Re: Redemption Week!!
I think some are giving way too much credit to Philly. Sure they have talent at the skill positions but they simply are not playing good fundamental football and they have glaring weaknesses on the OL and in their LB corps.

My problem though is still with the bad Oline play, questionable playcalling, and average QB play...Eagles Offense still managed 489 yards total offense vs Bills, and the week before against a pretty solid 49ers defense put up 513 total yards. I think Philly's issues on offense are much easier to fix than their defense. We are by no means a team who can survive a shootout with Philly, we are not built like that. We need to control the ball on offense and keep the Iggles off the field. Time of possesion, we are averaging something like 33 mins per game, thats helping us win. Run the ball. |
Re: Redemption Week!!
Yeah with all the yards and points they put up, they also shoot themselves in the foot time and time again with turnovers. That's a big problem, and more than just a little bad luck.
|
Re: Redemption Week!!
I saw an interview with "someone" who questioned whether the Iggles players had really prepared themselves or did they think they would just walk over people? I'm not sure if that's part of their problem or not but their defense can definitely be taken advantage of.

What I do like with the match up, is Philly has a ton of pressure on them. This is a must win for them early. AND this type of must win has job implications on the coaching staff. I really believe for the first time in Reid's career that the calls for his firing along with his Defense cordinator (Juan) are very valid. Leadership on that team is a mess too. Vick has looked bad on camera lately and too many new guys on that defense. |

Nice clip 44. They can call all the players meetings they want. Pressure Vick and he WILL make mistakes and we WILL get TO's.

Kerrigan/Orakpo will make the difference this time around. |
Re: Redemption Week!!
Can't wait for this game to get here! It's been said, but the biggest thing is not to allow 60-80 yd TD's. If they get a long pass or run, that's ok actually, just make them earn the TD in the trenches. They can be stopped there. Anyone know the breakdown of their scores (curious really) between over 30yd plays, and <15 yd plays. I am guessing a very high percentage of their TD's come from quick strike plays, if so, we just can't let the endzone be there final destination.
edit: looked up the stats myself, I was kinda off, but still think it's valid: TDs <10yds 7 (most on screen passes, that I think our D is designed to stop, again here our front 7 can be very effective) <20 3 ( the 10 to 19yd line scares me because all the threats are available and a seam would be exploitable - course maybe Vicks Ribs get roughed up) >20yds 3, plus one defensive fumble return for 46yds. But the FG's they've made kinda side with the point I was thinking: <25yds (or inside the 8) 3 - I don't see their offense punching it in. Even the short TDs often were 2yd passes, and we can defense those <35yds(9 - 18 yd line) 5 - or 8 total redzone possessions that ended in FG's compared to 10 TD's. I don't know how many possessions ended with no points >35yd, 1 FG. that's surprising. |

Right, this is why we NEED. POINTS. EARLY. I see the "us against the world" mentality as a potential positive for the Eagles, especially if they come out sharp. It becomes "us vs. us" if the Redskins force the same mistakes and expose the same weaknesses that the Eagles team/media/fans have been stewing about for a week. |

I cant remember whom on ESPN I heard talk about this last year, I think it was John Clayton, who said how Vick was acting now was not as telling as how he acted once he was a super star again. I think Vick is acting entitled and arrogant and I think that is who he actually is. I was all for giving Vick a second chance and letting the dog fighting thing go, but he is starting to act like a spoiled rich kid again. |

Well I expect Philly to come out razor sharp on offense. I expect them to be agressive, we need to match that aggressiveness with our defense. And this year we can. I know this might sound crazy, but I would prefer us to run early. I would like to see the playcall run run run until we cross the 50, and then open up the passing game. Rex needs to protect the ball better and giving Philly a short field to work with whether its special teams or us turning the ball over will lose us the game. I would like a Helu package in the redzone...the guy is too fast not to be getting the ball there. |

The Eagles will turn it around at some point. Just hope it is not against us. The addition of our new FS Atogwe and the return to health of Dirty 30 at SS instead of FS (this time), will make a big difference in not giving up the long plays we gave them last year. Buchanon is back to add solid depth and the improved play of Barnes and Westbrook will help. We control Vick (passing /scrambling) and the passing game and we should win. We have to be careful with our blitzing. Don't want to see a repeat of the ill advised blitzing of the Dallas game. The Eagles defensive front 7 is weak and undisciplined against the run. Thier DE's especially Babin are having all kinds of problem containing and setting the edge. This bodes well for the stretch run plays and play action. Yertle the Turtle Grossman will have to unload the ball quickly. Hopefully he spent the bye week working on his footwork and his set up speed. He needs to find another gear in speeding up his set up to throw, especially in the play action. It is painfully slow. The Eagles can rush the passer and create Grossman's most consistent move, the turnover. Grossman needs to protect the ball. Please |
Re: Redemption Week!!
Vick certainly looks beaten mentally as well as physically. He seems to have lost hope in himself and his "dream team". I think he can go either way at this point, if allowed, he can reassert himself and find new life or if we can get to him early, we can take whatever life is left in him and the Eagles this season. It's so important for us to strike first this game.
