Wow, you're young! I think I've seen BTTF more times than any other movie I've ever seen. Love that movie! You need to see the whole trilogy though. I really liked #2, not #3 as much but you need to see them anyway. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Yeah I want to watch 2&3 now, I'm sure I'll get an opportunity to eventually because all three of those movies are on t.v. a lot.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
We should start a book thread like the movie thread. I am reading King's Duma Key right now it is a really page turner.

Damn, i thought everybody had seen Back to the Future. Classic, 80s movie. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
So I finally did some catching-up with movies this weekend. I saw There Will Be Blood on Saturday and Into the Wild on Sunday.
There Will Be Blood was solid, but I didn't like it as much as I expected to. Into The Wild, however, was outstanding. The way it builds and then the denouement (you like that itvnetop?!) is amazing. The movie was heartwarming, heartbreaking, uplifting and frightening all at the same time. This is one of those movies that stick in your mind for a long time after the movie. Definitely recommend it. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just saw Black Snake Moan yesterday, I thought it was another good movie. Solid acting all around and nice storyline as well. Justin Timberlake did a pretty good job acting in it as well, when I saw his name was in the storyline I wasn't expecting much but he did a nice job all around.

Anyone see Indiana Jones? It was terrible.

I plan on seeing it tomorrow night. I have heard some pretty mixed reviews (too much CGI for one) but I sort of feel obliged to see it. I mean I saw all the other ones. Raiders of the Lost Ark is actually the first movie I remember seeing in a theater. |

Yes too much CGI for sure, and overall I just not impressed. This comes from a big Indiana Jones fan. |
Yes too much CGI for sure, and overall I just not impressed. This comes from a big Indiana Jones fan.
I agree that there was way too much CGI and that really annoyed me. Also, I didn't think that they developed the new characters enough.
It seemed to me like they were trying to hard to make it really action packed and that it took away from the actual story. I feel like big Indy fans ought to see it just because but it was a bit disappointing. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I sense it will be similar to Star Wars. Episodes 4-6 (Star Wars, Empire, Jedi) were fun action movies with good storylines. And everyone thought with improved special effects that Episodes 1-3 would be even better.
But they sacrificed character development for cool effects and it was like adding technicolor to a classic black and white show. It just didn't seem right. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Seems like it's getting ok reviews...

Into the Wild was a fine film, for sure. I did get a bit upset at the guy's lack of preparation for certain aspects of his new surroundings... but that's what makes the story so powerful- the range of emotions, as you said. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I watched The Man from Earth last night. Great low-budget (really, really, low budget) flick.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just got around to seeing "Next" with Nicholas Cage. Its pretty good IMO. Jessica Beil is HOT.

Very good movie. For me, it was an uneasy good movie, if that makes sense. It was one of those movies that I kept thinking about after it was over. Great acting/directing/score/scenery. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Saw The Strangers on Friday.
Save the $10. Not even worth the R rating... People in the theater talked throughout the whole movie and thats pretty much what made it entertaining. My advice: Wait till it they start playing it on cable. |
Re: Getting ready for an awesome year of movies
Hot Fuzz looks like it's going to be great, but I might be biased because Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies.
There are some other movies that look pretty good to me (the new Halloween movie from Rob Zombie, Pathfinder, Spiderman3, Die Hard, The Simpsons Bourne Ultimatum, etc) but there aren't any that I feel like I have to see right away.
Don't waist your time with Hot Fuzz. It's a giant pile of steaming crap. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
For those a bit twisted, rent the unrated version of "Inside." It's a new French horror flick... just watched it and I still can't believe what I just saw (don't even read the reviews on it- some contain spoilers in the headings).

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just saw 3:10 to Yuma the other night. It was a pretty good movie.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Netflixed "Ocean's Thirteen" and watched it yesterday. It was good in a cheesy Vegas kind of way. Definitely a lot less realistic than the other 2 (even though they weren't very realistic to begin with), but if you can look past that, it's a pretty good flick.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Was Oceans Thirteen better than Twelve?
I just watched Twelve the other night and I really struggled to get through it. |
Re: Getting ready for an awesome year of movies
Don't waist your time with Hot Fuzz. It's a giant pile of steaming crap.
I could not disagree with you more.
The first time I watched it I thought it was okay, but not that great. Since then I've watched it about 2.5 more times (it was on TV the other night but it was like 2am and I couldn't stay awake) and, like Shaun of the Dead, I think it gets funnier every time I see it because I pick up more subtle jokes. It's completely different from a lot of comedies that are out now (ie Judd Apatow movies) but I think that it's just as good, if not better. A lot of the Judd Apatow, Frat Pack movies rely on improv and situational humor, which is all well and good; but the Simon Pegg, Edgar White, Nick Frost movies (Shaun and Hot Fuzz) have much smarter writing. The other funny thing about them is that they both sort of work as a horror flick or action/thriller, only they're funny as all hell. Seriously, if you liked Shaun of the Dead you HAVE to watch Hot Fuzz, maybe more a couple of times. |

It's strange for us to be on the exact same page about movies, but for Twelve after we saw it the first time, we were. However, the more I've watched it, the more I've enjoyed it. You start to understand more of the inside stuff. Thirteen was likable out of the box for us. Plus Super Dave Osborne is in it... |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I watched Semi-Pro on PPV yesterday. Blah...
At this point, I'm convinced Will Ferrell will never be able to top Anchorman. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Thirteen can be a bit confusing at first, but it definitely flushes itself out better than Twelve did.
