Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

It's not the dollar number we need to be concerned with, it's the percentage-of-the-salary-cap number that matters. As long as it doesn't screw with our ability to build the rest of the team it will be fine, whether that # is 22 mil, 24 mil, etc.

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

I never really felt like he addressed what happened with the Giants game and didn't feel like it was important to him because he didn't really address it. It was on to HIS future and HIS contract. No real reflection of the Redskins team or season.
Oh, so your strategy is to wait for lightning to strike, which is what happened with Dak. Other than that, you have no discernible plan for the QB position other than to hope that fate takes a hand.

How long are you willing to wait to be a Super Bowl contender? Seriously, how long are you willing to wait?

In your opinion, are we dealing with a window of opportunity here before we lose players like Williams, Norman, and Kerrigan or not?

Are you aware that Kirk Cousins already holds numerous Redskins franchise records even though he has only been the starter for two seasons? Don't you think he can continue to improve?

In truth, the Redskins made the decision to pay more money for Kirk than they needed to by delaying their decision sign him to a long-term contract last season. They could have had a good deal for the next few seasons but they wanted more proof. NFL QB salaries go up significantly each and every season, so now they'll have to pay more if they still want him.

I think the Redskins need Kirk. I also think they know it but still, somehow, they think they're in the driver's seat in the negotiations with Kirk and his agent. Up to now, Kirk and his agent have been nice. I'll tell you how Kirk can get the long term deal he wants from some team. He just simply needs to inform the Redskins that if he cannot come to an agreement with them on a long term deal, then he will not sign a Franchise Tag agreement with them and he will instead sit out the 2017 season. Then we'll all find out Kirk's real NFL value.
My strategy is to set a certain amount you're willing to pay and then if Cousins isn't even close to that then moving on to other options. I don't think you just cut him a check for any amount he wants. I don't want the team to be held hostage by Cousins. There is no guarantee he will take us to the Super Bowl either. I don't fear having to draft/trade/sign another QB if we can use the extra money to add players at other positions while we figure out who is our best choice. With or without Kirk I don't see us winning it all next year. I think we're at least 2 years away. So that gives us 2 years to find a replacement if we can't agree to contract with Kirk.
We know that. So what's your verdict, sign him or cut him?
And folks on here wonder why I'm upset and post things a gigalion times. Here's my post, just a scroll up the page:

My solution's the best in my opinion- Dan Snyder, Bruce Allen and whoever currently has something against Cousins- need to check their ego and just pay the man to a long term deal.

It's what's best for the Redskins. And in the meantime, if you want you can actively pursue a replacement. Companies in other industries do this all the time. It's smart business.

This is the first time that I heard of negotiating off of salary cap percentage. My bet is Cousin's agent made that up.

I really do not think Kirk is the greedy d-bag that some think he is. Let's just see how this pans out before we decide what the truth is.
At the end of the day, I want our team to win. If that means me being wrong about Cousins and we do end up paying him a kings ransom and it works out, so be it. I don't envy SM on this decision.
That's the beauty of my solution- you cover yourself and are good at the most important position either way.

This beautiful solution that you keep alluding to ... what exactly is it?
Best I can tell you want to sign him to a long term deal. Ok. Than you want to go get a replacement in the meantime and trade Cousins if the replacement is a better option?
Break it down for me so I can figure out what makes your plan the best.

Let's face it - a majority of people are greedy. And not just the NFL. At this point, I don't fault him for this.

But as a Redskins fan first, I take offense to the way he's discussed his contract and seemingly openness to leaving. And the lack of positivity expressed for the Redskins team, including teammates and coaches, and also for the Redskins' future.

Signing KC to a long term deal, and than if it doesn't pan out find a replacement and trade Cousins?
How is this a beautiful solution? Lol. Replacements are hard to find. It just took us about 33 years.
What about the other holes we have to fill? Don't they come into the discussion? If it were as easy as you say it would have been done a year ago. It just is not that simple.

Lol. For my own sanity. Sorry. If he really has some solution to our problems that I just haven't honed in on I need to know.

We get that. Very much.
What makes your "solution" so brilliant? Thats all I was asking. Im done now. Sorry Chico. You were right and I was wrong. I swear to God.
