Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Starting QB IMO should be JB. Grossman fan's won't have to wait long according to what you've been saying JB will last about an hour then MS/KS will yank him and Grossman will go in. I don't see that happening but JB to start we Know what Grossman can do & can't do.

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
if we're winning/looking good offensively, it doesn't really matter. grossman is 20-13 i heard as a starter (did not confirm), both are pushing 30, and neither one is going to the probowl, so it's whatever.
average QB A vs average QB B isn't nearly as exciting as the local sports media is making it out to be (or, rather, isn't a story worth nearly as much press as it's been given). |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I h ave to agree with That Guy, both are not exactly franchise QBs. I just picked Grossman since he has more starts under his belt. Beck is more mobile, but mobility doesn't translate into wins. just look at Vick in ATL.

Vick didn't do jack shit in practice or the film room. If your comparison is to hold, then Beck is doing the same as Vick in the film room: nothing in practice or in the film room. Beck's attitude is strongy pointed in the direction opposite of Michael Vick's. He takes every practice and film study seriously. Beck is more like Todd Collins than Vick in Atlanta. On a separated note, Chase Daniel is currently entrenched as Drew Brees' backup. Pretty good. |

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
BECK.
Hopefully Beck will win the job over Grossman, he seems much more mobile. Rex throws to the wrong team when he's pressured, or just misses wide open WRs like that horrible pass to Moss when he was one-on-one with Suggs last game. I'd prefer to have Beck get his shot and be more comfortable with Grossman coming in as a backup. I think we'd be in better shape if we have to replace Beck with Rex than if Rex goes down/can't do the job and we have to bring in a backup without a resume. Lets see what Beck can do and have an experienced backup on hand. Seems to be the better route to me. Besides, Beck looks better anyways...he should win the job without any considerations on who would be the better backup...John just looks like the better starter, period. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
like ive said before, im waiting in line with my plate ready to get my heaping helping of crow once john beck, (I cant believe im saying this) becomes a pro bowl caliber qb for the b&g.

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I've got 2 QB's that can run my offense and thru this Preseason they are neck and neck in most eyes. One is a vet with 8 years behind him while the other is a 30 something who looks just as good with only a 4 game experence from 07.
If they are playing equal now, to me, that means the unknown is playing at the Vets level without his game time. Thus with game experence he can get better while the vet has proven to have reached his high water mark already! I'm choosing the new guy because no one knows yet what his level of play can be imvho! |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Beck IMO..
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Might as well let Beck have a crack at it. Geesh whats there to argue or figure out here.
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I understood Shanahan is going to wait the very last minute to let people know who his starter is, but is it possible that tonight's game would give us some hints?
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I don't really care who starts to be honest. Its kinda like asking me which brand of oatmeal I prefer. It doesn't really matter to me but it will hold me over until I can make it to the store and get some kind of high-sodium pork product.

Riggo is reporting on facebook that his "inside source" is telling him Shanahan has made his decision, and he is going with Beck to start the season opener. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I said Beck, hoping he has an undiscovered upside!!! I have been impressed w/ his 1) accuracy 2) mobility. It's a solid foundation to start with. That said I know there's been a lot of "build up" in his own mind to winning the starting job. Seems like the guy puts tons of pressure on himself. Shanny Co would be wise to give Beck time to settle down, which could be a couple/few games. Worst case scenario is he starts w/ some jitters and gets yanked (too soon) IMO.

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
By virtue that Beck is playing and and Rex is not in this meaningless game.....REX IS THE STARTER?
|
Grossman is the starting QB. I guarantee it.
If you start Beck over Grossman you lose Grossman mentally.
He is a better QB than Beck right now. Everyone knows it. He knows it. This is his last best chance to become a legit QB. Beck is lucky to be on an NFL roster. Dude has done nothing in his career. He would be thrilled to be the #3 QB on any NFL team. SURE he wants to be the man, but he will be happy to wait in line a little longer for his turn. It's Rex's time to get that so called "last best shot." You can easily bench Grossman and go with Beck during the year if things go South. On the other hand Grossman will be furious if he doesn't get this opportunity going into his third year in this system. Grossman looked good against the Steelers and the Ravens. Beck looked terribly average against the backup Bucs. Case closed. |
Re: Grossman is the starting QB. I guarantee it.
Grossman also had the starting RB/WR in the game against Pitt for the first half when Pitt took their 1st team out after the 1st drive.
I don't really think anything is guaranteed at this moment. Beck and Grossman have both had their share of ups/downs, or did you forget about Grossman's 2nd half against the Colts? I think Beck is still the starter for week 1. So I guess we will wait and see.. Beck is going to have ups/downs this season. Nobody is predicting him to come in and be the next Tom Brady or Romo. If Grossman is the starter, we all know what we get from him. |
Re: Grossman is the starting QB. I guarantee it.
Beck is 30 he ain't waiting any longer and I'm not so sure Rex is better IMO. I think both are honestly about the same, 2 guys that won't be here very long.
|

in other words, let's just defer this decision to the coaches lol |
Re: Grossman is the starting QB. I guarantee it.
let's wait and see what happens in the 2nd half.

Someone make an argument as to why I shouldn't merge this with the "who do you want to start at QB" thread.....

|
Re: Grossman is the starting QB. I guarantee it.
Its definitely looking like Grossman at this point.
Thats what I wanted before the preseason started anyways. |
Re: Grossman is the starting QB. I guarantee it.
Seeing that Rex didn't play I would think he's the guy but we will see

Because everyone can make fun of me when I'm wrong. (: And I'm not some Noob who just starts thread willy nilly. (: I got nothing. |
Re: Grossman is the starting QB. I guarantee it.
He could of not played because Beck didn't play the first game?
Who knows at this point lol. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
This just in John Beck will be named starter for Giant game. Coach If I Tell You, I'd Have To Kill You has inadvertently given it away. A tie goes to the Kid, unless the Bucs B team forces him to play poorly. - Riggins
Don't know what source he has as I can't really agree at this point. I want it to be Beck, but after tonight showing who can tell? |

(: I got nothing.
It's not going to be too long before the starter is announced and both threads become obsolete, so in the meantime we'll keep that discussion in one place. But for the record I agree with you. Shanny rested his starting QB tonight, and Rex will start week one. That way should the wheels fall off the Grossman train, he can put in his pet project in Beck. If he starts Beck from the jump and he sucks, he looks less sharp as a HC for hitching so much of his giddyup on a 30 year old never-was... |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I wouldn't put too much stock in tonight. I believe the decision has already been made.
|

We can't seem to get by 17 points.

Yup. Rex, along with many of the other starters, sat on the sidelines tonight. |

Rex wins the competition, if it were me making the decision.

The moment that Rex was slated to sit out this game, and the fact Shanny sits his starters last preseason game was enough to put the pieces together. |

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I think too much is being put into Rex not playing tonight.
1 -- The starting OLine played the whole first half with Beck which would seem to argue against the "shanny sits his starters" idea 2 -- Grossman is very much a known quantity (where is johnny5 lol) 3 -- Beck missed the first preseason game and needed snaps and practice I will be glad once it is over, and I hope they don't wait to announce the decision, although the team may very well already know (what did TWilliams say;)) |
