Ron Rivera Thread

Rivera has all the leverage in these negotiations. Dan knows that many teams want him and are at better starting points than the Redskins. Rivera may want guaranteed money and huge levels of control written into the contract. Ultimately if Snyder wants him he will have to give it.

For all the people saying “it’s the same old thing” there are several differences:

1. No Cerrato or Allen in the structure, which was how Snyder secretly wielded management on the draft, FA, etc.

2. Snyder is using an outside group of NFL guru’s for advice, versus the Cerrato/Allen toadie who just told him anything solely so THEY could stay in power. All these boot-lickers wanted was another year in power.

3. One of the advisors is rumored to be former GM himself, McLovin’. Paybacks a bitch isn’t it BA!

4. To get someone of the caliber of Rivera, I’m sure Snyder is giving up most, if not all his influence on football decisions. Rivera has leverage and he’s using it!! It is obvious to Rivera or any other major candidate, that Snyder and his lackey’s influence in the organization is what killed outstanding former HC like Gibbs and Shanahan. That’s the BIGGEST CHANGE. BA gone and no new “yes man” in his place!!

I cautiously optimistic ONCE RIVERA IS SIGNED.

There are indications Snyder has changed, but sources who have worked for him anticipate he will still be involved.

One source said Snyder's input often came through "backdoor ways," funneled through others in charge, such as Allen. It wasn't just about drafting Haskins -- the Redskins knew they had to take a quarterback. It was about making decisions on which free agents to pay and who the team would let leave.

"Critical decisions," the source said.

Like trading Kendall Fuller and a pick for Alex Smith then resign him to a mega deal even though he was still on contract?

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

Again, let’s see if Snyder changes. He’s always had a lackey GM to internally helping him micromanage the team. I would be extremely surprised if Rivera or any premium HC candidate would allow the past system of failure, with Snyder and his buddy GM sticking their grubby paws into team football decisions.

With 20 years of failure of this franchise model of management, Rivera is an absolute fool if he doesn’t severely restrict Snyder’s input into football decisions. Snyder fired his buddy Bruce Allen. He’s using outside NFL guru’s for advice. He’s trying to bring in an excellent HC, at the price of his involvement in the internal management of the team.

I’m cautiously optimistic that the old Redskins way for the last 20 years, will be put to bed. Let’s see!

Well it's pretty late in the day,if Rivera's coming in today was a formality why hasnt he been announced as coach yet? That's a little worrisome

Like I said, Rivera is totally in the drivers seat in this negotiations. He could go to almost any other team, with a better situation. So, I’m sure he’s pushing for maximum player draft and FA control, his own guaranteed salary, perhaps who works at GM, coaching control; limiting Snyder’s influence in football decisions.

Dan Snyder is definitely not used to conceding this much power to a HC. He may be pushing back at all the concessions to Rivera’s demands. He either gives in to Rivera and all his demands or this will go downhill quickly. If Rivera leaves this negotiation, other top HC candidates may look at the Redskins as unfixable.

Half of the Snyder / Allen “problem” was Snyder himself. He’s done well by firing BA, as many on this site said he would never do. Now he may be limiting his own management on football issues in order to hire Rivera.....or not!

That’s bullshit.

Julie Donaldson, who has been on this story from the beginning, says they are going very well.

Fred smoot says they left the park and having dinner together right now... with president Obama.

Or....Dan is all in on a fresh start and is going to rename the team as part of the offseason changes.

Yeah I tried to go back in to edit my post to clarify that is how i took it, but i guess it didn’t go through.

That things are going well is legit though.

Julie has been close to the action. I’m sure she was fed that info by the team executives. This is not just a normal HC signing. He will probably have a top, guaranteed salary, vast power within the football part of the organization, and he may want written assurances of autonomy from Snyder himself! That takes awhile to hammer out, versus just agreeing to a salary and having the pressie.
