I'm sure they were taking it for granted that he would be back, but Denver blew Dawkins away with an offer.
Denver minus Shanahan appears to be one of those organizations with no direction. But it absoultely hurts the quality of the Eagles defense. They simply got outbid.
But, and I don't have a link sorry, Dawkins gave an interview in it where he basically said that he WANTED to go back, and was treated in a very "business like" you are 36 and skills diminishing. So I think the organization could have made a counter offer close and still got him back. |

One that, by neccessity, requires that none of the megalomaniac teams freak out and throw something close to ten million dollars guaranteed at a safety over the age of 35.
The Eagles absoulely got boned here. But they did play it by the book. I guess at this point, you look at their cap situation and wonder why they aren't picking their spots better to deviate from the book. Again, that doesn't make this a wrong move by the Eagles, but the big problem is that you can very easily predict what they are going to do personnel wise. |
Re: Springs Released
For Dawkins though, oh boy! Last year, he's the 7th or 8th best player on his defense, and half of his responsibilities are Joe Gibbs type managerial roles out there on the field.
This year, he's a year older, and he's all they've got. |

And that message is fine for some players, but a lot, like Kurt Warner for example, want that feeling of "Hey I am appreciated here". Maybe that doesn't matter, but I know for me, I appreciate it when my employer makes gestures that let me know I am more than just a cog in a machine. (Even if I really am) |
Re: Springs Released
Tra Thomas is a bit miffed right now that the Eagles don't want him, but the OL did decline last year with Shawn Andrews out and Thomas and Runyan seem to be the main culprits for that.
Still, I'd offer Tra a contract. (as the Eagles, not the Redskins) |
Re: Springs Released
you wouldn't want tra or dawkins on the skins at big contracts for the same reasons the eagles don't want them.
they simply don't overpay for average players (often... they missed on paying kearse and missed on not paying burgess when he left). they rather have a 3rd round pick pick than an overpaid slow safety. whether he's a hometown hero isn't really relevant to them. I totally understand the move, even though it will hurt the locker room. |
Damnit. If he signs with the Eagles or any NFC East team were gonna be in trouble.
We'll send Smoot over to ask him how his hamstring (or knee, or pinky finger) is doing and Springs will ask to be held out of the game after he remembers the "pain" he had to experience. |

Looks like Springs is going to the Dark Side.

He may actually get a chance to retire with a ring - something that would never have happened here. |

LOL....I feel your pain bro. It's been so long it feels forever since we've been a competitive presence in the NFL. Just wait until this cap goes away...lord willing...we'll be kicking ass in no time. |

Re: Springs Released
Boy do I hate the Patriots. He probably signed for like a million bucks, too.
I thought Greg Lewis getting traded by Philly was interesting. I would expect them to bring in at least one of the bigger named receivers. |
Re: Springs Released
i want to see the numbers, but springs can still play, so he'll help them, even if it's not a full 16 games.
