Re: Potential Epic Fail
So I went back to the first NYG game and last years Rams game, painful, and compared the drives from both years:
This year 10 out of 15 drives >30 yds , 5 drives > 70 yds Results: P(unt), I(nt), TD,P,TD,FG,FG,Fu(mble),FG,D(owns) 2 punts, 2 TO's, 5 scores(3 FG, 2 TDs), 1 downs (in scoring position) Last year 9 out of 18 drives>30 yds , 1 drive > 70 yds Results: P, Downs, End of Game, Fu,Fu,P,Fu, FG,TD 2 punts, 3 TO's, 2 scores(1 FG, 1 TD), 1 end of game, 1 downs(outside of scoring position), all drives less then 30 yds ended with punts. I do see this as improvement and I think it will continue |
Re: Potential Epic Fail
Some percentages:
this year:66% > 30yds last year:50% this year:50% of the > 30yds ended in scores last year:11% of the >30 yds ended in scores. patience is a virtue. Dynasties are not built in a day. |
Re: Potential Epic Fail
So what I took from it.....3 fewer drives and only one more positive result then last yr. But we are getting better. Last yr we had 2 scores and this yr 5. but field goals count as scores.
I'm sure this was supposed to be a positive thread, to point out the positives, to help relax people but for the last 9 yrs the team has had trouble scoring more then 20 points. They have had trouble in the red zone all 9 yrs also. I'm just having a little trouble. Sorry believing. |

I don't see why people can come on here every week and act like things are just fine and will turn around every week when that clearly isn't happening.. and hasn't since many of us can remember.. we hear "it's only one game" or "well if this hadn't have happened" .. etc ... single games can matter, things DO happen we plain don't look good and anyone who can be confident about this team lives in a land of gummy bears (minus whatever colors that they don't like), the brady bunch, and random naked supermodels
You are forgetting a third option: I stayed behind even though I knew Katrina, which went right through my town, would be bad. Post-Katrina, when for weeks I had no power, telephone, and water, I found ways to enjoy the experience. So it is with the Skins. They may bring disaster but I'm not going anywhere else with my rooting. And there is always something positive to take away. In terms of positives, we are moving the ball between the 20's much better this year. We need to get over the red zone hump, for sure. But we've got 14 more games to get better. The defense seems to be getting better and may be a joy to watch by Thanksgiving. |

To me, people who expect us to "all of a sudden" be top flight are the ones acting crazy. We ended bad last year and we're only 2 games into this season. I think anyone who expected us to come stomping ass out of the gate are the ones living in lala land. What I see is an offense using more weapons then we did last year. I see JC throwing the ball a lot more and the offense opening up. I see a defense, that given a little more time playing together, being one of the best we've had in years. When was the last time we had someone like AH and Orakpo on our team? Hell, throw Jarmon in there while your at it. We wanted more passing, we got it. We wanted Kelly involved, we got it. El's in the slot where he belongs for the first time since he's been here and doing a fine job. Cooley has already caught a TD and is playing lights out. The biggest gripe everyone has is the redzone. I think you're assuming we won't improve there. I think you're wrong. I think we will and how good will we be then? We were fortunate enough to get a schedule that allows us to improve while playing lesser teams having some of the same problems. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I didn't expect us to be great out of the gate but I want us to become great as the season goes along. I see improvement so unlike some others I'm not ready to throw in the towel after 2 games. If you want to, be my guest. I find these, panic oh my god the seasons over after 2 games posts as irritating as you find my optimism to be honest with you. |

I knew what I expected to see, but if it had been negative, I would have said that also. What I did find, was across the board improvement. we had more sustained drives, both numerically and by percentage. Yes we had fewer overall drives, but that's because we didn't sputter on alot. we scored more off our drives. Yes they need to make more TD's and less FGs, but again, the opportunities existed this year where they did not last year. last year we had 1 drive of 70+ yds, this year we had 5 drives of 70+ drives. All of that is improvement. Against the same two teams, you name a category and we improved on it this year. We went 1-1, last year 0-2. So be negative my friend, but atleast when Zorn says there has been improvement from last year, know that he isn't bald face lying. Just wearing (slightly) tinted glasses |

Re: Potential Epic Fail
This would all be cool but yards dont win games. We can move up and down the field all day long, doesnt matter if you cant score in the RZ. 0-4 wont get it done. Zorn better get it in gear over these next 3 games.

Re: Potential Epic Fail
It's funny, if we come away with 2 TDs instead of FGs and won 17-7 does this thread even exist?

I think its the fact thate we were turned away 4 times by the RAMS. had it been the Steelers with the same score nothing would be said. |

Yeah I get that. Minus the RZ issues there really wasn't much to complain about, but of course scoring TDs is the name of the game and it's a big area that needs to be fixed. |

Not to mention the fact that any realistic person would have us at 1-1 right now. Which makes me think...I don't think there are any bad teams in the NFL. In the last two weeks, teams that have played terrible one week, have done better the next. I mean even the Rams who laid an egg against Seattle, played us tough and could have won. Some of us want to be arrogant and say for a fact that our team is going to beat X team. Right now I would say that there are few teams that can say that. Even Detroit was up 10-0 against Minny last week and played a good half. |

Hell yeah! The Seahawks gave up zero points to the Rams, and now we give up 7 to them? Our D blows!! |
Re: Potential Epic Fail
No better team than the Lions to finally get this offense going

Re: Potential Epic Fail
it is only week 2 and I try to look for positives, but one thing keeps poppin into my mind and its hard to ignore. WE ARE TIED WITH THE FRIGGAN BROWNS FOR 31ST IN THE LEAGUE IN SCORING. Dallas Scored on the Gmen and we struggled vs the Rams. its not like we faced the Steelers and the Ravens these first 2 games.
