According to John Riggins. Beck is the starter this upcoming week against the Giants. Well, that was until he played poorly...lol
John Riggins This just in John Beck will be named starter for Giant game. Coach If I Tell You, I'd Have To Kill You has inadvertently given it away. A tie goes to the Kid, unless the Bucs B team forces him to play poorly.
|
I missed what TWilliams said tonight? What did he say?
It was in the game thread, basically he was asked about how he felt playing a full half in every preseason game, and his response was "well we have to protect our starting qb", then he stuttered and added "whoever it is". Was just a misspoken word, but hey conspiracies have been built on less! |

The great thing about this message board is I get to look awesome and u get to look like you don't know nearly as much about Redskins football as I do. |

Feel free to chime in when the decision gets made. I'm just messing around anyways. But I'm right about this. |

beck will start. its his job to lose.

It still doesn't feel right to me to go with a guy at QB that has "potential upside" at 30 years old and looks so-so during preseason. Not to say that Rex looked amazing, but I wish Beck had looked the way that Rex looked against the Steelers and Ravens. If Beck was a rookie or younger, I'd be fine...but I dunno. I hope I'm wrong and I will root for the guy, but I'm just iffy about him starting. |

Beck can use a little more seasoning. Besidies, if history wants to repeat itself, Grossman should win the job, then suffers an injury due to some cheap player, and then Beck lights it up for the rest of the season. lol |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I think MS is going to wait until the last possible minute to name a starting QB.
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I'm not sure Beck played as badly as JT would have us believe. I don't think he played well but more just average. KS clearly called a different type of game with a lot more straight drop backs and so forth. Our line strength is not going to be doing that and it showed. JB had a little more in the face pressure and for the most part he handled it OK. Not in love with his game tonight but it wasn't a full on debacle...and it wasn't as poor as JT made it out to be. Given the lack of weapons I'm not sure Rex does any better.
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
For what it's worth Beck said that the reason he played today is cause the coaches wanted to give him a few more snaps since he missed the first game.

Well, he did show that he can display a critical skill of a QB on that one play a defender got free: delivering an ACCURATE strike while being hit. He just needs to do it more often. But, the game stills seems a tad fast for him, as his dropback is not fluid just yet. |

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Damn I feel this is Nov 2012 and we have a choice between two shmucks for Pres. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Either choice is sort of lame anymore. Chase Daniel has had more of an impressive preseason than both of these guys statwise. I am almost wishing we still had JC, as our predicament is almost that bad. I see Rex getting hurt, and Beck losing games for us. I mean how can guys like Daniel and Bartel have solid preseasons and they are backups and this guy(Beck) has a mediocre one and I am supposed to think he is going to magically turn it on come 9-11-11 and be a solid starter for us? I really think we need to be concerned about our QB situation for 2011. I also believe we need to draft not one, but two QBs next year.

Guy didn't really instill confidence in them either I bet. Whoever wins the starting job does it by default, and that isn't a good sign. |

Grossman has been excellent this preseason and Beck's play has displayed established that baseline of mere competence and with the potential for plenty more. Both of them can execute Kyle's offense at a reasonable level that the passing game will have to be respected. Campbell is a wuss who NEVER did well when he's about to get hit or was being hit. His vision went to crap and he just looked for Cooley. Not only that, but he was never particularly confident about "gunning it in", something BOTH Beck and Grossman have no qualms about. |

Only our damn fan base is concerned about next years draft before the regular season even begins. Really dude? Can't you wait until Oct. 1 at least until we have a pulse of the team? So annoying. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
not to mention that both QB's had a fairly good pre-season (besides this game for Beck)
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I wonder if the reason Beck has never established himself as a starter is that he's just not consistent from game to game, good game then bad game. He didnt look good at all last night.

