Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Bruce Allen love him or hate him is a big reason why our cap space is what it is today. Also, I work in the government sector every contract we have ALWAYS comes down to the last possible day before something signed, its the general of contracts.
We will be the only team in NFL history to let their starting QB go after having 2 consecutive seasons with over 4,000 passing yards. That's a fact, not an alternative fact, a real one.
Snyder has hated Cousins from day one because Cousins is a constant reminder of how Dan Snyder's personal pet project RG3 flamed out in the NFL. He is also a reminder of the superbowl winning coach that told Snyder flat out that you can't win with RG3 in the NFL, and who Snyder fired. The redskins will draft another top QB so that Snyder can have his jersey sales again, but make no mistake, it will be someone that Snyder hand picks - Coaches and GM's be damned. Why do we keep supporting this same old shit? As long as Snyder is here, we're not going to accomplish a damn thing. Time for folks to wake up
now that he is bickering with Arnold it is no longer alternative facts it is called true lies. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
You guys really need to stop hanging on every last word lol, Allen along with Jay said they expect him to be back. There are more decision makers than the big 4 too, or more people that have input I should say.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
It's odd that SS put it at 45%. I mean by all accounts, Scot, Jay and Bruce want him back So unless Eric Schaffer is screaming bloody murder about the contract I would have thought that number would be a lot higher.
That said, At most we have 3 1/2 weeks until the Franchise deadline of March 1st. And 4 weeks till the choruses of either WE PAID TOO MUCH or WE SHOULDA SIGNED HIM begin |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Snake come back off the ledge, man. You're talking yourself into calamity again. Let's just wait and see. We have a full month to go before we get to the point of franchise tags.

With SS putting the odds on signing Kirk at 45%, I'm about ready to step out on the ledge with Snake. The only way those odds could be under 50% when Scot, Bruce, and Jay support Kirk is if Dan Snyder is not on board. Was it Mike Shanahan who said that the only position Dan Snyder cares about is QB? It's our bad luck that Snyder doesn't know jack about evaluating QB's but still thinks he should decide who our QB will be, or not be. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Where is everyone getting their information whether DS likes or doesn't like Kirk? Do you have a link or quote from DS himself?
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
My personal opinion is...on what planet does someone need convincing? Have you looked around the league lately?
I really hope Snyder will leave this one alone. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I think it's possible Snyder remembers Archuletta, Haynesworth, and sees Osweiller and Fitzgerald and cringes at paying KC.
IF (and I have no facts saying it is) that is the case, he needs to let it go and pay da man |

If he is saying 45%, then get ready for 5-11 next year with Colt. Moreover, I do remember the quote about Dan only wanting input on the QB position. Maybe that's why Kirk has been all over social media, sport talk 980, and now fox and friend to help market himself for Dan to buy in.. If only Jack Kent Cook would have left the organization to John!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well he did say 45% chance of a long term deal getting done.

My bad for getting the long-term deal part wrong. Still, how stupid would it be to Franchise Tag Cousins again? We've gone over the Franchise Tag pros and cons, so I won't get into that but I think the decision this season will be binary, i.e. "Do we sign him to a long term deal or trade him?". There are no other reasonable options, IMHO. |

I don't see the point in tagging him again either, it will only escalate his price or he walks away for nothing once we can't use the tag anymore. But you can't say it's off the table as an option. |

Per Rich Tandler: Is this Cousins deal really going to happen? You always have to be wary of anything coming out of Redskins Park. But by my count Bruce Allen has expressed confidence that the team will get a long-term deal done with Cousins three times now. Once on SiriusXM NFL Radio, once at the Senior Bowl with JP Finlay and now here on ESPN 980. This seems to have a different vibe than last year, when everyone seemed to be resigned to Cousins playing on the tag. I checked my saved notes and I've racked my memory, I don't recall one instance of the team president coming out and saying that he was sure that there will be a long-term deal. That's a significant difference. That doesn't mean that a deal is inevitable. From the sound of things negotiations are in the early stages if they've started at all. It's not at all clear if Allen intends to get a deal done by the March 1 franchise tag deadline or by the July 15 deadline for a tagged player to reach a deal. There is a long way to go. But the vibe seems to be there and that's something that never seemed to be present a year ago. |

I said it wasn't a reasonable option which, of course, doesn't preclude Redskins management from doing something stupid. I don't think Redskins management is stupid and so I concluded that the only two options that make sense are a long-term contract or a trade. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
With all the cap space money, one alternative is to give him a nice chunk of guaranteed $$$ and break the rest of the $$$ into future years. I don't like it, but it could be an alternative, I'm sure they will figure it out.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Man, I'm so glad I backed out of making an opinion till there is an actual announcement on this thread. Mock drafting is way more relaxing.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
If Cousins intends to be paid like the #1 QB in the league, he will be non-exclusively tagged. They are willing to pay him but it won't be outrageous. So it's up to both sides to meet in the middle.

The Skins FO is officially on the clock. Jay Gruden's most important offseason as a head coach. Hope he is up to the challenge.

Saw another article just today that said Cousins is still on Kyle Shanahan's list and is considered a top priority. Rumors that he will also obtain Matt Schaub, to be Cousins' veteran backup, or spot starter until they get their long term guy

It's funny that you say that because when I was playing Madden over the summer, my first offseason obviously Cousins was one of the guys to re-sign. He absolutely WOULD NOT take a penny less than 24.8 million or something close to that. Very interesting because i believe the first "suggested" offer that the game makes for you was around 22 or 23 million, and the Kirk Cousins avatar said flatly "You need to come up with a higher yearly amount". I thought it was funny at the time never believing that we were going to be in this shape today |

It's funny you would say that because everyone knows the baseline for contract negotiations is Madden. |

I managed to sign him in Madden for 4 years $60m. Totally realistic.

Good point. Just felt like putting him in the middle, in front of the others, on a picture with only five players (I mean this is not a photomontage with 10+ players), makes it look like an endorsement. Like "this is the face of the franchise". But, like many things management said the past few days, it could also turn out to be a good argument to say "we wanted to sign him, we were 100% sure we would, he didn't want to negotiate at all"... |

I don't think it means much, it's a recycled photo from earlier in the year. But I do put stock in Bruce Allen rating it a 10 out of 10 when asked what the likelihood of Cousins being back.

Well to be honest, he wasn't asked about the likelihood of KC being back, if was asked "on a scale to 1 to 10 what is te likelihood of Cousins being back? 10? Is that a 10? -Yes it's a 10". So I'm not sure how much it means either. More than a FB post for sure. I'm just trying to get a sense of how would they look, with all the signals sent to the world, if they don't bring him back. |
