interviews they all want stability which we don't have ,and maybe no quarterback and for sure wide receivers can it get any worse than this 😩😩😩😩😩

The FA interviews you referred to are bullshit. They want money! Sure, money isn't everything but it's way ahead of whatever is in second place. Show them the money and they will come to Redskins Park. |

I'm finding it pretty amazing that even with McC not being as big of an influence as we thought, we've managed back to back winning seasons.

Define not as big of an influence as we thought. He was hired to be a talent evaluator. Sure he had the title of GM, but we knew he was being brought in specifically to evaluate talent. We also knew Gruden would be involved, (but Scot would have final say) as might Allen to an extent, although his role was more business/managing the front office related. So are we saying Scot's role in evaluating talent was minimal from the start? We just hired a strictly talent evaluator kinda guy to have a minimal role in talent evaluation? He wasn't in the negotiating room, not with Schaeffer/Allen handling that. Schaeffer probably does all the salary cap related legwork anyways, Allen was probably the final decision maker on that side. Don't take it personally Matty, but it sounds like you're trying to give Gruden/Williams/Allen most of the credit for player scouting. |

I guess I'm also with Matty in terms of maybe it is not all doom and gloom as everyone makes it out to be. Everyone seems to want to give McC all of the credit for the improvement of the team, yet none of the blame for some of the miscues in personnel/draft. Everyone is quickly to call us a laughing stock, even though we just had back-to-back winning seasons, and have the potential of continuing to be a winning team. Perhaps the Redskins could have handled this situation better, but if all of this has to do with McC's performance being affected by his past troubles, I can see why a lot of what has gone down, has happened. Maybe there is some type of power struggle or at least a disagreement between Jay and Scot, and the team is going with Jay. I hope I'm not jinxing it, but when the team goes 1-15 or has the issue that teams like Cleveland, Jacksonville, or Buffalo have had in the past season, then you can call the team a laughing stock. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
If he is a glorified Scount, not sure why they need to fire him. It's just so strange.

Agree. I am not at all ready to flush the upcoming season. I am more and more OK with Gruden having a bigger role and growing our own front office as we grow our own players. |

I'm guessing his influence has diminished over time. I'm not trying to credit or discredit anyone, just saying we've gotten some good results lately and maybe it's not all due to McC. |

Why pay a glorified scout GM money? Especially when you can just use his scouting services for a fraction of the cost. Ultimately it comes down to this, if he has indeed let his drinking impact his work, he only has himself to blame. |
