I agree. Matty doesn't know what the hell he's talking about
Seriously though, I would look to make some trades and get some more picks in the first 4 rounds so that we can take a QB by the 2nd round but still be able to add other players. On top of that, I suspect we'd be very active (more so than expected) in free agency.
Or how about still getting someone like Hoyer? |

Not sure Hoyer would be up for that. He's ready to be a starter if he's going to go anywhere |

Sign PM. Trade down from #6 so that we still had picks to select a QB, OL, and WR before the second round ends. WIN. To me signing PM also means acquiring his successor. And if we want that successor to be good, it behooves us to draft him in the first 2 rounds. |

If he can't, this entire thing is moot. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Yeah I don't get that either.
Becasue if you watch him every week for every snap (like I have ) you will see he is average at best. I thin ka lot of fans wanted hi mto be the next best thing and now realize he is not so they are bitter. I don't hate the guy I think he is better then what we have but I also beleive he is as good as he is going to be. I think it would be safe to say if the Ravens had a healthy PM under center this year they would have at least been in the Super Bowl. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I think the Redskins would feel the same way and this is the exact reason I am lukewarm on the idea of signing Peyton.
Which was the same plan with McNabb and that set us back big time. I don't want go down that road again. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I'm still not so sure entirely what to believe on Manning. My understanding is they don't really intend to negotiate with Manning. They have a set "take it or leave" deal in mind (don't know what the terms are). And if he accepts great. If not, they move on.
Well, by the sound of it, it doesn't sound like they really HAVE to negotiate with Manning. After all, it sounds like he would be happy with an incentive laced contract as opposed to a lot of guaranteed money up front. If this happens to be true, I'm sure any GM would jump on that deal in a heartbeat. It would be a no-brainer to sign PM then. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
OMG, ok folks can we lay of the Chris Weinke BS? We could say the very same thing about each QB. Let me show you....
"I don't want PM cause he might turn out to be another McNabb." "I don't want RGIII or Luck cause they might turn out to be another J.Campbell." You see. We all want so bad for the QB we want to take to be picked so we over look their possible fault and talk big about all the other QB's faults. All I know is we had a look at Weeden and how he somewhat could run our basic offense and he did very well. Even the INT in the Senior Bowl can't be blamed on him like some would like to believe, he was hit in the lower back while trying to deliver the ball and the ball was INTed. The bad news is we don't even know how RGIII or Luck would look in our offense or if they would even get along with our coaching staff. "You know we wouldn't want to throw all those draft picks at a Rookie QB whom we don't even know if he can play in the NFL or might turn out to be a dud cause they are not playing in the spread offense or are having to take the ball from the Center 60-70% of the time which they didn't do in college."
I'm just not interested in drafting a 28 year old to be our "qb of the future". That is where the Weinke comparison comes in. A ton of picks for Luck >>>>>>>>> one pick on Weedon. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
So what would you guys rather have:
QB Robert Griffin III RB Roy Helu RB Evan Royster WR Leonard Hankerson WR Jabar Gaffney WR FA WR TE Fred Davis TE Chris Cooley or QB Peyton Manning QB Ryan "Clark Kent" Tannehill RB Roy Helu RB Evan Royster WR Justin Blackmon WR Leonard Hankerson WR Jabar Gaffney WR FA WR TE Fred Davis TE Chris Cooley |

Edit: nevermind, I see what you are getting at now. I agree. Can't get PM without also getting a young stud. Otherwise we might reprise the Curtis Painter Experience. |

Exactly...it's to big a risk to take without backing it up with as good a rookie QB as you can get your hands on. No one knows if Peyton is playing 1 or 100 more games... |

The Redskins need to get out of the needy habit of acquiring quarterbacks from other teams. Brad Johnson, Tony Banks, Mark Brunell, Todd Collins, Donovan McNabb....will this crap ever stop? While Johnson and Brunell did guide us to playoff appearances, that's all they did. That is as far as they took us. I understand that Peyton Manning is the best QB since Marino, but how much will the Redskins offense improve with him at the helm? Will he be able to play in a west coast offense after being in the same offense for Indy for so long? Will he call his own plays like he's used to doing? Why would he want to play for a team like Washington who is not only rebuilding, but tries to micro manage what their QB does? I can see lots of conflict taking place between Peyton and Kyle Shanahan and it will result the same as with McNabb. The Redskins need to do whatever it takes to land their future QB in the draft. Last year we stockpiled draft selections and this offseason Washington needs to give up some draft selections in order to find their passer. If Landry Jones and Matt Barkley had declared for the NFL draft then the Redskins would have more healthy options. But with RG3 and A. Luck being the best two QBs in the upcoming draft, Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan need to do what it takes even if it means giving up a lot in order to land one of these two young quarterbacks two months from now. |

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
I agree with 30gut, if we get PM you've gotta take your best shot at winning now and that would mean getting him as much help as possible.
I don't neccessarily agree with taking a QB in round 4 or beyond but I do agree there needs to be a heavy dose of offense brought in. Thats not to say our defense is done. I'm saying the defense held it's own pretty well I think and we could stand to pick up a FS and depending on how our FA's play out possibly a CB. If the team does pick up Manning then I'd look to trade back for more picks as SS has stated and get more picks, then I'd take a developemental QB in round 2, and then look for OL. Depending on how many times we could trade back for more picks I might even look for another WR, TE, and possibly FB. The team needs to atleast pick up 1 really good WR in free agency. Christmas if they got two. |
