Re: Around the NFL- Week 3
I think the saddest part about this replacement ref debacle is that you don't have a Denny Green, Herm Edwards, or Jim Mora Sr. coaching in the league. I am sure one of those guys would go f'ing ape sh*t in a presser if they had to deal with some of these shenanigans.

Due to several on-field incompetent officiating we chose to part ways with with a couple crews which apparently are now officiating in the NFL. We have a lot of respect for our officials but we felt the officiating was not in line with our expectations. We have not made public comment to date because we felt it was not our place to do so. However in light of tonight's event, we felt it was only fair that NFL fans knew the truth as to who are officiating these games.
|
I thought that was because it was owners against players with Roger and the owners against Demaurice smith and the players union (Foxworth, Saturday, etc)
I think refs are a different case, because they're a whole other union and aren't owned by the players or the owners, their owned by the league office which is roger. I read a peter king column a few weeks back talking about this and peter said something along the lines of "...if the NFL won't budge on signing these referees then an upset owner like Jerry Jones may just go ahead and say 'here roger let me just cut them a check and get this over with', because he doesn't want his team losing over these officials..."
You invalidated your argument with "...peter king..." He can't approve of any type of contract with any union without the owners signing off on it. He already knows what the owners will approve or not approve. He isn't going to bring some weak agreement in to the owners for them to vote on it. He's simply doing their bidding. Just face the facts, these owners care more about money then they ever do about the game. It's a cold hard fact my man. Get used to it. Goodell is not the one leading the NFL into this situation, it is 2 parties, the owners and the NFLRA, both more focused on their business model/future, than the actual product on the field this year. Is that necessarily a bad thing, no, does it make the product on the field much much worse, yes. |

I agree they share the blame, but the real refs aren't jumping through fire to give up their position and get back on the field either. I just think this is a case where both sides are equally wrong. |

Re: Around the NFL- Week 3
Goodell is sitting back allowing it to happen. Believe what you will, he should be the driving force between the parties in striking a deal. He is ultimately responsible for the leadership of the sport and the product on the field. Should have pushed to have this done before the season started, had all summer.

He's their spokesman for better or worse. It's his job to do that. He's getting paid 10 million a year to do exactly that. A Ref may miss a call or two but if somebody misses a major call? then that's enough to get a whole lot started. I told y'all that you don't have to give the fans a reason to think about going crazy or anything like that. If you want to bring back the real Refs, bring them back...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The fans deserve a well officiated game. It's simple as that. It goes further than that. If a Ref blows a call, they blow a call. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about one call. We're sitting here, and supposed to be the National Football League, and we're talking about blown calls. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about blown calls, that cost teams a game, not a practice, not a practice, but we're talking about a game. The game we players go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about some replacement Refs man. How silly is that? Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about the integrity of the game. We're talking not talking about practice man....We're talking the games! We're talking about some lousy replacement Refs. We're about some no good lousy replacement Refs. Costing players, teams and fan the game. We're talking about the game man. When you come to the stadium, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about some Refs right now. |

He is the commissioner. 110% of his time should have been at the bargaining table with the refs since the disaster that was week two. Instead, he gives half assed BS statements that they are doing a good job, and then has the AUDACITY to THREATEN the players with fines if they don't show respect to these bumbling idiots, and these are the players that he says their safety is the number one concern of the league. Another bull shit statement. Goodell could make this thing happen, Im sure he has plenty of influence over the situation. To think that he doesn't is kinda naive. |

Yeah, I dont think the comparison close. Refs will always miss calls, but their knowledge of the rules of the game is much stronger than what we have seen. Simple things such as time keeping with the clock, spotting the ball, knowing how many challenges or timeouts, etc. have been sorely missed. |
The call was terrible, but what's the excuse going to be when regular referees return and they make the same bad calls fans have been complaining about for years?
come on, its never been this bad. Every week, there are at least 5 or 6 games in question with calls that had a major impact on either the flow or the outcome of the game. OF course people are always going to complain about calls, but you have to admit that this is just a little out of hand now. |
Re: Around the NFL- Week 3
The call was terrible, but what's the excuse going to be when regular referees return and they make the same bad calls fans have been complaining about for years?
It's true that the regular refs aren't perfect. And, I had mostly been of the feeling that you need to give these guys time. But time seems to be making matters worse. One guy who was at the Ravens game near the sideline told me that a well known Ravens LB was telling his CB's to just get the hands on the receivers because the refs weren't calling things. Whatever, you can't convince me that every game would be having this many issues like they are now. Maybe one dramatic call every few weeks, at most. Not game changing f ups in multiple games every single week. |
The call was terrible, but what's the excuse going to be when regular referees return and they make the same bad calls fans have been complaining about for years?
To me there is a distinction between bad calls and wrong calls. People weren't wholly concerned about the integrity of the game under the regular refs. But now? There are plenty of people worried about it. Until our Rams game I was part of the "these guys aren't too bad and they'll get better" crowd. These past two weeks have proven to me though just how difficult the job is and just how unqualified these scabs are. It is CLEARLY affecting the game and it is even more CLEARLY affecting the fans' perception of the game. THAT is a major problem that the league needs to recognize and get fixed immediately. |
