Yes I do believe when healthy Washington has the better line

I agree. This is one of those few times where I think you can scheme with Vick/McCoy and it makes the whole line look a lot better.

Sure, I fully understand that it's a fine line of does the line make the RB/QB better and vice versa, but you put a less mobile QB behind that line and it looks pretty bad.

The Redskins haven't been rebuilding for 20 years. They've played musical chairs with head coaches while many top draft picks have busted. They've drafted a lot of bad players that the team didn't need. The Redskins, with only five winning seasons in 20 years(1996-1997-1999-2005-2007) have struggled as a franchise due to poor ownership, mismanagement of general managers, and signing high priced free agents as well. This is why this franchise hasn't done much in the past twenty years after Gibbs retired the first time.

How's this for an answer: we're probably done rebuilding the offense, but the defense, which technically we've been rebuilding since the new regime arrived, is still in rebuild mold and probably will be for years to come.

I am sure we would have been done rebuilding on defense if the health of our safeties would not have been an issue.

Safety, or the full secondary? Who are the starting corners? Do we ever expect to have a defense boasting consistent pressure w/o finding a standout nose tackle? And who's gonna replace London after 2013? (Riley can't play both ILB spots at the same time ;) )

And it's not that we should be done rebuilding the offense either, but over the next three drafts we only have three picks in Rds 1 and 2. Limited...is the word, word?

I mentioned safeties, b/c I think if both had returned healthy, we probably could have gone after a #1 CB. Although then again with this cap issue, we could have stay put with the same defense from last year. I doubt we are going to replace Cofield, although I think he'd fit best as a DE. Without our safeties issue, finding a possible replacement for Fletch would have been our only "rebuilding" move.

The defense improved greatly last year. Had it not been for the blow coverages by the secondary throughout the 2011 season, that 13th ranking would have easily been a top ten ranking. The defensive front and linebackers played well last year. But the safeties had injuries and the corner backs gave up a lot of big plays in the passing game. Hopefully with new additions at the safety positions and with Raheem Morris coaching the defensive backs, it will help the Redskins move into the top ten in defense this year.

Our 2012 official draft picks:
ROUND PICK IN RD OVERALL NOTES
1 2 2
3 6 69
4 7 102
4 14 109 *from OAK, Jason Campbell trade
5 6 141
6 3 173 *from MIN, Donovan McNabb trade
7 6 213

So we will have 4 players (absent of any trades) in the first 4 rounds of the draft, including the #2 overall pick.. Why are people still whining about the lack of a 2nd round pick?

If it hasn't been said already (I didn't read every post), Allen has shown the ability to make deals. Even if you didn't like giving up 2 1st rounders & a 2nd, he got the deal done the team wanted. Last year he got a no. of trades on draft day that got us more picks. As noted above, he's been able to move discarded players for picks, including Fat Al to the Pats of all teams!

So I'm not concerned w/what we gave up for RGIII, only concerned that he turns into a franchise qb. I have faith that Allen will maneuver in the draft in the coming years to get more picks & continue "rebuilding" the skins.

If your responding to my post you didn't actually read what it said. In the first two rounds for 2012, 2013, and 2014 we only have three picks total (instead of six) being one 1st rd pick this year and then 2nd rounders in '13 and '14. Savvy?

I actually wasn't responding to your post (sorry, didn't read it) but it was a general response to some discussion earlier in the thread. I get the math aspect of trading the picks but there was some whining earlier in the thread about us not having a 2nd this year.

Ahhh I'm whicha. Well...if Griffin is the franchise QB we all hope he is those (lost) picks won't be a topic of discussion. Winning cures all!