He didn't look good "at all" last night? Really? Sure, he had some throws that he'd like to have back, maybe more so than in any game we've seen so far in exhibition. But he still made some completions under pressure, with zip and accuracy in the intermediate yardage range that we never saw with either Donovan McNabb last year, nor with Jason Campbell the previous five years. I don't know how with one bad night we can hang the Inconsistent Tag around his neck, as though it's going to be an ongoing problem with him. We just don't know that yet. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
The moment that Rex was slated to sit out this game, and the fact Shanny sits his starters last preseason game was enough to put the pieces together.
Wouldn't think the coach would expose his starting QB to two quarters of meaningless football with the regular season only a week away. I just get a kick out of how opinions continue to change about Beck/Grossman from week to week. You're only as good as your last play is hard at work here. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
How often does a QB get an unnecessary roughness penalty? Clemens should start simply because he is a bad man. :)
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Anyone who watched last night has to admitt Beck hurt his profile rather than helped. He shoulda been picked on 2-3 more throws than he did. That throw to the endzone was flat out bad that was intercepted. I still think he should start the year as the QB, but if he struggles throw Sexy in. Beck looked really uncomfortable last nite in the pocket and our interior line struggled with pass rush. Dunno, but last night the offense overall was the most disappointing anytime during the preaseason and this was against the 2s for Tampa.

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I would much rather start with Beck, and if necessary go to Grossman, then start with Grossman and then end with Beck if necessary.
|

Meh, maybe, maybe not. I think they just wanted to get Beck some extra work. That's about as far as I would look into that. If that was truly the case why was the starting OL out there? |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I would much rather start with Beck, and if necessary go to Grossman, then start with Grossman and then end with Beck if necessary.
Yup. I'm still enamored with Beck's mobility. Plus, if Beck makes a mistake, it is a new thing, whereas if Grossman makes a mistake then you knew it was coming. I'd rather be surprised by bad times. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
If Shanahan remains true to the "best player" plays philosophy Grossman will be named the starter.
If the team is witness to a sham QB battle in which the better player gets benched how exactly does that benefit this "new culture" they are promoting over at Redskins Park? |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Yeah he said that last week. He wants the Giants to have to plan for both guys.
I doubt the Giants will do anything different no matter who starts at QB. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I have it from an inside source that both Rex and Beck will start against the Giants. The Wildcat just got a whole lot sexier!
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
^^ Beck had a bad night and that is worrisome. I don't think either guy, however, clearly outplayed the other. Grossman looked less than stellar himself a few times this preseason. I have no doubt that, if Grossman had clearly beaten Beck, Grossman is the starter. Unlike you, I just don't see Grossman as the clearly "better player" right now.
Sorry, I don't see a "sham QB battle" here. Sure, Shanny likes Beck and it really seems to be his job to lose - but Grossman didn't really do enough to show any clear advantage over Beck. He too was inconsistent, made bad decisions, etc. They are pretty much neck and neck and in this case, tie goes to Beck. If I'm on the team and Beck is named starter, I'm good with that; if it's Grossman, I'm good with that also. Bottom line, we've seen Grossman over the course of a season - he's simply not a world beater. He's good to have around and to be able step in if Beck can't translate the things he [Beck] has done well in preseason into game day during regular season. As for the new culture, every report I have read says the players feel like Shanahan gives every player a fair shot. I don't remember the report, but I do remember it saying that even players who lost competitions felt Shanny gave them a fair shot to take a spot. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Yeah he said that last week. He wants the Giants to have to plan for both guys.
Great plan. We have that card to play so we should. I heard some guy on ESPN Radio last night say that since Beck was starting the 4th game, it's a clear indication that Grossman has won the job. I tend to think letting him play is more proof that Beck is the man. He hasn't started a regular season game in 4 years and didn't get much of a training camp this year, so he's getting his snaps to get more comfortable. That's my take. I like the confusion Shanahan is causing, even if it's only in the media...but the Giants DO have to prepare for both. Speaking of the Giants...they got torched in the part of the game that "mattered" last night when some starters were in. Brady had 4 drives...17 points. Giants won 18-17 once the scrubs came in. Devin Thomas had 4 catches for 42 yards. Still a preseason stud...ha. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Lmao!! Yeah and preparing for both of these studs should cause mass confusion on the G-men defense. Looks like apples to apples to me. That tricky Shanahan!!! There he goes again!!

exactly. i doubt they are scrambling coming up with a "gameplan" based on our two quarterbacks. |
